The new "Cheers" without the bar – This great old diner is a Pasadena landmark. Down home food with friendly consistent staff who start to recognize and know the regulars! This is a great meeting place for groups, after church hang out, or good really anytime. They are open 24 hours a day and has a huge menu, of course it serves breakfast/lunch/dinner all day! They also have daily home cooked specials which are always a good choice if you can't decide what to get. The only thing missing here are home-cooked pies which I never could figure out why they didn't have.
Avoid angry senior customers – I had a terrible experience at Conrad's in Pasadena and read this before you consider going there. Recently, I was there with a date and an elderly couple was sitting in the adjacent booth and listening to my conversation. I was discussing whether Columbus really discovered America and whether the Thanksgiving story about the Pilgrims was true. The elderly lady hears my comments and tells her husband that I am "un-American" and "should leave the U.S". I look at her and she yells to me "I hope you heard that". I said I did hear that. I than decided that I should try to find another table to sit to get away from these people. I walk to go find the manager and the husband threatens me with violence twice. I said nothing in return not wanting to provoke a fight with a senior citizen. The waiters moved my date and me to another table. I am upset and could not eat my dinner and packed it into a doggy bag. Unfortunately, it also ruined my mood for the rest of the evening for me and my date. As I was walking out, I told the hostess (night manager) about the incident and that I was owed an apology. She responded she didn't see it happen and would not apologize. She showed no concern about how I had been insulted about my patriotism and my manhood by two senior citizens. I had noticed when I walked into the restaurant a Cadillac with two American flags on the car. I presume that was the car of the elderly couple. If the restaurant caters to this type of customer, you may want to avoid potential trouble and stay away!"
Great meeting spot – This is a good place to have a meeting, or to convene just to mellow out after a meeting. The coffee is strong, the service is attentive yet discreet, so there's no one lookin' over your shoulder, bugging you about napkins, condiments and refills every two seconds, and the vibe is just REALLY chill. I like that.
HOW DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS? – I went to Conrad's becuase it's been around long time,I figured the food must be good.Boy was I wrong!!!! The service was poor and the food was worse! The waitress was unattentive barely returning to the table to refill drinks.Food was tasteless.Do restaurant owners ever read these reveiws? They should!
Still fair to middlin' – Again, I gave this Conrad's another chance. Again, they disappointed. This Conrad's location is conveniently located to downtown Pasadena. That's probably the reason they're still in business. They get a lunch crowd that suffers through the mediocrity. The menu is standard "high-end" diner food. From bacon and eggs to steak dinners. The menu choices are many but not always of the highest quality. The prices are very reasonable. I have found the staff to be short-tempered, bored, and inattentive. I once went through a late lunch without my beverage glass (a simple water) refilled once...and that was even AFTER I requested a refill. If you like the coffee shop feel and the menu, I suggest taking another 10 minutes and driving to the Glendale location on Central Ave. They're always friendly and will even bring you a large glass of water without having to be asked.
Nothing Rad about Conrad's – Absolutely the worst restaurant I've ever been to bar none! I had the meatloaf and I am not trying to be comedic in the least. First off the food was brought to us 1 min after ordering! (Nice preparation there Chefy) Then as i dug in into my un-suculant tv-dinner esque food. I was displeasured to the highest exponent of the word! The vegetables tasted like wax. The meatloaf had about as much flavor as a charbroiled-constrctution boot. The service was horrible! All the waiters were watching television rather than serving. The Ambience of Conrads was something straight out of a below par Las Vegas Buffet. I'll never go here again! My waterglass was dirty!!!! My friend got her plate exchanged. Totop it all off...The bathrooms were uncooth, and disarranged. The stalls smelled like a mildewy substance. Theres no Pro's when it comes to Conrads...Just "Con's". P.S Hire a Dishwasher
Not what it seems.... – The food is not that great to begin with. The services is terrible. I was once asked to change my table because I was waiting for a friend. I called the manager to complain and he hung the phone on me... The worst service I have experienced!
Old fashion diner – I usually eat breakfast here 2 times or more a month. The service is always good. The prices are just right.
They serve to serve again! – I've eaten at Conrad's at least once a month, either for breakfast or dinner for the past two years. It's become a default when the fridge is bare, or when I'm in the mood for a plain-Jane meat-and-potatoes meal. Conrad's is strong on many fronts, but strongest when it comes to items coming off the grill. Burgers, chicken breasts, skewers and the like are all uniformly excellent. Stay away from the stir fry and the Mexican food section of the menu. Breakfasts are also typically excellent. Eggs are always cooked to order, and even the oatmeal is good!
