Unfriendly Owner and Staff, Unless Your Drunk – I had a BAD experience at this restaurant! For years i have enjoyed the tex-mex style food. But recently, the owner, who as waiting on us, yelled at my wife over a question she had on the bill. This was so uncalled for and completely unprofessional. There is no reason to yell at a patron. Whatever personal problems he has should stay at home. Want the best Mexican food in the area. Try La Cabanita. They are friendly at his fine establishment.

Best Tostada in town! – Honestly, this is one of the best tostadas I've had. The food here is great and the portions are large! Peter is an adorable waiter and host and Ruben is friendly, too. The fajitas are excellent and Sunday bruch is a must. But, promise me, you'll try that tostada. They will prepare it anyway you like - grilled shrimp or chicken, ground beef, vegetarian, no salt, hold the beans - whatever! Love this place. Great relaxed atmosphere and very affordable.
Grave disappointment – I will NEVER go to this restaurant again. It offers substandard food and substandard service. Save your money.
And yes. I am Mexican.
For starters, we asked if they had tamarindo or horchata to drink, staple of any typical Mexican restaurant, and were told they did not. That should have been our first sign of what was in store! Then the waitress was overly zealous, it seemed, for us to eat and leave. We had been seated for less than 1 minute when she asked us if we knew what we were having, and then she continued pestering every 2 minutes or so, as soon as I closed my menu she stood there with her little notepad waiting for the order. We ordered our food and were not impressed. The cheese enchiladas were descent, the beans HORRENDOUS, the guacamole was good, the albondiga soup was EXTREMELY salty, and the service was TERRIBLE. We were not yet done with our meal when she sent a waiter over with to go boxes! Soon after that, as soon as I put down my fork (everyone else was done), she dropped the check off and waited! When my husband pulled out his card to pay and friend pulled out his simultaneously (even though we were adamant about paying for the entire dinner) she stated to my husband that they did not accept his form of payment and swooped on friend's card! I was OUTRAGED! For a 'family owned' restaurant this was horrible! I am a good natured patron (always fear people will take do something to my food) so I don't understand why the urge for us to get out of there. Sadly, I'd prefer El Torito or Margarita Jones any day! At least the service there is descent, and the food tastes better.
Rest. Mgr. about town – I'm sorry, but being that I am old bartender, I must say these are the poorest margaritas I have ever had. The bartender was visibly pissed when my wife asked if they used Gran Marnier or Cointreau in their Cadillac's. "No, we use another brand". "What brand" was asked, and answered with a type I have never heard of. Go look at the well & "premium" brands, what a joke!! Im sorry but high quality ingrediants give you a high quality cocktail. The bartender pretty much ignored us the rest of our stay, needless to say I couldnt wait to leave, and wont be back.
White-washed Mexican Food – Went to City Search and said this place had great reviews. Tried it, but was not impressed at all. This is more like an Acapulco or some other white-washed "Mexican" restaurant, rather than the real deal.
If you've never experienced authentic Mexican food, this may seem like "da Bomb!" but in fact, this is nothing like true, authentic Mexican food.
The menu is really limited and was disappointing. There was no lengua or menudo, which are staples of good Mexican cuisine. Service was pretty bad.
The world's greatest pancakes!!! – Obviously, their typical Mexican dishes are excellent but you NEED to have the Sunday brunch. Peter welcomes you with the popping of the champagne bottle for your table. They have a self-serve cart full of fresh fruit, juices and Mexican pastries. Then order the pancakes, eggs and bacon/sausage. I guarantee that you have NEVER had pancakes like this! They are thick and fluffy and they come bathed in melted butter and warm syrup. Who would have guessed that you would find the world's greatest pancakes in a Mexican restaurant?
chips n' beans, chips n' beans – The portions were hearty and served hot. The chips and beans were top notch, which is the 1st measure a good Mexican food. The rice was also very flavorful
LNP delivers great food and service!! – Being a pasadena native I have found LNP to be tops in mexican food for the San Gabriel Valley. Get there early, order a ruben special and wash it down with a corona/cadillac margarita. By the time you finish your table will be ready. Both Peter and Ruben provide excellent service so the wait is worth it. Hang out in the bar and talk Dodgers/ Raiders/Nascar/Golf with Ruben and who knows what might happen next. After dinner you will know why there is so much familia at the restaurant. Be prepared for a great time!!
You'll wonder why you ate anywhere else! – Good old no frills mexican cooking presented in a simple yet appealing way. Family run (for over 25 years), La Nueva takes pride in its many repeat customers (they always know your "usual"). It can get crowded most evenings but try Sat/Sun around 1-4 p.m. (you won't usually have to wait). The Margaritas are average, but who cares when the food is so good! Try the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, Carnitas, Taquitos (the best), Enciladas/Tacos and the biggest/tallest Tostadas! For an appetizers...try a Posada Delight or a "Ruben Special". The atmosphere is like a big party with good food, friends, and a variety of fun conversations. Anyone we've taken to La Nueva becomes a repeat customer (and if they live out-of-town they always insist on eating there before returning home). Stop by and say hi to Peter, Ruben and 'Mom'! You never eat mexican anywhere else again!!
Awesome – La Nueva is GREAT! We've been coming here for years and just love it! They treat everyone like family friends and their memory of your likes and dislikes are amazing. Whether you take the kids or have an adult night out you'll enjoy it. The atmosphere is like having a house full of people, with good food and a fun variety of conversations going on at the same time. A Great BIG THANX! to Peter (Uncle Peter to my kids), Rueben, Yogi, Liz, Hector, Mom, Tony, Martin and everyone there for everything! Oh yea, the food and service is WONDERFUL! Enjoy.........
