Good things come in small packages – I've been to Lucky's quite a few times, always for sushi.

The restaurant itself is a little small, especially considering the amount of business they do. I would recommend going with a smaller group, and it its just you or you and a date, sit at the bar.

The decor is nothing worth mentioning. Its not horrible or especially nice. There are lots of pictures of skydivers, which (since I am a skydiver) never fail to put a smile on my face since I know most of the people in the photographs in one way or another.

The service is friendly and usually very prompt, even when the place is busy. The sushi chef has been slammed almost every time I have visited, but he will still talk to patrons at the bar while he works. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu, and will make recommendations upon request that will not disappoint.

Having lived in Japan, Hawaii, and Oregon I have been blessed to have eaten some of the best sushi in the world, which makes me a little skeptical of the quality of raw fish in the desert. While Lucky's will not compare to the sushi I've had in these other places, it is still quite tasty.

The octopus and seaweed salads ARE some of the best I have ever had. They are fresh, perfectly seasoned, and include larger portions of octopus or seaweed. There's no sign of those teensy little salads you get at many of the sushi restaurants in Phoenix or Tucson, and my mouth is watering right now just thinking about them.

As I said, I am a skeptic of desert sushi so I've been a little careful about what I order, but my boyfriend (who is also picky) goes to TOWN at Lucky's. We are partial to the salmon (sake) nigiri, spicy tuna rolls, and the salmon roe (ikura). The unagi nigiri is a great way to finish your meal, it is sweet and has a wonderful texture. If you need more to round out your meal, order a hand roll-the sushi chef will make you a special one if you just ask him to surprise you.

Lucky's is one of two sushi restaurants in Casa Grande, and in my experience the service at the other one is terrible; consequently, this is a busy restaurant. I've never had to wait long for a table but sometimes the servers get a lottle bogged down, so be patient-they are competent and friendly, the last thing they need are grumpy or rude customers. While the food is excellent, forget about a quiet, relaxing environment in which to enjoy your meal unless you pick a wierd time to go.

I've never tried the cooked menu, so I have no input on that subject.

Lucky's has a liquor license, and they offer a full range of Asian beers (a must with a Chinese or Japanese meal) as well as a wide selection of sakes, and a guide to help you choose.

Go to Lucky's, its one of the best restaurants offering Asian cuisine in Casa Grande and it will leave you with a most pleasant food buzz.
