My wife and I recently stayed two nights on the Queen Mary. We had a fantastic time! There's so much to see and do on the ship and even more in the surrounding area. Our standard room was clean, comfortable and larger than a standard room on a modern-day cruise ship. We loved how they've made an extra effort to maintain the original art deco decor. Upon first impression it could seem as if the room is old and outdated. Well, it is. But it's original and very well maintained. The extra large port holes were great for views and cool ocean breezes. Our bed was very comfortable. One problem you could encounter is noise from adjoining cabins due to thin walls. Because of this, they have a strictly enforced noise policy that includes being removed from the ship. We dined in several of the restaurants and found them to be better than we expected. They're well known for their Champagne Sunday Brunch in the exquisite Grand Salon. In talking with Lucy in Chelsea's Chowder House and Carlos in Sir Winston's Lounge, we discovered that the Queen Mary has a happy crew on board - many have been there for decades. One benefit of staying on board was the lack of crowds after 6pm when many of the day visitors disembark. We found several small museums on the ship that we've never encountered on afternoon visits. Parking is $17/day and day visitors can get that reduced to $5 with a validation from any of the restaurants or bars onboard. We ventured out during the day to the U.S.S. Iowa Battleship in San Pedro - only 15 minutes away. Way Cool! Next to the Queen Mary is Scorpion, a cold war-era Russian submarine that's open for tours. Within a short to moderate walking distance from the Queen Mary are the Aquarium of the Pacific (L.B. Aquarium), Shoreline Village and The Pike which provide visitors with a multitude of dining, shopping and entertainment options. Shoreline Village offers boating charters from fishing to dinner cruises. Ferry departures for Catalina Island are located at several locations around the Queen Mary. The AquaLink water taxi connects the ship to several key tourist destinations in the Long Beach Harbor. It's inexpensive and worth it just to go for a round trip boat ride. The Queen Mary is a great destination for out-of-towners or a staycation for locals. We'll be doing it again... sooner rather than later.
Amazing Views – This massive boat has everything!
I really enjoyed the views it was incredible. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. i had a great time and would recommend it to a friend.
I loved it! – This place is great! I spent two nights there, but i wish i could have stayed more. This hotel has been in Long Beach since 1967 and it actually use to have a steady flow of about 2,000 people. It slowly drifted off as she aged, but i think it's time she be appreciated again. There is no reason for such a beautiful, historical landmark to go to waste. Can you believe they were going to sink her at one point? Everyone who works there is so friendly, the food is great, the beds are amazing, there's lots to do, it's beautiful in the morning out on the deck, and the price we got for the room was outstanding. We got to take multiple tours including a ghost encounters tour (The Queen Mary is known for being haunted), a russian submarine tour, and a tour about world war II. You really feel like your in a 1930's film when you walk in there. Out room was very roomy, it was very clean, and we met some interesting people! She is run down in a few parts of the ship, but they really do try to maintain her. She just needs some more visitors. Ships are expensive to maintain! I highly recommend you stay at the queen mary, or even just go take some day tours they offer, the next time you are in Long Beach, California.
Disappointing Attraction – It all started at the ticket counter with a grumpy and less than helpfull sells person, the tour guides are knowledgeable but strange carnival folk, and the ship condition is dusty.
Typical city owned attraction - over priced and under served.
There are wonderfull views of the harbor from the ship deck, and ther eis a lot of history to be enjoyed but dont depend on a employee to provide you a satisfying visit.
Stunning view from the top deck – It feels like entering the Titanic. The overwhelming boat is equipped with almost every service one desires while the stylish bar and top deck offer a stunning view of the ocean and Long Beach. My friend and me almost got lost at this huge boat, with all its hallways it feels like being in a maze. It is definitely a sight to see.
Time to abdicate! – The Queen Mary is in desperate need of an overhaul. The "self guided" tour begins with dusty museum-like displays in an ambiguous space in the rear of the ship and meanders with little in the way of clear signage from deck to deck. You get to see a mock-up of typical guest rooms, but you don't actually get to see any real guest rooms. The Ghosts and Legends tour provides access to some interesting spaces -- the swimming pool, boiler room and engine room. But dim lighting, recorded screams and voices, and a mist of water hardly deliver on the frightening experience touted on the signage. Bring comfortable walking shoes; not a single one of the many escalators was working, so touring the QM can be like an hour on the stairmaster. The Queen Mary could be great -- it's an awesome and historic ship. But as it gathers dust today, it's definitely not worth the price of admission.
OVER THE TOP WEDDING! – I HAD MY WEDDING ON THE SUNDECK ,IT WAS ABSOULUTLY WONDERFUL, OUR COORNATOR DID JUST A WONDERFUL JOB, SHE WAS THERE FOR ALL OF OUR NEEDS. SHE WENT OVER AND BEHOND THAT WAS EXPECTED. I WOULD RECOMMEND HER AND HER STAFF TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY. MY HAT TO HER AND STAFF! BIG THANKS WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER OUR SPECIAL DAY .
Great Wedding Day On the Queen! – It was a wonderful experianece ! I was worried at first we had gone threw serveral wedding planners since last year , But the manager of the wedding chapel did an fantasic job in making sure all of our needs where completed. She had serveral weddings on that day , But she made me feel like I was the only one .She was always professional ,caring and fun to work with. She cared about my family she made sure that we had inculded all of our grandparents and parents. I would highly recommend her to any of my friends and family. Big Thanks to her and her staff for a memorable day! Lizzard
Romantic, But Reed-Thin Walls Distract and Awaken – I planned a romantic trip here with my boyfriend on our 5th Anniversary, and we had a wonderful time except the stupid people next door would NOT shut up despite our knocking on the walls, and calling security to complain. The walls are very thin, and you can hear EVERYTHING. So don't plan on moaning during s3x or telling secrets you want to keep. This is a great location for a romantic getaway but you wont be able to sleep much if you have bad luck and get stuck with crappy noisy neighbors.
Wedding and Reception was the best and most Beautiful – I have heard of the changes at the Queen Mary recently and was worried considering what I heard. I must say they were all unfounded, we had the best and most rememberable ccermony and recception. The staff from the Chapel to the waiters were just perfect.
We would like to say thank you for making our special day! We would recommend the Queen Mary to any and everyone!!
Keep up the great work!!
