Only place to buy running shoes in Denver – I have shopped in the Denver for three years, and I will only buy my running shoes from Runners Roost. Almost everyone in the store is a runner and they have bent over backwards to make sure that I get the running shoes that are correct for me, because they know how important it is have the correct shoes for me not someone else. If I have had a problem with my running shoes, they have always corrected the issue on the spot. John Shultz, Runners Roost owner, has a top notch sales crew across with tons of sales and running experience in all the four stores.
Runners Roost also has the best club run around on Wednesday nights at 6PM. With between 50 and 100 runners on a typical Wednesday night, there is usually someone to run with on their 3 to 10 mile routes. After the run, there is an awesome social with water, gatorade, beer, wine, cheese, crackers, chip and dip.
Also Received Wrong Shoes – I'm posting in response to the other user's experience, since I was also sold the wrong pair of shoes. In my case, the salesperson recommended (and rightly so, as it turned out) that I go up a size but then he brought the wrong pair to the counter. I didn't notice either, and so ended up running in the wrong shoes. I didn't try to return them because I didn't want to go back -- my experience there wasn't great, even without ending up with the wrong shoes. I found the staff there to be very snobbish -- a woman who was working with another customer (seemed like maybe she was the owner?) chided me for looking in the mirror when I tried on a pair of shoes. It was embarassing and totally unnecessary.
Much better place to shop is Road Runner Sports in Westminster. The staff there are very friendly and helpful, and I've never had any problems.
Horrible Return Policy – I want to share the experiences I have had at 2 local running shops this month with all of you:
I went into a Runner's Roost a few weeks ago looking for help with running shoes, bought the $95 shoes they recommended, and now my feet are killing me. I went back in and they told me that they put me in the wrong shoes.
Well, their return policy is that you can only return the shoes if you don't run outside in them. These felt fine when I ran in them inside several times, but after doing one long run (I only went running outside in the shoes 3 times and had them for 2 weeks), my feet were killing me. They told me that they would give me 40% off another pair of shoes (without crediting me for the first shoes), but I didn't think it was fair that they wanted me to pay to get more shoes when they admitted that they gave me the wrong shoes in the first place. IMO, they should have credited me the value of the old shoes toward a new pair.
I was so angry that I decided I would rather pay full price for a new pair in another store than give Runner's Roost another cent of my money. I went to the another store and told them what happened at the Runner's Roost. The salesman at the new store immediately got the owner help me. He had me try on 6 pairs of shoes, watched me run in the pairs that felt good, and then proceeded to take back the shoes that Runner's Roost sold me! I only had to pay a $28 difference. I will never shop at Runner's Roost again.
