I don't know what the problem is with Claudia, Wanda and Jim, but I live in Hollywood and have been going to Morningstar's for years. I am not an employee of the store. I don't know if they have been at their Hollywood Blvd location for 50 years but I can tell you that I have lived in Hollywood for 30 years and I know that they were here long before I was.
Dealing with the staff at Morningstar's has always been a pleasure. They are not condescending and I have never been treated with anything but respect whenever I have gone there to do business.
I tend not to believe Julies' story because her chain would be either 14K OR 12K not both. Furthermore if Julies' chain was 14k / 12K (sic) as she claims why would she be complaining that they gave her back a chain of 18K... a much higher grade of gold? That just makes no sense.
I don't believe Wandas' story either. I don't believe for an instant that she took her jewelry that Morningside's offered her $1200. for somewhere else and got $2400 for it. Nope. Don't believe it.
Apparently Jim thought that he was at a yard sale. As for his story it's entirely possible that his item was belittled (he thought) because it wasn't gold. They don't lend money on jewelry because it has sentimental value for the owner.
In fact, how could they have been in business for so many years if they didn't treat their customers well and made a practice of ripping their clients off? Simple answer: they wouldn't be because their business, like any other, depends on the goodwill of their clients.
Here's my story. I am the owner of a very heavy gold necklace with some little diamonds.
I needed a quick loan of $900. to pay for tile for my new kitchen floor. When I took my lovely necklace to Morngingside's and told them the amount that I needed they offered me $2500. It was tempting but I knew that if I borrowed $2500, I would have to pay $2500. back, plus 5%. Rather than take the chance that I wouldn't be able to pay it back and lose my necklace I only took the $900.
Another time I brought in some items with diamonds and they told me that my stones were not big enough for them to take. I totally understand and if you go by their store and take a peek in the window you will also understand. Clearly they are not Value Pawn or some other cheapo pawn shop. What they did offer was to take a look at the jewelry and tell me what its value was so that I could sell it elsewhere.
I do NOT work for the store, and while doing business there I was NEVER, EVER treated with a condescending attitude by anyone. I just have a feeling that the three negative reviews were written by people who were disgruntled because their trinkets weren't worth what they believed, hence the comment about being paid next to nothing.
Sometimes the truth hurts.
This place they claim to be iin business for 50 years..... The manager Oscar is a crook.... Two month ago I pawned my 18k gold Chaim when i went back to retrieve it did not notice till the following day that this was not my chain .... Suspecting something was wrong I called them told them; they said i would have to come in with any claims but before that I went to two different jewelry stores in the area and they told me this chain was 14/12k ... When we took it back to this Oscar " the manager" of this place if you can believe it. We give him the chain he enters the back room and in a matter of seconds comes out with a different chain which looks more like mine and in fact when tested there was 18k and the weight was the same that was listed on the paper.... Be aware of these crooks!!!! you may have gone there in a time of need with you diamonds thinking these people are trustworthy and probably got zirconias back !!!!!!
Excellent! I been going here for many years. They fixed all my jewelry that was broken. I bought a beautiful designer watch on a great deal..I always recommend this place if you are in this Hollywood FL
Any good reviews about this place had to be written by employees or the owners. I took my jewelry there and was told it was worth $1200, I went somewhere else and they paid me $2400. This place is a rip off.
skip the rest and go to the best.....the original home of the 5 percent loan...They have always been great to me and you get one on one customer service ,private and sit down if you want, buying or selling they rank as #1 in book.If pawning they are better than the greedy pawn shops that will give you pennies on the dollar and then if your one day late.too bad ,so sad, your stuff is up for sale .
Awful Pawnshop – This pawn shop, fronting as a jewelry store, should be avoided at all costs. If pawning an item, you will get a condescending attitude, your item belittled, and be paid next to nothing. Just go to any other pawn shop, and you will receive better service.
