Not Taqueria Anymore – I moved away from the Tampa area about 12 years ago, but I'd always make a point of going to this place on trips back, even when they changed to just Taqueria. Now it's no longer using that name and goes by Mateo's, and even though the menu is similar, the food is not up to par. First of all, they don't have the good beer selection that they used to have before changing hands. The food is also not as good, and is a lot more expensive. For around $12.50, you only get a small quesadilla with meat and beans, chips and salsa (which was advertised as $2 but they still charged $4), and a drink. The quesadilla was built about the same as how Taqueria used to make them, but te meat wasn't as flavorful. The restaurant also has none of the ambiance of the original, trying to be a sit down place rather than the counter service place it used to be. I won't be returning to this place again on future trips.
What part of mexico is this food from..Exactly. – .Let me start by saying something good about this place. First, the beer selection is great. They have a lot of personal favorites that other places don?t carry. Second, the place looks cool. They have a great patio and a nice atmosphere. Now, the warning? We have had Mexican food all over this country. In quite a few places in Mexico too. Ranging from street stands pitching tacos to restaurants in large city?s. We aren?t experts but, we definitely aren?t passing judgment from no experience either.
Ok, the food is on par with the worst we?ve ever had, mexican or not. It tasted like they marinated their beef in Prego spaghetti sauce and cilantro. No self respecting Mexican we know (and we have met a few) would serve the most basic sides of beans and rice and let them taste like that. Honestly, we each had one bite of everything we ordered and looked at each other like...are they really expecting us to believe that a meal that tastes like this wrapped in foil on a paper plate is worth $30 bucks? I threw mine away and finished my beer. My wife, finished her beer and gave her plate away to a guy that was bumming change from the sidewalk. This place makes Taco Bell seem like culinary geniuses. Yeah, salad in a tortilla. Great. Nothing goes with tortillas like Caesar dressing.
Great Mexican fast food – I got the pulled pork, which was absolutely delicious. What I liked was the meat was very tender, but not salty. My friend got the burrito and thought he could eat just half, but loved it so much that he ate it all. I would definitely go back to this place again.
Great food & great people – The food is excellent mexican and the people who work there are always friendly. If you get the question of the day right then you get a basket of free chips, it's a fun little activity.
Great food, Great environment – I have made Taqueri a regular lunch or dinner stop for the past three years. The food is great love the spinach queso!! It's a fun little local place, with a great attentive staff. As far as the price-- you get more than your moneys work, don't be surprised if you need a to go box!
Great – Parking is vastly improved. New parking lot is plenty big. Food is the best Mexican in the Tampa Bay Area.
Forget about heading south of the border--take a spin over to South Howard for some delicious (and fast) Mexcian.
– Livin' La Vida Loca
Did you ever wish there was an alternative to fast Mexican food that had a little more variety, was a little heartier, but almost as quick? There's no need to head south of the border, just look to Taqueria Quetzalcoatl, where the motto is "Make your mouth go crazy!"
Taqueria Quetzalcoatl's menu features basic burritos as big as your head--and they're not kidding. They come standard with rice, salsa, and beans, but you can also order yours with chicken, steak or grilled veggies. Less-than-basic burritos include fillings like Caesar salad, popcorn shrimp, and fresh fish. The menu also offers soft tacos, salads, quesadillas and Taqueria Quetzalcoatl sombreros--fresh corn masa puffed in corn oil and topped with pork, black beans, cheddar cheese, sour cream and salsa. Knowing there's one gringo in every crowd, Taqueria Quetzalcoatl conveniently added a barbecue chicken sandwich to please the whiner in your dinner group.
Yo quiero TQ's! – Bueno on the tacos! Great Mexican food. The nicest staff ever! Even have a "Question of the Day"- if you get it right you get free chips and salsa- that is definitely a good reason to study. Aye Carramba this is good Mexican!
Great fast Mexican food – This is the best place for Mexican fast food. If you like Taco Bell/Don Pablos, don't bother, you obviously don't have any taste buds. Taqueria's food is awesome. We regularly travel the 25 miles from our home in Largo to Hyde Park to satisfy our cravings for their Super Burritos and Quesadillas
