Long Distance – I've been a customer of Chow Downs for just under a year and they went above and beyond for me last month. My 2 dogs were being watched by a friend while I was caring for my parents out of state - my trip had to be extended by 2 weeks which depleted my dog food supplies. I called Chow Down, offered my credit card for an over the phone purchase....Instead, they told me they would take care of the food, and asked that I just come in and pay upon my return. My sitter informed me that the months worth of food was behind the counter waiting for her as promised as well as 2 dog bones. Chow Down has my business for life.

Independently, locally owned business worth supporting – Chow Down definitely lives up to the positive reviews on CitySearch. The employees love their jobs and are passionate about helping you take care of your pet. They always have smiles on their faces and enthusiastic welcomes. They are instantly on hand to help with finding the best product for your pet and insist on carrying large bags of food to your car. The owners are fixtures of the Evergreen community and truly believe in animal care and rescue, evident in aspects like their foster cat room and advocacy of no-kill causes. Chow Down always gives you the best value possible and carries only good quality products they believe in. They keep record of how many bags of food you buy and with brands like Nutro, you get your 10th bag free without having to turn in a rebate. The dog wash is very affordable--you're charged based on the amount of time it takes to wash your dog instead of an expensive flat rate. Other pet stores in town are nice and locally owned, but Chow Down has been there the longest and deserves your business. It's unfortunate that one customer had a bad experience with another customer's dogs*, but there is always the option to leave your pet in the car or outside the door, especially since the space is small and it may be difficult to avoid another pet that yours may not get along with. With all of the help inside, it's easy to get in and out within minutes.

* It is about the owner, not the breed. Please be a responsible pet owner--muzzle temperamental pets in public and always talk to another owner before letting your pet or child socialize with their dog.

best pet store hands down – Chow Down Pet Supplies is the best pet store in Evergreen hands down. The owners are wonderful people that make getting to know their customers and their pets a number one priority. They have great experience with animals as they have many and have been foster parents for hundreds of dogs. Chow Down has a great selection of products and any one of their friendly employees can answer difficult questions about pet issues. It is a great place to go give your pet a bath or just let them shop for goodies. The store is a completely safe environment for kids and pets alike. The employees are wonderful and will go the extra mile for each individual customer. They have stayed open 45 minutes past closing time so I could get food for my animals. They have also special ordered items for me that i could not find anywhere else (and for a great deal). I love Chow Down and I would not shop anywhere else for my animals.

Chow Down pet store in Evergreen continues to endorse PitBulls after attack in their store – Chow Down continues to endorse Pit_Bulls after attack

Saturday October 6, 2007

Within moments of entering the pet store Chow Down on 3719 Evergreen Parkway, 2 Pit_Bulls attacked and latched on to my 10 month old Border Collie, Sagan. A black and white Pit_Bull came up to Sagan and within a blink of an eye a Brown Pit_Bull lunged from around an obscured corner and locked on to Sagan?s throat. Then the Black one bit on to Sagan?s knee. The Black pit_bull was pulled off first leaving the Brown pit_bull locked on for what seemed like an eternity. We were punching and kicking the Pit_Bull then I grabbed a ruler and stabbed it down the pit_bull?s mouth to finally free my dog. All 3 dogs had been leashed. After I rushed Sagan to Evergreen Vet in Bergen Park, I later returned to Chow Down to pick up Sagan?s collar that came off during the attack. I asked the owners what they thought of the incident since I knew they encouraged Pit_Bull adoption and ownership in Colorado.

The owner of Chow Down blamed it on ?the people? in the room for creating the energy for the attack and not the Pit_Bull breed. Confused by her reasoning, we reviewed the details of the attack described above. The Chow Down owner concluded that the Brown Pit_Bull ?misread? the interaction of the Black pit_bull with my dog. She said her Pit_Bull would never attack anyone, because her dog knows she would kill_it if it did. It?s not the breed, it?s the owners and their training ability, she insisted. She added that the owners of the Pit_Bulls were actually there shopping for ?more aggressive? training collars and that they offered them some ?training advice? after the incident.

I will never go there again. I feel their ignorance is unsafe for dogs, children and adults alike. If you agree that their judgment is flawed by continuing to allow and encourage Pit_Bulls in their store and in our community, I ask you to join me in their boycott.

Best pet supply – I love this place! Even if I didn't live in Evergreen, I would shop here. I've called them up half an hour after their closing time on a Saturday and they've stayed open until I got there. They GAVE me their own open box of filters for my pet's water fountain, because they were out of them on the shelf. Their recommendation for a dry cat food turned my sick kitty into a healthy, happy cat, and they always carry the heavy stuff to my car. You will not get service like this from the Big Box stores. Thanks, Chow Down. You're the best!
