I agree, we have been going to the Magic Mechanic for about 8 years, always great service . JD is great too. We always listen to 96.5 at 3:00 on Sat. Always informative information from Larry with his question/answer time.
I was off the road and back on the road in 2 hours. I'd take the time to hank Chris. I'd come back again.
On the road and loving my car again. Thank you Magic Mechanic.
3 weeks and $1500 later my car still doesn't run. So, there is no "Magic" to magic mechanic. Needless to say my car was misdiagnose. I am far from a mechanic. BUT if you get a code for the camshaft position censor wouldn't you think to check the CAMSHAFT? Shouldn't you check the camshaft instead of replacing the censor that is telling you to check the CAMSHAFT? Oh so if my oil light comes on does that mean change my censor instead of checking the oil? Finally after all the headaches, money, time and other things. I took it to the dealer had my car back less then 12 hours later. FIXED AND PURRING LIKE A KITTY! Lesson WELL learned! Larry Perry may know about cars BUT his tech sure don't share the same views. I had e-mailed Larry Perry asking for him to call me. Instead of a call back I received basically a slap in the face e-mail stating it is what it is. Now instead of emailing the consumer after when the consumer asked for you to contact them. Why would you even send that type of e-mail to the consumer? You didn't hear my side. Only your mechanics.
DON'T GO THERE! Unreliable work. Big mistake! Found out too late Larry/MagicMechanic pays for that air time....it's nothing but a commercial paid for by him.
Pushed our son who lives in Orlando (we are from Lakeland) into going here for rebuilt differential plus other related work on his Firebird because his father heard Larry on radio, was impressed, so believed they would do a good and reliable job since this was going to be costly. Son had to go since we were helping with high repair bill. First, emailed and talked on phone to Larry at MagicMech. He sounded knowledgeable and trustworthy.
I had to drive 70 miles from Lakeland to son's place. Next day we had to go across town (from UCF) 26 miles through traffic to get there -- I followed him in case of breakdown and so son would have transportation. No mention of a "loaner" and they knew the driving we had to make to get it there. Magic had it for 4 days (Tuesday 8a.m. through Friday 3 p.m.). ONE WEEK after picking it up (on a Friday afternoon), rattling coming from rear. They said "bring it back; sometimes there are bad parts that have to be replaced again"??? What??!!! He paid Thousands of Dollars for this work. And it's not reliable? Didn't want to drive car back because of the fear of breaking down on 408 or I-4 getting there, plus being without a car through the weekend and longer. Please note: THEY ARE CLOSED SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS. Then, we were told they had "loaners" BUT found when you want one, they don't have any...said they had one left but we would have to hurry to get over there to have it. Also told they need 4 days or more notice in order to get a "loaner". Son took car to his old mechanic at Tires Plus near UCF open 7 days a week; they looked underneath. Found at least 7 bolts MagicMech. had failed to tighten properly ("improperly torqued" was their terminology), including one that was "hanging by a thread". Guess they don't check their work. Hope nothing else is wrong with what Magic did; not too optimistic though.
Thanks to Tires Plus, no more rattle and Tires Plus charged nothing to do this since my son is a regular. Should have let him go there for differential to begin with. They have always done good job.
Will NEVER go to MagicMech. again!
Wish I had read these reviews before pushing son into going there. Big mistake.
Also note, it would have been $200+ less to have same work done @ Tires Plus. We knew this beforehand but thought MagicMech., because of representation on radio, would do better, reliable, more experienced job. LOL
BE SMART; DON'T GO THERE!
Bad Mechanic – I took my 03 Jag to have the transmission fluid and filter changer at Magic Mechanic on Lee Rd on Friday July 29th at 1pm. After picking up my car later that afternoon, I went home to change clothes before I went out. As I got out of the car I noticed lots of scratches on the passenger side front fender just behind the headlight, and leaves stuck in the bumper where it meets the fender. These scratches had not been there when I dropped off the car at Magic Mechanic. I went inside to change then drove back to the shop only to find it closed at 5:55pm. I had to wait untill Mon morning to returned to the shop as they are closed Sat and Sun and no one would answer the phone. I showed the shop manager the damage and was told that they are not liable for it. When I asked the mechanic that had worked on my car if he had hit anything while test driving it, he couldn't even look me in the eye when he said no. The manager said he would try to "buff it out" for me if I wanted to bring it back when they weren't busy. I then asked about the transmission fluid that was left in my trunk that wasn't used when they did the fluid change. He said that they don't flush out all the old fluid, they just drop the pan and refill. If I had been told that in the first place, I would have taken it elsewhere and not have a scratched up fender. The manager simple turned around and walked back inside. I have taken my previous car to this same location several times before when there was a different person managing it, and never had any problems.
Disrespect and Dishonesty – I have been a loyal customer of Magic Mechanic for four years. They are the only place I trusted to touch my car. No more.
I took my car in at 7:30am on Monday morning to have them look at the burning oil smell I was still having after they had already said they repaired an oil pan leak. (I was pretty sure it was the CV boot leaking on the catalytic converter). I also was now experiencing strong vibrations when driving. They said they would be looking at my car at 12:30pm.
Monday at 4pm I called and they still had not touched my car. They said there were three cars still ahead of mine.
Tuesday at 3pm I called and they said their were 3 cars ahead of mine. I was rather upset that it was day 2 with still nothing done on my car and still, supposedly, 3 cars ahead of me. I wished they had told me Monday morning it would be 3 or 4 days before they would even look at my car.
At 4pm I called to tell them I was going to take my car to a mechanic who has time to work on my car but a tech had just taken it out so I thought, perhaps, they were finally going to get around to fixing my car. They called back at 5:15pm with the following estimate:
- New CV Axle - $285
- Transmission Transfer Case - fluid is real black & need new filter - MAY need a new transmission.
They were going to flush it first for $769 but a new transmission for the Subaru is over $2,000 and that may be what's needed if the flush doesn't work.
- Power Steering Rack & Pinion - leak including alignment - $185
- New rear tires - $183
I knew I needed new tires.
They did not acknowledge that they mis-diagnosed the leak earlier.
They said they would flush the transmission first thing Wednesday morning and then give me a call.
I called Wednesday (DAY 3) at 1pm and was told that they had not done anything on my car yet. At this point I was pissed that I was consistently lied to and stuck having to bum rides from friends not to mention being without my car longer than I was expecting.
Magic Mechanic was not the least bit concerned about this nor were they able to give me any time frame NOR were they concerned about the earlier mistake.
I ended up picking up my car from Magic Mechanic who seemed glad to be rid of me. I took it to another place for a second opinion. Within HOURS Bill diagnosed my car as needing a new CV boot and nothing else. I now have my car back within one day from Mechanics Plus who provided excellent customer service and, to boot, he only charged me $180 for the work that Magic Mechanic was going to charge $285!
I now wonder how many other times I've been ripped off by these guys who don't seem to care about their customers. Perhaps it’s because Larry is no longer there or perhaps they have grown too big and too busy to worry about keeping good customers or maybe all they want to do is oil changes. Regardless, I've learned that just because someone's on the radio and charges outrageous prices, it doesn't mean they are honest or provide good service.
look . this shop is great, you get what you pay for and there is no magic in that. larry i respect you and listen to you on the radio for at least 10 minutes every saturday. and i know how you do it. let us figure out how to have a meeting of the minds . after all who is john galt?
