An Insult to call itself Italian food – No doubt popular, but , in all candor, the food is plain dismal. The pasta is over sauced, over cooked and limp. The bright spot, if any , was the service, which was top rate. Nick should send one , if not all ,of his chefs to Italy for some cooking lessons.
We found this restaurant by chance. – Excellent food, excellent house wine and good service. I really enjoy good Italian food and this is one of the three places we have found in the Scottsdale area which is worth going to.
Chicago Italian Meal in Phoenix – I read online that this place had pretty good Italian food. On approaching it from the car I wasn't impressed.
It looked like just another fast food sub-shop. Once inside I thought well ok, its clean and cozy. We started with the grilled calamari. It was cooked perfectly and came with a spicy red sauce. My wife had the shrimp over linguini. Delicious with a light red sauce and touch of garlic. As for myself, I went for the chicken parmesan. It came with a side of spagetti in a tasty red sauce. The chicken was tender and smothered in mozzarella cheese also with a tasty, slightly sweet red sauce. The meal and drinks are very reasonable.
Mama Mia!! This is a diamond in the rough!!
Don't believe their ads – Nick's "invites you to bring your own wine". Not so! I recently opened a $24.00 bottle of Chianti to bring to dinner. The waiter informed me that they now have a liquor license and most patrons are told to return the bottle to their car - even in Scottsdales 100+ temperatures. He made an exception in my case and allowed me to keep the bottle, unopened, on the table.
I ended up with a $5.00 glass of plonk.
A bit of Little Italy in Scottsdale! – I was recommended Nick's by a fellow dis-placed East Coast Italian. This is the only Italian restaurant he'll eat at out here so I figured it had to be the place to go...is it ever! I had the gnocci and I have to be honest, it was far superior to my favorite place in Little Italy. The pasta melted in my mouth and the sauce was sweet and tangy. The decor isn't fancy but the food will have you in heaven, so it doesn't matter!! We'll be back!!
i had recently went here on a date and i was not impressed at all. waiting for a good 20 minutes for drinks, sloppy food presentation, and a waitress who was unpleasant was very unnerving. just because this hole in the wall is located in "snobsdale" doesn't mean that they have to act like they are doing you a favor.
