HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BILLING PRACTICES! – My cat, who had a previous renal condition and heart murmur, needed to be seen immediately when he became motionless and kept vomiting. We took him to this hospital and the vet, preying on our emotions I now realize, suggested a bunch of unnecessary tests that, in our emotional state, we went along with believing and trusting the advice. Well $450 later, they recommended yet another treatment that would put the bill well over $1000. My cat was nearly 20 years old and already had documented illnesses. We decided it was time to put him down - and we did. We asked to go on a payment plan because this was unexpected and we were very strapped. They said they normally didn't do this, but would work with us and let us do it. As I went to make the second payment, I found out that had been charging us late fees and finance charges - with no warning or discussion. You don't say you're going to let us do a payment plan then charge us behind our backs for late fees and finance charges. The only reason I caught it was because the balance was higher than I remembered. This place is horrible, uncaring and practicing deceptive billing methods. DO NOT USE THIS HOSPITAL or any VCA vet/facility. Your money is better spent elsewhere. Ask for a detailed estimate sheet and don't let vets push you into making decisions. You'll be sorry. This hospital also has unprofessional billing staff and the customer service is lacking. Save yourself the drama, heartache and money!
Extremely caring and capable staff and nice, clean facility – Our vet recommended that we take our puppy to Alameda East when he became very sick. His symptoms were unusual so it took some time to figure out what was sending him into kidney failure. All of the doctors that we have dealt with (Dr. Raj, Dr. Rah and Dr. Israel) have been amazing...very caring, thorough, knowledgeable. They always called with test results when expected and once we could take him home, they called periodically to check in on him. We truly felt like Zeke was in the best hands.
The facility is immaculate...my husband jokes that Alameda East is nicer than any human hospital we've ever been to. Also, they are open 24 hours and have top-notch vets available all day long which is very comforting when your pet has to stay overnight or is sick in the middle of the night.
Of course, with the best care comes a hefty price tag. In my experience, all vet care is expensive but I do think that Alameda East charges a premium for their services. I thought about taking away 1 star for this, but we felt as though the level of care was worth the price.
I would highly recommend Alameda East (with an asterisk on price) and personally, won't take my animals anywhere else for emergency care.
VCA EMERGENCY WAS A LIFE-SAVER – Unexpectedly, at 11pm Friday night we had a very sick dog. In fact, by his shivering , we thought he was dying. Our regular vet was closed. We went to VCA emergency . The receptionist was efficient, followed by friendly technicians, followed by Dr. Carbone who, of course, confirmed that the dog was indeed extremely sick and asked permission to do stool, urine and other samples. By 12:30 am, the dog had been analyzed for a severe stomach infection and a possible urinary problem. He had received intravenous fluid replacement and antibiotics AND had started to recover. Today, 3 days later he has just about fully recovered, though he will be on antibiotics for 4 more days. Dr.Carbone & VCA did a fantastic job.
bad experience – I have a 4 month old puppy who has been going to Alameda East, and the service I received was decent until this week, when I called for help because my puppy had eaten chocolate. The man who answered the phone told me that there was nobody there who could help me because they were all in a meeting and that maybe I should call another veterinary clinic. I was not anywhere where I could look up other vets, and had to resort to calling my dog trainer, who was much more helpful than Alameda East. I'm going to start taking my puppy somewhere else that will be willing to help me.
Misled by all the hype – I took my dog to the ER when I noticed what appeared to be a laceration on his foot. I was very disappointed in the service I received. My dog saw two different doctors, one of whom answered inquiries with "I don't know." They recommended my aging dog undergo surgery, and responded, "I don't know" to my inquiries.... In addition they are expensive. Unfortunately, not all pet owners are independently wealthy. Requiring additional information before one commits to a procedure (something beyond I don't know is a bit more comforting and reassuring) and asking about costs, and also hoping to minimize costs while ensuring your companion is treated appropriately (I don't know doesn't make one feel confident in expensive procedures) does not demonstrate a lack of love for your pet. In fact, just the opposite. Overall, I found the place to be rather cold and uninformative. My experience was similar to auto shopping or an oil change.
slow customer service, expensive service, great doctors – Customer services are worst, they don't even know how to make an appointment. Great doctors, but too expensive and depending on all expensive equipments. After paying $3000 for CT, X-rays, MRI... they could not find any causes for my pet's symptom. When I call a main line, seems like only thing they know is to transfer lines to someone's voice message. They cannot even locate a medical record. They are also so----slow.
Great Swimming – Alameda East has a great team and the best dog swimming anywhere, and believe me, I've checked them all out! I am what you might call a very thorough investigator when it comes to my pointers and this place is the ONLY place to take your dogs to swim. So many people warned me about other places close by that basically know nothing about dogs and swimming them and no safety concerns at all, just throw a bunch of dogs in a pool and see what happens...this is not at all how Alameda East operates and I feel safe and confident that they are in good hands.
For the most part, I really like Alameda East. They have some of the best vets around and are very well trained in cutting edge care. They are always pleasant when you come in and there is never too much of a wait.
The problem I have is the fact that even if you are a loyal longtime customer, they still will make you come in for "emergency" instead of just fitting you in if you need to come in quickly. The emergency cost is $100 just for walking in the door. That is excessive and unfair to those of us who have been going for years.
I will continue to go there for serious issues, however, if I need a quick vaccine or check I am going to go somewhere more reasonable.
The ONLY safe place to swim in the area – Thank god I found Alameda East! My dog needs therapy swimming for a disc problem and they have changed her life. She can now go for short walks and she likes to play again. Before I found Alameda east Bella tried other places that advertise swimming and it was a scary disappointment. Alameda East is the only place with TRAINED staff in swimming and unlike the other place, the pool is clean. Our pets are our children and I am so happy I found a place that sees it that way.
Always the best experience – I am a huge fan of Alameda East. The vets are so good and caring and really take the time to thoroughly check out everything with your pets to make sure nothing is overlooked. I have been seeing Dr. Fitzgerald now for over a year and he has been wonderful and the kids actually look forward to going. How many times can you say that about a vet visit?
They also have amazing water therapy. It is very unadvisable to take your dogs swimming anywhere that isn't trained the way they are at alameda east. I have heard places like this exist, so be careful. Their pool in built in, the way a pool should be. it's amazingly clean and the people know how to make sure they are safe. This is important to me!
They also do boarding and daycare, which I often take advantage of. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but I always feel safe knowing my dogs are in good hands there. and to me, that's worth everything.
