Good for both lunch and happy hour – I have been to Charlie Brown's both for lunch and happy hour with co-workers. The food is good, although service can be slow at lunch. Never had an attitude problem with the staff. Happy hour is two-fers for your first round and there is almost always free food. We just went last Friday for happy hour and they were roasting a pig on the patio (it was delicious and free!) and the place was packed. The ambience is a little rundown, but comfortable. I will return.
Place is a throwback piano bar, grill, neighborhood haunt in an old classic of what used to be a sort of beat hotel. The food is decent and pretty basic bar and grill style stuff. Seems a bit like an old smokey lounge in Chicago or New York.
Favorite Hangout – I am a Charlie Browns lover. It is my favorite place in Denver to go and chill after work, grab dinner on a Friday night, or have Sunday breakfast (Mexican skillet is the best!) I like all the staff, food, drinks, ambiance, everything. The happy hour with free snacks on Friday is a nice bonus as well. If you want a spot to hang out and just kick back this is the place.
Avoid at all costs – I moved to the neighborhood about 2 months ago and have been to Charlie Browns on several occasions. While the place is clean, the staff needs an attitude adjustment. I agree with the previous poster about that brunette bimbo. She is nothing short of rude and nasty. The place is clean, I will give it that and the food is absolutely horrible. I would not recommend this place at all.
Mixed opinions – I went to Charlie Brown's last night for my birthday, after a friend of mine had suggested we go. Neither one of us had been here before. I reviewed the City Search reviews before going, and taking the poorer reviews with a grain of salt, we decided to still go. The manager and the bartender were both very nice. The happy hour specials were great (2 for 1), and they treat their b-day guests really well. The one thing I didn't like, was our waitress. She gave us good service, but had an attitude the whole time. One of my friends and I tried joking around with her to get her to lighten up, as everyone can have a bad day, but it didn't help. She seemed quite put out by us. On a separate note, the jalape?o poppers were excellent! I'm usually not the biggest fan, but they were very good. They used a red jalape?o pepper, and the cream cheese had a little something in the flavor that I couldn't peg. When you ask for fajita chicken nachos, they actually give you a very generous portion of chicken. The whole restaurant seems kind of old, dark and dreary, but at the same time still has some character that you get with older architecture. Because of the attitude, I wouldn't be too inclined to go back. Had the attitude of our waitress been good, I would have rated Charlie Brown's better.
Avoid the afternoon Bartender – Friends I work with highly recommended Charlie Brown's as a great after work place. It should stay that way as long as you work swings. I went in a couple weeks ago when I moved into the neighborhood. It was about 3:30 in the afternoon. The skinny almost anorexic brunette bimbo who waited on me needed a serious attitude adjustment and a lesson in customer service. I sat at the bar almost 5 minutes before even being acknowledged. There were only three other customers in the restaurant at the time. Hoping to get a bite to eat I never got to see a menu until after I finished my beer. After asking twice for a menu she was seriously annoyed to have to tear herself away from some 25 year old she was fawning all over. I looked over the menu while sipping on a second beer ( I was suprised she was able to serve) I waited and waited and finally finished my beer. She came over and in a sarcastic tone asked me, "Well do ya want something?". I stated obviously not I certainly wasn't going to put her out by ordering. I left never will I return and I have let my friends know of my experience. If they return I hope they do only at night.
Great Service, Great Specials, Great Food – I hate to be a hypeman but you have to give credit where credit is due. Going to Charlie Browns is always refreshing (literally). The menu has variety, and so far everything I have tried has me coming back for more(My fav's Souvlaki, and the Prime Rib). The drink specials are on par, and the atmosphere is inviting.
Can't wait for the free pig roast in the summer.
This "Cheers"-like piano bar feels like your neighborhood joint. – In Short
Salt-of-the-earth folks come here, courtesy of the neighborhood ambience. From the outside, the bar is known by it's deco neon sign, but the bar's most notable fixture inside is Paulie, an elderly, nearly blind pianist who sings or accompanies performers. The extensive menu ranges from burritos to lobster tails, and the bar rings up each sale on a '50s-era cash register. On summer nights, the patio becomes a popular hang out.
Wow, this place is terrible!! – The management is absolutely terrible. The little low-class manager actually threw a knife at my back while I was in the bathroom. I think that pretty much says it all. I had to file a police report to complain. The food is not good at all and the drink specials only include well drinks. There are plenty of great bars in Denver avoid this one at all costs!
Awesome! – This bar is the place to go!! It has a great atmosphere and great service! Their food is awesome and their drinks are great! they have good happy hours and a great patio!
