A West Hartford Institution has Closed. We'd had some lovely meals in this brightly-lit but very good place. They closed and it took us a while to discover some of the staff had been hired by Szechuan Tokyo. The people at Szechuan Tokyo told us that Osaka couldn't take the rent escalation imposed by their landlord and continue to make a profit. Sad, they were the best value in nearly any cusine in this are.
A loyal following has grown around this Farmington Avenue favorite's blissful Japanese cuisine..
Bring a friend to cover the sushi basics if you've never gone before: This Farmington Avenue mainstay has a loyal local following for its sushi, but the service doesn't always measure up to the food. The decor could use a little flavor, but a handful of private rooms with traditional Japanese seating give the experience an authentic note.
Shashimi, sushi and yakitori are offered a la carte or in combinations and dinner platters. The mouthwatering maguro sashimi dinner satisfies tuna lovers' cravings, while the east roll, with its shrimp and caviar, is a taste of decadence. In the mood for something different? Try the house-specialty Osaka Roll, melding the flavors of crab, caviar, shrimp and vegetables into one deep-fried delicacy.
Not very fresh. The fish here was not very good and it wasn't very fresh. I've had much better. Go try Fuji Japanese Restaurant located at 1144 New Britain Ave. in West Hartford. Their fish is very very fresh and the sushi is great. They also have very good lunch specials.
