I've tried about half a dozen different entrees so far and everyone is excellent. I love the different dining rooms, cozy, romantic or festive... The place packs out for happy hour too.
Las Brisas is under new ownership as of June 2011 – Dear Guests,-- My name is Matteo, one of the new owners and general manager of the popular Las Brisas restaurant. I understand That Las Brisas had great deals of turmoils and ups and downs since it was first sold after 911. Unfortunately poor management and neglect took a big toll one the once most popular Latin Brand in Denver. However my partners and I are earnestly trying to make all the improvements to the restaurant in every aspect possible while maintaining the same style that personifies Las Brisas Restaurant.
The venue has been completely remodeled. I sincerely hope to see you back to check out the changes and how is now properly operated. Las Brisas is one of the few independent restaurant left. I promise you I will do my best to service you with excellence and quality to keep this great brand alive in spite corporate chains competition and all the adversities that we as a nation are facing in today's trembling economy. I am at your service! ask for Matteo
Where Is That Waiter? – We were very excited when our friends suggested we go to Las Brisas. We had been there years before, and thought it was marvelous. Not this time. First, there didn't seem to be anyone formally greeting/seating people. Then they sat us out on an enclosed patio. They had heaters (it is a November evening), but kept fooling with the thermostat, so that it alternated between roasting and too cool to be comfortable. Our waiter was the real prize, though. It took at least 10 minutes to come to us, then 20 minutes to serve us a pitcher of margaritas we ordered. Then at least another 20 minutes to take our food order, at which time my girlfriend ordered a beer (because the pitcher was fairly small and only a half glass left after 4 of us got a glass). The beer never came, and we never saw the waiter again to ask about it. After the food came, we only saw him at check time.
The bus boy was very attentive, however. He kept us served with chips and salsa (which is chipolte-based, and not particularly hot; tasty, but not sensational), and water/ice tea. However, he kept pouring from the side of the pitcher, and spilling on the table.
Then they have the adacity to add 18% to the bill. We just wanted to get out of there, so we left it, but left on my own, the waiter deserved maybe 5%, 10 tops.
As for the food itself, the green chile was very good, relying maybe too much on black pepper. The fish taco was less good than others, but acceptable, the seafood relleno was also acceptable, but not inspiring; the rice and black beans were pedestrian. The rest of our group voiced similar "acceptable" opinions about their food.
What happened? – We have enjoyed Las Brisas for many years. I don't know what happened, but after not going for quite awhile, last night's visit was a huge disappointment. The only good part was the table side guacamole. The fish tacos were absolutely awful...no flavor. Dry mahi on a dry tortilla with a bit of salad. Dull beans and rice. No sauce for taco...I can make them better at home. Husband ordered comination plate...said it was the worst mexican food he has ever eaten. We made it through half our meals and had enough. Didn't even box up the leftovers...paid $80 for one of the worst meals ever. So disappointed that the food has gone so far downhill. The renovations were great, but what happened to the food?
Dear Loribelle,I Have aggressively worked on the kitchen as well and the food quality. Keeping the Las Brisas Classics but also introduced many new items.Furthermore our fish such as Mahi Mahi and the salmon are now bought fresh every three days. Our fish tacos are now served with fresh Mahi Mahi. I would rather make less profit but sell in volume and stand out the ordinary!! Checkout Thanks for another chance,Matteo Mazzullo Co-owner GM

They do not serve non white – I went to Las Brisas on Wed 05/12/2009. I sat at the bar for 30 mins the bartender refused to serve me. When my 2 white friends showed up, the bartender served them but still refused to serve me. The bartender and should be fired.
Best margaritas in town – Las Brisas has the best margaritas in town and they are very potent. 2 are plenty for just about anybody. If they cost more than other places (I'm not sure of that) it's probably because they actually have alcohol in them. I love the Blue Bonnet but you can drink their margaritas all night long and never know you had a drink! If you go on a weeknight, the bar is often packed by 5:30. The food is good and there is an interesting variety of dishes on the menu. Service has always been good for us in the bar and dining room, but once when we were seated on the enclosed patio early in the evening, service was slow. Tip: you can buy Las Brisas margaritas already mixed at some liquor stores in Denver.
Bad service on more than one occasion – We will never go back to Las Brisas again! My husband ordered the Verde and the black beans and rice were both very dry. My meal was decent; however, the service was so horrible that it's not worth it to eat there again. We have been there twice - the first time was a year and a half ago - it was around 4:30 or 5:00 PM (happy hour time although they do not offer one) and we just wanted Margarita's and appetizers. It was a Saturday and the restaurant was dead! Well our waiter had such a bad attitude because we were not ordering meals! We ordered the table side guacamole and he had a bad attitude about making it (mind you the place was dead)... Another friend showed up and she wanted to order a drink and he never took her order so she sat there for a half hour talking to us without a beverage! Now if you read the other review you will know that their Margaritas are not cheap; his tip would have been 20% if he would have provided professional and attentive service. We decided to give Las Brisas another try and had the same waiter! It took him forever to acknowledge us and take our order and then we had to ask the hostess for our bill when it came time to leave! You may be thinking that it's us but we are reserved and polite people and we receive good service everywhere else we go. We prefer Los Dos Portillos on the South end of town.
not your typical mexican restaurant; high alcohol prices – The menu has some interesting dishes. The food was very good, service nice the the price for a pitcher of margarita's was outragous. It was Friday Happy Hour and no special pricing. Out of a pitcher which cost over $20 we barely got 4 drinks. We defintely won't be back. I would much rather give my business to nearby La Fagota.
