Shame on you!!!
I brought my car for an allignment. They told me before they could allign my car the inner and outer tie rod needed to be replaced. They said they were pretty bad and it needed to be done. They gave me a price estimate of over $400. I was hesitant because I really couldn't afford such a repair. Then he told me he could give it cheaper to me. He would only charge one and a half hour instead of two. So he came down to $363. This was still a lot of moeny what I had not expected. I told them that I like to wait and let my mechanic do the work because I knew it would be cheaper. I live in Utah so it was a long drive home but I wanted to take the risk. So I brought my car to my mechanic and he couldn't find anything wrong. I still needed to get my car alligned which my mechanic couldn't do, so I went to Big O Tires in my next town. I didn't tell them what the people in Boulder,CO said. I was wondering if they would find anything wrong. They allligned my tires and everything was fine. I asked them specifically about the tie rods, but they said that they were fine. I called the manager at their store and he appologizded and said that this is not their way of working. He told me whenever I am in town I could come and get my tie rods checked and if they are fine, they will refund my allignment. Later I went on line just to check to see what kind of reviews this place had and I saw people had similar experiences like me. So I know I will never put my foot in this shop. They are only thinking of money and are taking advantage with women. Stay away from this shop!!!!
In a pinch – I get my oil here on occasion. They give me full diagnostics with price estimates, and treat me like I'm retarded, but they can change oil.
I always take my car to a more specialized mechanic for actual repairs, but it's never been in worse condition after I've brought it there.
Sometimes I'm definitely treated worse than others, one time they broke one of my truck keys, and in the middle of moving (didn't have time to leave it at the shop for repairs), to accentuate how badly I needed repairs, one mechanic asked me "how much do you like your truck?" Which was a little cheesy and dramatic.
Bad service, bad mechanics -- avoid! – 2nd bad experience in two weeks. My friend took his car in to get a wheel bearing replaced. They talked him into replacing struts. The car was fine, didn't need anything besides a new wheel bearing. They charged him $800 extra for crap he didn't need.
I took my car in for an alignment. Screw ups:
1. They ignored the alignment settings I asked for.
2. They used the alignment settings from a different year of car than what I have.
They also told me that a $250 part is required to setup negative camber on the front of my car. Funny, because I took it to another shop that did it for no extra cost.
This shop only cares about making money, doesn't give a crap about the people. From now on I'll go to Tire Source, better prices and much friendlier.
Great service – I went to Big O to get new tires and an oil change, I happened to come to there buy 3 get 1 free sale which turned out to be a great deal and I spent $200 less then I was planning to. Everyone at the front was courteous and answered all of my questions that I had, they took the time to walk around the store with me and help me find what I needed. Dan at the front was very friendly and even cut me a deal for being a C.U. student. Highly recommended!!
Worst Shop Ever – I originally went to Big O after finding that they had the cheapest tire that fits my SUV in the area. Upon trying to buy the tire, they tried to upsell me to a SUV tire ranging in the price range of well over $175 each (over the $50 tire) claiming that my SUV couldn't run well on passenger car tires. After explaining to them that A.) I have passenger car tires on my car, and B.) I have worked in an auto body / repair shop owned by a family member since I was 5 until I went to college, and I know what I want for a tire, they finally sold me two.
After that, for a while, my car started to shake pretty badly when I hit a certain speed on the highway. I figured that since I got new tires that it couldn't be them being off balanced, so I just waited until I had enough money to replace ball joints / U joints and brought it to my favorite place in Boulder to get repaired. I was told that everything was tight and the guy drove it on the high way and said it was the tires being off balance.
I bring my car back in to get the tires re-balanced. During this, I get a phone call to flush out every single fluid system in my car. I explain to the guy I just want the work I asked for.
When I arrive my car is up on the lift and they bring me under to have a look at my ball joints. They mention them being rusty and that they need to be replaced. After listening to them talk for a while I ask if they are loose. They answer no. I then ask why I would replace them. They said because since they are rusty they will go sooner or later. All the while the guy behind the desk, brandon, was standing there with a giant grin on his face. I was thinking to my self "My head gasket will probably go eventually, should you replace that now too?" Long story short, I told them to take my car down and I'll replace the ball joints when I feel my steering wheel start to shake on the high way. On the way out I asked if they could tell me how much weight they needed to put on my tires and brandon said that the off balance of the tires would not enough to be the reason the car was shaking at high speeds. He said that the off balance of would be noticeable maybe in the steering wheel. I then said that the major off balance was in the rear, which would result in shaking in the back, not the wheel. He agreed, even though it's the opposite of what he just said.
This place is terrible. Every time I go in there they try to upsell everything. When I bought my tires originally. I college girl was in there for a flat tire when I got my tires. She wanted 1 tire. They sold her 4 50,000 mile tires for a early 90's honda because there was a "buy 3 get 1 free" special and then told her she needed new break pads without showing her the pads themselves. A flat went all the way up to $800 for that girl. It was disgusting.
Hate this place, never again.
Helped my C.U. student – I had to get tires for my daughter who is going to C.U. I live in California and did not know what to do. I called Big O tires in Boulder and talked to Dan. He worked out a great price over the phone and set up an appointment so she could get the work done the same afternoon. Not only was he really friendly, but he also gave me a discount because my daugher is a C.U. student. I really appreciated the great service and now I have a honest place to send my daughter too for all her car needs.
Great deal on brakes – The guys at Big O in Boulder are great, I have been going there for years. I went in for brakes, they gave me a great deal and were really friendly. They inspected my whole car for free and they gave me a ride to work. I can not believe how great the customer service was, it is hard to find that level of customer service now a days. I am going to take my car back next week for struts...
Awesome service – I took my car to Big O tires in Boulder because I had a flat tire. I had not bought anything there before and they fixed my tire for FREE. They also inspected my car as well. I need to have my brakes done so I scheduled an appointment and I went back the following week and had my front brakes replaced. The price wes great and they did a great job. They even gave me a ride back to work. I am a woman and they treated me with respect and explained everything to me. They were super nice and I will tell all my friends
Rude, rude and rude – I should have listened to these reviews before taking my care here. But it wass really convenient because I work within walking distance.
After spending over $500 there I took my car back because they needed to balance the tires that they forgot to do. They were soooo rude. The guy threw my keys at me and had parked my car in a handicap spot. I couldn't believe it. I will never go back again!
Can I Give Negative Stars? – It started out with my request to replace shocks. I asked took them an estimate from a place down the street and asked if they could beat it. The guy I spoke with wouldn't look me in the eye but said "You want me to cut their throat? I will." I should've walked away with that shadiness.
They offered to sell me expensive shocks didn't think I needed. I said no.
They knew I was leaving town for good in a week and that I'd have to do whatever they said. Then they told me I needed to rotate my tires and recenter. Then they called me and said the car was up on the jack and that they had discovered some broken ball joint (this was a Ford Explorer).
Long story short, half the work wasn't even done.
I got the car back and the steering wheel was misaligned. Is that possible if they aligned the wheels?
Then I drove the car across the country (Boulder to Missouri), only to have the noises from the new shocks become outrageous. A car repair place in Missouri told me the shocks were not attached. I almost wish there had been some kind of damage so I could've sued these guys. The way they treated me was outrageous. I'll never go to Big-O again anywhere, and I'm happy to be able to share my experience on a site like this at last. The total bill was $1200.
