Mysterious and ancient, these ruins offer a unique perspective on the past. – In Short
Rising four stories above the desert floor, Casa Grande (meaning Big House in Spanish) remains a mystery 650 years after it was last inhabited. It existed when the prehistoric HoHoKam peoples ruled the area, building hundreds of miles of canals and setting up an elaborate trade route and system with Mesoamerica. It is part of a larger system of ruins, including one that has become a popular hiking attraction--Hole in the Rock at Papago Park.
