What a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! – I was visiting from out of town and was told that one of the best gay bars to visit was the Silver Fox. I was in town for a week and so I decided to check it out and see for myself. I decided to call and then check out their website to see what days were good to go and have a good time. I decided to go on 2 for Tuesday nite, Wednesday for kareoke nite, and if all was fun on the weekends seeing that they also have a lot going on including kareoke on Sunday. I thought that I would have a great time and meet some new and interesting people. Needless to say, I did. I did have an okay time and I did meet some new and interesting people. My big disappointment came in the way of the staff of the Silver Fox. To begin with, The drinks are over priced and under liquored for the amount of money that I was spending there and from what I gathered and heard a lot of individual thought the same thing. The Doorman, if that's what you want to call him was very unpleasant and quite drunk (high on something) off his ass on all the days that I visited. On two of the days that I visited, he and a bunch of his friends/groupies were watching a DVD and not at all paying attention to who or what was entering the bar.. The bartenders were rude, drunk, forgot what you ordered and basically were the worst bartenders that I have ever encountered. I and a couple of others had to wait a considerable amount of time to order and get our drinks. Last, I was disappointed that there were clearly under aged individuals in the bar hustling drinks from older men. I myself am in my early 40's and found that quite annoying. When one or two individuals had complained, the staff just seem to turn a blind ear and eye and dismiss the issue. So I guess the question is: "Would I returned and recommend the Silver Fox to my friends and others visiting the Long Beach area?" The answer is a DEFINITIVE NO!!!
Fun, relaxing and a great time for unpretentious patrons – This is a great spot because the people are real, friendly and fun to get to know. You don’t have to stand in the corner and model – you can actually mingle. The bartenders are great and take the time to say hi – and they will remember you the next time you stop by. The space may not be an interior design show winner – but meeting new friends while smiling and laughing over drinks makes this place a neighborhood treat.
Worst karaoke in Long Beach – Yike! It seriously was painful to listen to. Their sound system is the worst. Library sucked. I was the worst sounding karaoke in Long Beach.
Long Beach mainstay delights as a comfortable and elegant gay drinking spot. – In Short
Bright and airy, the Silver Fox's mirrored walls and gray and white motif may be common, but not often done this well. The bar dominates the room, which makes sense since the sweet-natured bartenders behind it foster the friendly vibe that keeps regulars of all ages loyal to this watering hole. Small tables and counters fill out the right side of the room, with a piano and a small stage, which is home to the bar's beloved karaoke tradition.
