SURPRISE! Pay ten dollars or get police escort out – First let me start by saying the atmosphere when you walk in the place is that of an open barn - musty wood from beer and the smell of bus-boy tubs of half eaten plates. Its barely holding the middle of the road down of Americana. I originally was going around the corner to a bar that had a slightly more upscale customer base and better service, but it had closed out of business and I had yet to learn of it. I certainly didn't make the trip out that night to come to this place and feel like I was in a cattle factory.

I have been to this Millers Ale House only twice. The first time before this I went I sat at the bar and ordered their special dollar beers. I get handed this dwarfed mug of draft beer. It wasn't even a full beer. It was like playing tea house with my baby sister and her little tea set. Honestly, I thought "ale house" type bars appealed to "man" portions. A goofy little miniature cup spelled "commercial gimmick" not "ale house". I found out later from the waitress that it was about 2/3 of regular draft beer mug. The problem with it is that you need to order more often and wait for the waitress each time. That and if you're a stand up guy tipping a dollar or more for each drink, then you have a bigger tip. In short its not better than any other drink special in the area when you consider the total cost and tack on the inconvenience. When I checked out, there was a little problem with the bill, but the waitress corrected the overcharge.

The second time I went in, I had a little trepidation because of the first billing incident, but since they fixed it I was willing to take the chance and visit again. That and the bar I wanted to go to was still closed.

I usually don't go back to beer places where more than what I ordered shows up on my bill, but I gave Millers Ale House the benefit of the doubt. You know ..."Mistakes happen"

This time there was a special on beer buckets. After some confusion in getting an explanation from the curt waitress and nailing down exactly what a bucket was which there were several bucket "specials" I end up with 5 bottle beers in front of me in a white pale of ice.

I am new to this Florida buying bulk beers all at once concept, but I figured I would buy up to four over the evening and the price seemed like it would be cheaper than ordering four individually, so why not.

Just after drinking one beer, I am surprised by the waitress that she wants an additional ten bucks from me because the "fight' was coming on the TV. Well I certainly didn't come into the ale house with the intention of paying 20 dollars for drinking 4 beers nor the alternative of drinking them all in 15 minutes. So I told her no one told me at the door, no signs are posted and you said nothing about having to drink all these beers by a deadline or paying and additional ten dollars when I ordered. I wouldn't want to drink five beers irresponsibly. My plan was to relax and drink them normally. I was not driving, I got a ride from the sunny Isles area, but still why rush? Anyway, she said I have to pay regardless of me not being told before I ordered. I refused. Later she came back and demanded again. I refused again "on principal" and told her I only wanted to finish my order and not watch TV. I was talking with a business guy I met next to me.

Then the manager came and he gave me a choice 1) to pay ten dollars more for the TV or 2) leave my order I paid for behind and get out or 3) he would report me to the two police officers at the door as a non pay and have me physically thrown out.

I refused to be coerced into paying this surprise fee, so he brought the door police over. Thankfully the police were not wound up and acted professionally (although ignoring the possibility this was extortion or bait and switch at its worse).

Oddly the guy next to me pointed out that she did not demand from anyone else yet. "???"

Most odd evening ever of all the places I have been in the world.
