Don't even think about going here – This dump is the worst restaurant I've been in. The food was despicable. The server was inattentive and rude. I will NEVER be going back here!
Never, never, never go here – Everything was wrong here. I haven't had such a horrible diner experience in years. And I've been here in the past. But man, was this incredibly grotesque. Horrible food was matched with horrible service for a total score of F-. I had to sanitize my hands after I left that dump. All I can say is DON'T GO THERE!
Guess I got what I deserved for eating at a restaurant on Colfax... ick!
This place is really scary – Woah, talk about nasty! I can't believe this place is in business. Grime everywhere, dirty tables, poor service, and even worse food. I haven't eaten fast food for years, but this place made McDonalds sound spectacular. Words can't explain my disgust. Horrendous. Simply horrendous.
Pete's Kitchen is disgusting! – Just ate there today, and it will definitely be the last time. The green chili on the breakfast burrito tasted like someone sneezed in my mouth. It was a thick, slimy mess. The hashbrowns in the burrito were burned. We got a side of corned beef hash, which was no better. It tasted like ground up Spam mixed with mushy potatos, and it looked so foul sitting on the plate in a puddle of grease. Even my glass of orange juice was gross. Whoever made the orange juice didn't do a good job of mixing the concentrate, so again, another slimy mess in my mouth. And to top it all off, the drinking water SMELLED LIKE SEWAGE. Never have I left a restaurant so disgusted. I almost vomited in the parking lot on my way out. And the restaurant is completely filthy, I really hope I don't get a disease from eating there. Prisoners in jail eat better than that.
A good greasy spoon with spotty service – I've been in Denver for well over 15 years and you can always rely on Pete's for (1) cheap food and (2) a very lively clientele.
That being said...it's impossible to look past the exceptionally rude waitstaff. I stopped in one night to place a 'to go' order and you would think that I was asking the waitress for her first-born child. If I wasn't famished I would have turned around and walked out (which I should have done) but I toughed it out and waited 20 minutes for....a bowl of green chili!! All they had to do was scoop out a cup of soup and wrap 2 tortillas and it took 20 minutes!
Needless to say, the food is acceptable but the poor service is not. I'm definitely heading to The Breakfast King on Mississippi and Santa Fe the next time a late night craving hits...much better service and less attitude.
Rude Management – I ate at Pete's Kitchen the first few times with no problem receiving good service and great food. I went by myself to Pete's a few weeks ago expecting the same great service. However on this particular night that I entered Pete's waiting to be seated, I was told by the extremely rude Cashier (I learned later she was the Manager) to just get on a stool as there were no booths available for single people. How horribly rude as I am a paying customer and an older lady with a back problem. So, I told her that sitting on a stool is out of the question. A young waitress then proceeded to give me a "mini lecture" that at night single people have to sit on the stools. Eventually, I was seated at the little table next to the window that was so uncomfortable. The rude manager seemed to take pride in her rude behavior. I mentioned to the waitress that it is unprofessional and rude to discriminate. Since I believe in giving second chances, I returned about 2 weeks later by myself right before 10p one night. This time there was a different cashier manager that was so polite and nice telling me I could sit anywhere I choose. This time the waitress was rude as she proceeded to give me a stern lecture while I was sitting in my booth scanning the menu (It was not crowded that night) humiliating me. The waitress then went back to the manager and made a point of making the manager realize that I should not sit in a booth since I am by myself. After this waitress had a 5 minute discussion with the manager she returned and gave me lecture telling me she would allow me a booth this time. She said in the future I cannot have a booth if I eat at Pete's after 10p by myself. To make matters worse, I ordered a well done steak breakfast and received a very rare steak that was eventually corrected although it was full of fat. The food was not that good as well. I always spent over $10 and left a good tip. As long as I am alive, I will NEVER RETURN TO PETE'S KITCHEN. This management staff should be ashamed of their behavior. Just remember, "what goes around comes around." Mistreating people does not go unnoticed by God. I am just a nice lady who wanted a good meal in a comfortable environment with nice waitstaff/management.
Garbage – This place is good for one thing. Serving greasy garbage to drunks.
Just to let you know – I eat at this restaurant at least 3 times a week and am well known at the place. But this evening i went to get a to go order and there was man by the name of David that was rather rude so i walked out and went and gave my lil 20 dollars to the denver diner. Now that is not alot of money but 7 other people walked out with me when they observed the rudeness.. That is probably 150 dollars that Petes Kitchen didnt get.
Diner fare, local flair – I enjoy old-fashioned diners on occasion- you know what you're getting- greasy, filling and basically cheap food. At a Greek diner, you also get gyros and Greek salads, which is a nice bonus. But don't kid yourself- the management and staff are just hardworking, tough people who put up with a lot from the drunks and pseudo-hipsters who crawl in at all hours. Yes, I have also seen the cook handle all types of food without washing his hands or sanitizing anything. That's why you shouldn't eat there too often. But Denver doesn't offer a lot of late-night dining options, so I guess we're stuck with this. Pete's got a good thing going and I doubt he's going to change his ways. He's not a nice person and he's very cheap, so...good luck getting him to care about hygiene!
Filthy. Yes, filthy – Having been a resident of the area for the past two years I have frequented Pete's kitchen numerous times.
No time has been memorable. Just greasy, filling food after a night out.
However, and terribly, after going there on a whim tonight I will never be back. I sat at the bar and witnessed the cook make my "steak" sandwich. Of course you cannot cook to order here. I asked for medium well, but the end product was crisp as molten lava.
This is a side note though. There is an utter lack of hygiene. There was a Greek salad and two club sandwiches made after the cook handled my steak and after he put a burger patty together for another person.
No handwashing in between. Raw meat to veggies. Raw meat to bread. I will never be back and was thoroughly revolted from seeing this.
Don't give them business. Seriously. The guy grabbed a steak then made a salad. He then grabbed raw hamburger meat and made two club sandwiches. Makes me sick to think about it.
