Truthful – Had what I was hoping to be a special birthday double birthday dinner last night. The service was terrible, the menu very limited, the cost way too much for what you received and the wine was priced way too high. I had indicated on my reservation that this was to be a birthday & requested some sort of cupcake or some sort of something. I also called & left 2 messages to confirm, no return calls. The locale is lovely, but I am very disappointed and probably will not return - sorry! Oh, by the way having been raised in San Francisco I do know good from substandard.
Excellent! – I love everything about this place, nuff said!
The staff were great but the food was disappointing.
We ate at The Grill at Hacienda Del Sol on a Saturday night during Restaurant Week. It was superb! The food, service and atmosphere were outstanding.
The food rivaled anything I have had in the best New York City restaurants. The portions were just right. The setting, even more beautiful than I remember it from my last visit.
Another stand out was the piano player. Oh, and I can't forget the unusual drink options.
Disappointing – This was my favorite restaurant. Menu selection was limited and overall quality has drastically declined. You can do much better at these prices.
Great food, drinks and customer service – The ambience, decor, and the grilled chicken was wonderful. I'm bringing my husband and kids here for his birthday! I thoroughly enjoyed dining here. :)
Average Food, Great Service – My husband and I were in Tucson for a conference which happened to overlap with our 5th Wedding Anniversary. I found The Grill on CitySearch, and because of the excellent reviews, made a reservation. The location is lovely, the atmosphere and decor beyond reproach. However, the food was only average. I ordered the foie gras appetizer, which was very thin and overcooked ($17). My husband ordered the scallops appetizer, which was essentially tasteless. The spinach salad was a little better. His arugula salad was really good. We both got the filet and substituted the sweet potato puree for the yukon gold puree. While it was good, it wasn't anything overwhelming. This restaurant is merely "good" as far as the food goes, but you're really just paying a lot of money for the atmosphere and the service.
Most Romantic Tucson Spot – Visitors to Tucson MUST findt his spot and reserve a table for around sunset. This former girls school offers a spectacular setting, impeccable service, and darn good food. If you miss sunset then relax outside at the grill where on cool nights there is a kiva fire and live music to keep you warm under the stars. The Dining romm is pricey but well worth it considering the service and ambience. Treat yourself and go!
Southwestern influences and stellar views make this hotel grill superb. – The Scene
Revived after a long period of inactivity, this restaurant, in one of Tucson's most charming guest ranches, has earned high marks from local connoisseurs. Dine on the patio and enjoy a view of the mountains, or sit in the wood-beamed, Western-accented dining room and enjoy a view of the chefs at work.
The owners declare that The Grill serves "Hacienda-style" cuisine, but this is assuredly not a Mexican restaurant. The kitchen's innovative concoctions are influenced by the Southwest, but the sophisticated fare will banish all thoughts of chuck wagons and coffee-in-a-sock. Dishes like the cioppino mingles fresh lobster, prawns and sea scallops in a tangy, chipotle-spiced broth. But, the hallmarks are the mesquite-grilled steak, veal, lamb and seafood. The budget-minded should note that the bar menu is lighter and cheaper, but no less superb.
our best evening in Tucson – Very nice experience overall. Our favorite restaurant in Tucson on our short vacation. Watched the sun set in the main dining room. Great food and service. Small problem with an annoying fly, and entrees were priced too high, but would definitely recommend it.
