disappointing!! – waiter was terrible: didnot greet us, say thank you or goodbye. he was cold as a fish. the food was tasteless, bland and not worth the $60 for two people. this the worse restaurant i have been to. we were so disgusted and upset that this is the first time i have rated a restaurant. Plus did not have their famous Macadamia Hawaiian fish dinner.
1/2 price happy hour short necks mmmmmm – Steamed clams in white wine broth w homemade sour dough better than Naragansett Bay! Northwest varietal oysters as good as anywhere even in months w/o an r. Perfect mint juleps (but no silver cups)
HORRIBLE – Showed up an hour before closing for a bite fbefore we went home.. I had heard only good things so thought id try it out..
Walked in no hostess, waited 5 min then i walked into the bar and no bartender...Dirty dishes lingering on empty tables and no seats. Waited some more, finally when someone came out he was disturbed that we were there..Sat us and said to hurry and look at the menu that they were closing soon.(Rude) I had a couple questions and that irritated him more. Our food came out a long while later, cold and he never came back around to ask if we were ok or needed refills. If it wasn't so late I would have left and ate somewhere else! I will not reccomend or eat there again. Horrible expierence!!!
Kingfish disappointing – Kingfish is located along a busy street (Grant) and is a challenge to find. Once I located it - I was so disappointed. The hostess acted like I was disturbing her. - rather than sitting down for dinner, I decided to have a drink - the ambience it nice enough. I was really put off by the hostess and decided to leave rather than give this place my money.
Flavorless Seafood – The restaurant has a great atmosphere and a good wait staff. The problem is the food lacked flavor and any pizzaz. All of the seasoning was very cautious. The dishes were creative and cooked to perfection. We had a large party and passed the dishes because we did not believe that they were all so blan. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and this restaurant would be out of business in 6 months there. Do your self a favor, and get a glass of wine and a nice salad in the quaint bar.
An old smokey dining experience now non-smoking – This place reminded me of a classic insider fine dining place where the movers and shakers of the city would relax in big leather booths with bourbon drinks and big cigars after a hard day of work. The food was outstanding. Oyster appetizer was fresh and shucked by a pro. Believe me I was in the seafood biz for years and have shucked thousands of oysters.
We ordered off the specials of the day and my date had a Mahi dish grilled with a wonderful nut crust and excelent vegetables and rice pilaf. I had a smoked bison steak that was grilled to a perfect rare for my tastes. Great selection of professionally mixed drinks and cold draft imports. Can't wait to visit for their happy hour.
Late-night dining with superb seafood and New American specials.
– The Scene
The oyster bar boasts many devotees but the regular bar offers delights of its own, including an astonishingly large selection of wine by the glass. Late-night dining continues as long as customers order food, which means service after 11pm if there are enough patrons to keep the chef busy.
Fresh seafood hooks most diners at this trendy locale, but assorted American regional dishes also add splash. The menu evolves seasonally, but during the summer Kingfisher offers themed specials that highlight a different region every few weeks. Depending on the season, you might find salmon tostadas, pasta with grilled vegetables or buffalo prime rib. The pan-fried crab cakes with spicy Thai chili sauce are out of this world. And, of course, there are always raw oysters on the half-shell.
Are you KOOL enuf? – Kingfisher was advertised as one of the best late night dining experiences in Tucson. Not ever eating late in Tucson, I have no idea if that's true, but at 11 pm I hated this place. The food was mediocre and expensive, and the atmosphere was decidedly strange, sort of liza minelli meets grace slick in the twilight zone. I can see that if you were a favored regular (with plenty of cash and an ecstasy hit) it might be your scene, but next time I'm starving at 11 pm I'll order room service.
Heaven in Tucson – Who would think that of all the major cities in the US, I'd find the ONE resturant that sees the entire dining experience through the eyes of the customer? It's easier to say what the Kingfisher lacks rather than to list all it's positive attributes. IT LACKS NOTHING!!! From decor, to appetizers, the wine list, the everchanging menu, the chef's creativity, the knowledgeable wait staff, what an unbelievable experience!
Good show – Kingfisher is an experience all it's own. The interior is hard to describe. Colored, brightly, but still, manages to feel subdued. The food is spectacular, and they have a very impressive wine list, although all the wines are American. Our server was a little under par, but from the action around me I could tell the other servers had their acts together. I'll be going back, albeit after a paycheck.
