I'm currently 24 years sober;a product of treatment and sober housing. For the past 20 years, I've been a staunch client advocate while working in various treatment and housing settings in several states. It is from this perspective that I write this tip. Historically, my personal and professional experience has taught me not to give much credence to the "totally negative" blogs written by adversely terminated individuals who were formerly residents and/or staff of sober communities. Across the country, this is a characteristic of individuals who typically have an extensive history of failed sober treatment and employment episodes. They are quite adept at avoiding the reasons why they did not thrive at their prior facilities which they also negatively blog about. Accompanied by their deteriorated level of functioning and family supports, relocation to a sober living environment has proven to be a logical and beneficial option. Over the years, numerous colleagues have and continue to refer clients and colleagues to Boca House for sober housing and employment opportunities. While vacationing in Florida eight years ago, I stopped by Boca House for a glimpse of their sober community operation. I routinely visited facilities while traveling. Needless to say, I pursued a position at Boca House and remain there to date. Again, from my perspective as a recovering addict and client advocate, Boca House affords residents the opportunity to live a drug free self-sufficient lifestyle. Staff is afforded the privilege of assisting residents to effect changes required for this evolution. THAT'S THE DEAL. It is interesting to read the comments from individuals who successfully thrive at Boca House. Not only do they speak to their individual success and staff's support, they understand how a peer's lack of serious commitment to his/her recovery precipitates relapse, loss of employment, rent arrears, arrests, etc. On the other hand, I have yet to see a former resident speak of his/her perceived negative experience as well as cite ANY successes of his/her fellow peers. Unlike successful residents, these individuals continue to reject personal responsibility and accountability for their recovery. The same pattern is seen in the former employee who failed to keep his/her part of the deal which precipitated his/her termination. CONSIDER THE SOURCE. Clearly they do not speak on the numerous success stories they have themselves witnessed at Boca House. I have personally witnessed or been involved in interventions designed to assist residents with corrective actions required to facilitate their continued residency at Boca House. These have ranged from treatment referrals, family conferences, scholarships, restrictions, budgeting, rent abatement and supplemental employment. Many residents have capitalized on these supports and continue to do well in their recovery. Former residents have been afforded the benefit of one or more of these interventions well before their negative discharge or their decision to terminate their stay. In my experience, it is ironic the same individuals who once championed and gained benefit from rigorous drug testing, apartment inspections, timely rent payment, 12 step fellowship, employment, self-sufficiency and accountability cry foul when they are no longer willing to DO THE DEAL they signed up for. You will be amazed how many of these "totally negative" bloggers return to request re-admission or re-hire. They are often afforded another opportunity at Boca House. They too have seen numerous other facilities.
DO THE DEAL YOU SIGNED UP FOR . IT WORKS AT BOCA HOUSE.
The other day I stumbled across this site and saw some outrageous reviews which made me frustrated that people would mess with other's chances for recovery. I went to Boca House's program in April of 2008. When I arrived I was scared, broken and sick. I began using at the age of 13 and made it to Boca House when I was 21. Throughout those 8 years of using, I had seen and experienced so many horrific things and never thought I would have a chance at a 'normal' life.
A week before I went to Boca house, one of my good friends contacted me, she told me that she was living in a halfway house and had remained sober there for 6 months. At that time I thought this sounded crazy, I never knew of anyone who had been in recovery. But after looking at my life for that week and realized I did not have one, I made the decision to ask for help. I called Boca House and they wanted to help me. It was so refreshing to actually have someone WANTING to help me after all of the horrible things I had done.
So I arrived at Boca House and there my true journey began. I remained sober at this halfway house for 7 months. While I was there I learned so much about myself, was encouraged to attend 12-step meetings and obtain a sponsor. I did everything that they suggested, I finally realized I could have a real life! After staying one month extra through my committment, I finished the Boca House program. Once I completed, the owner offered me a position of his facility! I could not believe it that someone had that much faith in me to employ me! I will be forever grateful to this program, they have shown me so much about life. My sobriety date is April 15, 2008. I have many thanks for Boca House.

The treatment I received from Boca House, rather from the methods and philosophy of their approach to the disease of addiction has put me on the which all lead me to a life of sobriety. I now have tools which can enable me to work through issues that may have, in the past, led me down a road to the destruction of myself and others.
Thanks to all of the staff for opening my eyes to the opportunity of a new way of life!
At Boca House, I was able to become very familiar with my feelings and emotions. I came from another rehab where I spent 25 days but it was Boca House that enabled me to become familiar with my alcoholism. I wish I could stay much longer but my family is waiting. I want to thank everyone here for all your support and wisdom. This program is awesome!
