Wishing they had some competition here in Denver – Because the service at Sheplers (both Denver locations) is so horrible, I have recently started purchasing my boots and other western wear online. It's hard to shop at and support a store whose employee's are so rude. I can't tell you how many times I have left Sheplers with a feeling of disgust. The last time I was in, I found a blouse on the sale rack that I sort of liked. There was probably 6 or 7 of them in various sizes on this rack. When I tried to purchase one it rang up at full price. I advised the box of rocks behind the counter that it was on the sale rack (along with many others in varying sizes) and she replied that if it were on sale the price would have come up. That was it, no "let me go check," or anything. She just stared at me. The same day, in the boot department, I asked a sales person if she could check the other location for a specific boot/size. Her reply was "I am trying to do boot markdowns and I keep getting interrupted." I ignored that and asked if she was marking down any of the six styles that were lieing on the floor in front of me, to which she replied, without even looking at them "No, " none of those will be marked down. Keep in mind that the email I received regarding the sale said "ALL" boots are on sale. I think they meant all boots are FOR sale. Next, I meet up with my husband in the men's boot department. He somehow found the only friendly boot salesman in the whole store. While they were discussing my husband's boot choice, the same saleswoman from the women's boot department walked by and loudly said to him "I'm trying to do boot markdowns but I keep getting interrupted." I guess she thought it appropriate to follow me around the store and announce that I (god forbid) asked for some assistance in her department.

With that said, I have had ONE positive Sheplers experience and that was while purchasing/fitting a hat for my husband from Wayne in the hat department. He was so nice, knowledgeable, and willing to help that I couldn't help but feel sorry for him that he is forced to work for such a crappy company with such crappy people. One wonders how he endures it.

Ladies, for boots go online to Zappos, they will ship the boots for free (usually 2 day shipping) and you have 365 days (without wearing of course) to return them using Zappos' free return shipping. Also, High Country Western Wear has a friendly staff who actually want to earn their paycheck by being polite to their customers. I would even suggest driving to Colorado Springs to visit the Boot Barn if all else fails.

One of the few Western wear places. – True to a point. My wife has worked for this location for about three years. She has busted her butt for the company & customers. I see the customers & they are always happy when she has helped them. Do not get me wrong I do agree with you that most of the employees just stand around, don't want to help or care if they get a bad complaint. The managers usually complain about who gives their all, saying that the customers are just a number, not the boss.Honestly, I believe, just as my wife has done for so many years. Customers are the boss, with out customers who make purchases, then no one gets paid. Sheplers could do better by discipling the employees that don't work, & reward the ones who do. Honestly, my wife got one complaint, just because a manager was to busy to doing whatever, when my wife asked for a code so she could do a deposit. Now my wife is the only one doing maintenance, (Janitorial) duties, instead of being on the floor to help customers. Several customers ask where my wife is, so the may get her help, & advise. They were told by different employees that she has either quit, got fired, or is no longer on the floor because she gets bad complaints all the time. My wife is currently looking for another job, but still enjoys working for Sheplers, as long as it is on the floor or cashiering, so she may continuing the happy environment for the customers. Why & how can General, & First assistant managers treat one employee like they are the bad kid, who does their job, pleases customers, tries to make the company money & look good. Yet treat the other who sit on the butt, rude or bad mood towards customers, like they are gods?! FOR THE MOST PART SHEPLERS IS A GOOD PLACE. But, only if the right employees are allowed to work with the customers, and not do what others should be doing.

meanest people EVER! – Finding a button up shirt can be tricky if your a man. Especially if you don't understand what the measurements mean. I couldn't find anyone to ask for over an hour. Finally a girl came and asked if we needed help very shortly and rather annoyed sounding.

the conversation sounded like this:

'*sigh* can i help you?'

'yeah um, what does 15x33 mea...' (interrupted)

'SMALL!'

'um.. is 15 the ne...'

'NEcK SIZE!'

'oh, and so 33 is th...'

'THE InNSEAM!'

'oh okay, thank you'

'....'

seriously?? why ask if i need help if you're just goinng to interrupt me and act like im bothering you..

so i figured out my size, and found a couple shirts and headed for the counter, where i caught even MORE bad vibes from the sales clerk..

look, just because im not a cowboy, doesnt mean im not a nice person, and it certainly doesn't mean you can treat me like a criminal. I spent 160$ and in all honesty I'll never go back now that i know my size. Ill just order it from now on, because i am LITTERALLY affraid of being treated that way again.. also, they dont have ANYTHING for women unless you have poor taste, so id avoid it if you think you're going to find a cute cowgirl shirt, or unless your big enough to fit into a man's shirt.
