A treasure chest – I am so happy to have found Gaslight Antiques. Although I'm a FL resident, I hadn't made many trips to Tampa. This past week I had the luxury of attending a conference here, and decided to spend my time off work antiquing - and how glad I am I did!

I found the right place! Gaslight has the best selection of furniture and collectibles, and the owners make you feel very welcome. They are also able to provide so much knowledge about such a variety of items - definitely a walk through the past. I am anxious to return to Tampa solely to go back to this great store. Highly recommended!

QUALITY! – If only all antique stores were like Gaslight! This is an antique store that has REAL antiques... High Quality. All 100+ year antiques.. This is the only antique store that has made it in Tampa & I can see why. The owners are very knowledgeable with the history of every antique in the store. If you are a person seeking real wood, true antiques such as mission furniture, victorian furniture, antique lighting, & one of a kind unique finds, Gaslight Antiques is where you should go.

Rip Off / Scam Artist! – This place has been around forever- I dont know how they stay in buisness. We brought in two beautiful lamps for appraisal. She told us they were the ugliest things she has ever seen and to donate them. These lamps were found in a wall of a very old building in Hyde Park. They were purposely sealed into the wall. We opened the wall thinking it was the water heater to find these unique lamps. They are hand painted, made in Italy, 3ft, ornate lamps. Long story short- she told us if we got $20 we were lucky.

We took them to another antique dealer and got $150. The woman knew exactly what they were and had sold lamps just like them at her store for a few hundrew a piece.

DONT TAKE YOUR ANTIQUE COLLECTABLES HERE. They are:

1) Over Priced

2) They don't know how to appraise

3) If they don't have a clue of the value- they tell you something unproffessional like "Those are ugly- they aren't worth anything". Instead of saying "I'm sorry, I'm ignorant when it comes to 40's and 50's collectables"

*As with all art- beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

SHOP AROUND BEFORE YOU BUY OR SELL HERE!

Great selection – I stopped in Gaslight a couple days ago and was pleasantly surprised. I needed a desk and chair to complete my home office and figured I'd stop in. I am so glad I did. At first I was tempted to go to office depot or something of that nature, but the owner of Gaslight rightfully opened my eyes. I was much smarter putting a beautiful antique desk and chair in my office that will appreciate with time, rather than something that will need to be replaced in a few years. The staff here was very helpful and informative, telling me all they could about the history of the pieces I was interested in. I'll definitely return when I need another beautiful item for my home... or perhaps just to indulge in the wonderful variety this place has to offer.

Wonderful place – This place is fabulous! I think we can all appreciate a store like this. So many antique malls these days are filled with modern and contemporary items, making you wonder why they are allowed to be called antique stores at all. Gaslight was just the opposite! This store had piece after piece of exquisite and ornate furniture, as well as lighting/lamps that are out of this world. The owners are very knowledgeable about every item, and I will definitely be returning on my next trip to Tampa. If you are ever in the area, I would highly recommend stopping by. There's a little something for every taste.

Best in Florida – This store is absolutely beautiful. They have 3 galleries divided up between office furniture & home furnishings. I was shocked to see that they even separated the stores with different types of woods. I became real friendly with the owners (they started it 30 years ago!). They were very informative and knew the history about every piece of furniture. Tons of pottery & art glass!! I absolutely love this store & want everything in it. No other store like in Tampa or Florida for that matter.

Just terrible – Unless you get your jollies from squeezing through teeny rooms overcrowded with psuedo-antique furniture and putting up with what has to be THE rudest A**hole of a proprietor you've ever had the displeasure of meeting, don't bother. The shops are depressing and so dark you wonder what he's hiding. The furniture is boring and uninspired, mostly oak (snore) and priced at about 3 times the value, especially in today's market. This company has been in the area for some time now and once had a great reputation for quality, but no more. And judging from the shopkeeper's snotty attitude, he's unhappy about business. Although one would think he would welcome his customers with opened arms. Instead he makes people feel like they are intruding on his day. It was pouring rain the day we went and as soon as we entered his store, I closed and clutched my umbrella against my leg to keep it from dripping anywhere. That wasn't good enough. This man flies over and tells us in a most sarcastic tone that he has all real wood furniture and doesn't want it damaged with drops from my umbrella. Oh really? You have REAL wood? Wow! He interrupted me while I was in the process of showing an item I had an interest in to my husband to share this tidbit of wisdom with me. That erased my interest in that item or anything else he may have had hidden there in his dark store. Anyone with one iota of business sense would be able to tell by my demeanor and the way I was hugging the umbrella allowing it to soak my pant leg to prevent getting any water on his precious oak furniture that I was a careful and considerate shopper. Don't bother to welcome me into the store or ask me if you can take my umbrella. Oh no, that would be too proper. Instead, tell me how water might dot your furniture and make sure you interrupt me admiring an item so that you can positively not make a sale this day. A nice antique umbrella store at the entry would work wonders if they bother you that much. It is Florida and it does rain every day. Oh, and don't bother going there if you have children either unless they don't mind being glared at. One poor family stopped their browsing quite quickly and chose to go stand outside waiting for the rain to stop so they could leave. They told us he made them so uncomfortable because he was obviously unhappy they brought in their little girl - a darling little thing who was too small to do any damage and as sweet as can be. The only fun you'll have at this shop is laughing at his ridulous prices, but really you have better things to do. Try the shops in Sarasota and Bradenton for your antiques. Oh, and St. Petersburg has a couple of absolutely marvelous shops with such interesting items, not just oak furniture. Gag. My husband and I fill our days looking for antiques for our home. We will never darken the doors of this already too dark and pitiful has-been establishment again. In this economy, we'll give our money to someone who is nice and deserves to do well.