I don’t even know where to begin. You literally saved my life. I came here when I was broken, scared and helpless. Today, I am celebrating one year clean and sober. You guys put hope back into my heart. I really couldn’t have done it without your guidance. You are a huge part of the strong, independent woman that I am today. I love you guys so much and will forever remain grateful.
At Boca House , I learned so much about myself and my life. I came in broken down and weak. But with the help of staff and therapists, they helped me get on the right path of life. A lot of people doubted that I would make it this far. But I showed that with hard work and willingness, anything is possible. Take suggestions, make mistakes and reach for your ultimate goal. Thank you to all the staff that stuck by me. I love you all.
I’m glad that I made the decision to ask my family for help. And I’m definitely glad they decided to send me here. This was an amazing place to come to clear my mind and get well. Before I came, I couldn’t even imagine actually living my life. Now I’m anticipating it. My thanks go to everyone at Boca House for dealing with me and opening my mind so that I could break down this wall that I have in front of me. I would say thanks a million times over and over but I don’t have the time. Love you guys. Peace!
12 Step based addiction treatment recovery program with strong peer support and accountability in sobriety.
For over 25 years Boca House has provided men & women with the best sober living & after care program. Insurance accepted for Intensive Outpatient Programs.
ost halfway houses and sober living communities are found in the less desirable parts of town, surrounded by drugs and crime, making the road to recovery difficult. The Boca House is different. We are located in an ideal quiet residential neighborhood in beautiful Boca Raton, FL.
We are minutes from the beach and within walking distance of shopping, restaurants, public transportation, two major universities and abundant employment opportunities.
On feb 8th 2011 I arrived here at boca house with just the cloths on my back. I was on the streets for months after leaving another halfway house. Boca house gave me a chance to get my life back. The structure, rides to meetings, helping my find a job, and a drug free environment was just the beginning. Everyone from my big brother to other guys living here to all the drivers and employees have made my stay here very comfortable . I am still proud clean and sober and I have boca house to thank. I now have a year and a half clean and am going back to D.C. to reunite with my wife and continue my new life. thank you boca house.
I am a father who might be the only person in my family who doesnt suffer from addiction. So I am very fimiliar with these programs, there are tons of them, and I have practically researched them all. My son was in a facility here in texas and needed to go to a structured after care program. I did A LOT of research (probably 30 different options), and ALL of them have positive and negative reviews on blog sites like this one. If you're a parent like me looking for a program for your addicted loved one, do not do yourself the disservice of putting all of your stock in blog sites, THEY ARE NOT VERIFIABLE. If you want to research something and know thats verifIable than check with the BBB. Any complaints or "negative reviews" they receive are verified through documentation or proof in order to give them a rating. With all this said, I sent my son to Boca House. They have an A rating with the Better Business Bureau, and have been around for over 25 years. I'm pretty sure many businesses that have been around for that long do not have current A ratings. Send your loved one wherever you want, this isn't a promo. My son has been at boca house for several months and is still doing well, but still do the CORRECT research for yourself.
One I completed my 30 day rehab in another state, I realized I needed to be in a sober community for a long period of time if I was going to stay sober this time. I have tried for 10 years to get 1 complete year sober. Now I have 3 years clean and sober, thanks to the Boca House, they saved my life.
I currently live at Boca House and have been clean for the past 7 months. Stayed clean the whole time and love the staff. All these negative reviews are rediculous. Perfect example of how i know that..my roomate a month ago relapsed and was asked to leave the property leaving he was cursing at everyone and threatening to post a bunch of bad reviews about this place. I guarantee some of this nonsense is from people just like him. Its unfortunate. I love it here. Period.
My husband had just completed a 30 day inpatient drug rehab for the 4th time. This time we decided he needed to continue in a lower cost sober living home before he came home. He stayed at Boca for 6 months. He is sober today and I am grateful for how they have helped him. Now he has sober friends, goes to meetings and lives without drugs or alcohol.
??? – wow i am really upset right now. my dad is actually on a plane to this place as we speak. and i really hope it is what they say it is. both from the conversation on the phone and the web site. if its not i hope you have a really great lawyer. believe you, me.... i really dont know what to think right now i am heated. and forget about me telling my mom what i just read she is going to be worried sick. lets just see..
My brother needed this – My brother had a huge sense of entitlement like most addicts and alcoholics do. He did not want to follow rules and thought the world owed him a living. Still living at home with his mother at 43 (who is super codependent), he has never paid rent or had his own phone bill. Keep in mind he is totally capable to do these things, he just chose not to. He went to Boca House and was not allowed to manipulate the owner or the staff, and completed the program after 5 months. He is a different man today. I thank Boca House for the tough love that he needed to become a functioning sober member of society. He is happy and on his own today.
