beautifully snarky but inexpensive thai – Do you ever wish you could be Anthony Bourdain traveling the continents and experiencing the diverse offerings of some of the best of culturally diverse foods? It would be great to travel, but in today's economy is isn't exactly feasible. Even if you can't afford a trip to Thailand you can experience this exotic taste at the Erawan restaurant.

I grew up in a midwest, restaurant-owning family, therefore; I am extremely picky (I have worked as a commercial cook since I have been 13, I am now 29). However, I've been impressed by the food at this humble and friendly thai restaurant.

The restaurant is NOT a dump. It is cute, charming, and quaint. It is a small piece of the wonderful culture that the thai people possess. Honestly, who REALLY cares about a five-hundred thousand dollar atmosphere when the food tastes so great. The restaurant is clean, welcoming, and you experience the the country's character in this restaurant.

Forget about what you typically think about a curry (curry makes me think of flavors that are very sweet and flavors related to Indian food), thai curry is not what U.S. Americans (like me) think curry is like. The curry is savory with mouth watering hints of cilantro, thai chilies, and lemongrass. Everything I have tried has tasted outstanding and fresh.

Good food, but total dump – The place was a total dump. I totally would not eat there again (although I would do carry out). It is falling apart inside and pretty grungy and grimy looking. The place has been in business for 15 years and just needs a major overhaul from everything to the flooring to the chairs/tables, to the walls. I ordered the vegetarian rice noodles with broccoli made extra spicy. They accomodated my request to leave out any fish/oyster sauce b/c I'm a vegetarain. After they took our order, the waitress actually stopped back by the table to ask me if I wanted the egg left out too. I was totally impressed with that since I don't eat egg and didn't know that the dish had egg in it. So was very impressed that she thought to ask me about the egg. The rice noodles were not the thin, clear noodles I was expecting either. They were not clear and they were thick. I am guessing they make their own. My husband ordered the "meat with silver noodle", but omitted the noodles and he said it was outstanding. We ordered the pineapple fried rice for our 2 year old which was pineapple, shrimp, and chicken stir fried with rice. It was disappointing that for $9 there were only 2 pieces of shrimp. But my husband ate what our child did not and said that the taste of this dish was also outstanding. The food overall was very flavorful and probably "authentic" because it was not like any thai food we'd ever had. It was delicious. But I would opt for carry out next time. As apparently does everybody else since we were the only ones eating there. And since they have been in business for 15 years, we have to assume that their client base is take out. The food is good, but they give you no reason to want to eat it in the restaurant.

I can't believe it. – The food is wonderful and authentic; the servers are pleasant and prompt. A huge plus was they remembered me when I came back. On the down side though they charge for each soda refill, considering Im a starving student this made me decide to get take out from them from now on, instead of dining in.
