This is still a lovely place to visit if you love quilts and quilting. I always take my visiting quilt friends here when they are in town. I have no problem with the new location. We usually have a docent with which to enjoy the show, and have not been disappointed yet. Just wish it were bigger, but it's always nice. Plan a day to stroll around the town as well and enjoy the quaint downtown area.
Save your money – Sorry I spent the time & money to go here. I recommend people save theirs, support your local quilt guild show instead. I was there a few years ago, but they have moved locations, downsized considerably. Only about 16-20 quilts there - which were amazingly beautiful - and although their brochure mentions 450 quilts in their collection, none are on display. You can view them on a website - which of course can be done from home.
Quilts & Art -- Ever-Changing – This museum has a much more intimate feel to it, and allows you to get up close and personal to the exhibits. Exhibits change regularly, and include everything from 'quilts by men' to some historically rare (and important) pieces. Friendly docents give free tours -- extremely helpful for learning more about the quilts' style, makers and importance. RMQM would give any gallery or museum in the area a run for its money, in terms of quality and graphic presence. (In fact, most don't have the high standards of quilts seen here.) Take a minute to visit the store, as well.
A great place to spend a morning or an afternoon -- tie it in with a visit to the gallery of Quilter's Newsletter, just down the road in Golden.
More than just bed warmers, these works of art concern themselves with life, death, weddings, joy and self-expression. – In Short
One of just six such museums in the country, the Golden facility houses a growing collection of antique as well as contemporary pieces. Visitors learn about the history of and the art involved in quilt making. In addition to displaying needlework by local artisans, the museum sponsors special exhibits that change every two months, including winning quilts from national invitational competitions as well as vintage quilts and pieces by contemporary artists.
