Exotic curios and art pieces from Central and South America (and points beyond) are the focus at this charming shop. – The Scene
This unusual shop is as much a museum as it is a store. Owner Rocky Behr has transformed her love of travel and in particular of the art and culture of Central and South America into a store teeming with folk art and curios from around the globe. Put plenty of coin in the parking meter-you'll want time to explore the treasures this store holds.
Although the shop offers many practical items, like hand painted coffee mugs, most items are purely decorative-from the intricately-painted Oaxacan wood figurines, to tiny tin milagros (religious charms), picture frames, jewelry, primitive masks, shadow boxes, and papier mache. You don't have to be a believer to love the crucifixes, or the extraordinary Day of the Dead figurines, some nearly two feet tall. There's also a book section, covering international arts, crafts and culture.
Gifts and Mexican artifacts – There are actually two Folk Tree locations on the same block in Pasadena, on the same side of the street. They're both part shop, part gallery.
The northern one stocks locally made jewelry and clothing, and random gift items such as nice candles and San-X stationery. The southern one focuses on Mexican folk art. They sell items ranging from wall hangings to key chains.
