From the moment we walked in it was bad service from having to wait too long to order food, get food to having to go to the counter to have leftovers bagged and get our bill. Not enough meat in sandwiches to warrant $9. First time I had eaten there.
Pickles is the real deal! – Pickles menu features both authentic old favorites in the true New York deli style, and new delights, like their gorgonzola cheese homemade potato chips. The Manager is a sweetheart and the staff are helpful and friendly, unlike Ronnies, where the staff were actually ordered not to smile. My only complaint is that they close too early every day, so I can seldom get there for dinner after work. Skip the long lines at the nearby 4 Rivers and treat yourself to some delicious nostalgia.
AUTHENTIC GREAT FOOD – The food is excellent pastrami and corned beef perfect potato salad great service not as good as the food for the longtime orlando residents reminds me of Ronnies with poor service but the food is worth the delay and ineptness of the waite staff a treat for those who know and appreciate New York deli stgyles and tastes warning however if you are used to the many imminations that exist with bland flavors and one size fits all taste be prepared for the real thing
Triple Disrespect – Sunday morning is a time to relax, enjoy the moment, and be amongst those we love. I went to this establishment 11-13-11 and to my surprise, very few people were in the place.
After asking the waitress about the home potatos, I decided to spend the additional $2.00 for the side. When the order was finally delivered, I notified the waitress the potatos were cold (literally). I took two bites and left the bundle pushed to the side of the plate. I told the waitress not to replace this side order as I had all ready lost my confidence.
At the conclusion of the meal, she took our plates, my potatos were untouched.
The bill came with the cost of the cold untouched potatos on the bill. On the receipt I did voice my comments and dissatisfaction on the cold potatos and now being asked to pay for them (which I did).
An hour later I received a call from the owner and we had a nice chat. He apologized and offered to send a coupon which will allow me to come in to purchase a meal and receive the second meal for half the price. Needless to say, not a great bargain but perhaps he was trying to resolve the poor food and service. I gave him my email account and he promised the coupon would be sent within the next 30 minutes. Here it is one week later and no word from the owner. This act of deceit simply confirmed that Pickles will not find our footsteps walk through their door... call this a warning for anyone wanting to try this place out.
Disrespect #1 = cold potatos
Disrespect #2 = being charged for cold uneaten potatos
Disrespect #3 = owner deceit and promises unkept.
In summary, if you are look to purchase cold potatos and poor service while supporting an owner filled with deceit, Pickles in Longwood is your place to go.
Truly Authentic – My husband and I frequent this restaurant whenever they are open. We enjoy all that we have eaten there and in reply to the pastrami complaint, I have eaten that sandwich each time I have gone there and never had the same experience as kenkats.
The sandwich is always warm, lean pastrami, and loaded.....no teaspoon! The potato salad is delicious as well.
I wish more people would frequent this place so there will be more hours of operation and we could go more often. The economy has hurt all food services and it is a shame, but we owe it to our local stores and restaurants to patronize them as often as we can.
The one thing I miss is the hot, stuffed peppers in oil. Hope you bring them back soon!
Most Disgusting Sandwich I Have Ever Seen!! – Do not make the same mistake we made when we went to this restaurant!! Ordered the hot pastrami sandwich since this place calls itself an authentic New york style deli. What a mistake! The sandwich came out after waiting about 20 minutes. The pastrami was shredded into little stringy chuncks, mostly the burned outer part of the skin, and about a tablespoon of meat altogether. When I complained, the waitress said nothing, whisked the plate to the kitchen and in about 10 minutes some guy came out with a large piece of pastrami (which also looked burnt and disgusting) and my sandwich and was explaining why I don't know what pastrami should taste like and how this was a very good pastrami sandwich. I asked if he had ever eaten shredded pastrami that was mostly hard burnt skin and he said that was normal! Maybe for him but to anyone else it would be inedible! He offered to make another sandwich to which I politely declined. So then my dining partner finished her lunch which was also bad. I told her I would get the car while she paid for her lunch. After I left, the owner of the restaurant started screaming that I had left without paying for my flat, fountain coke of which I had two sips while I was waiting 20 minutes for my disgusting, inedible pastrami sandwich. The owners of this restaurant obviously know nothing about running a business. I highly doubt they will be in business in 6 months. Save yourself the money and time and go somewhere else.
DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE – I can’t even rate this horrible food. We ordered from here for our work breakfast and it was the worst food ever. The 100.00 we spent only go us a horrible burnt casserole. Good thing we had all brought other stuff because we all said the same thing NEVER AGAIN… You live and you learn..And we got burned with this one..Literally!!
