Trim that turned out to be a Horrible Cut! – I went into the salon on a thursday evening around 4 pm. I asked if the stylist can put a relaxer in my 13 year old daughters hair. The stylist agreed. I left my daughter at the salon because the service would take 4 hrs long. When I came back at 7pm my daughter was under the dryer. The stylist brought my daughter to the chair to remove the rollers. I asked the (shampoo lady) who is a stylist now if I can pay. The stylist-shampoo lady asked me if I wanted her ends trim. I replied yes. The relaxer plus trim came out to $70.00 I even tiped her $10.00. The hair was flat Ironed very well. The following day my daughter had a school competition. I noticed her poor trim turned out to be a HORRIBLE Cut! I was upset. i called the salon to speak to Carmen. I went back to the salon to show what was done. The stylist who did the poor job kept trying to justify the reason for the cut. I said trim she cut. Everyone was lying. I came just to show the horrible work. I dont want my money, or work done on my daughters hair I just want everyone to know they are unprofessional. Jc pennys and Shampoo Me are better salons.

Not the Besy – Coming out of New York I know good Dominican Salons when I see them. Although they aren't the best I've ever been to. They are the best I've been to in the Brandon Area. They don't use any other methods that I haven't seen used up North. They wash and set my hair and put rollers. To the girl who had something negative to say about them, they're nice women. I'm mixed dutch guyanese and brazilian my family speaks portuguese and dutch but I've learned Spanish to help accommodate me when I need to get sh*t done in Florida, maybe you wanna do the same.

I love this place – I am Newyorican and when I came here I could not find someone to do my hair. I moved to Riverview and saw this place and was happy with the way they do your hair. It's true you have to wait but is because it is walk in first come first serve so it takes a while.

I have not had any problems with my hairstylist. She does reallly good with your hair and they make sure you are happy with the results...Can't complain at all

Dissapointed! – I lived in DR for a couple of years, and I know DR Salons are well known for their attention and great work, but THIS IS NOT THE CASE!

I just did my hair (cut and blowdry), and I DO NOT like the result at all! I have fine soft curled hair, a very easy hair to style...BUT the haircut came out UNEVEN!!!

I told the lady that it was uneven and she said it was just fine! I knew something was wrong when she started telling me do not move or the haircut will be spoiled!!! C'mon!!!! however that has a little bit of experience will just cut your hair without telling you this nonsense!!!

Anyways... now I have to look for a new salon to REPAIR what E&J Hair Salon has done.

Hope this review is helpful.

HOT AIR DRY?? DISCRIMINATION?? – I was reading these reviews and one that got my attention was discrimination..she wrote in her experience that she wanted to "hot air dry" her naps...no c'mon..you know you can't hot air dry...sista you need your rollers set in cause natural or permed you can't hot air dry that hair. I have been here pelently of times and have been doing my naps with dominicans in New York and here. I found that when a PROFESSIONAL tells me to do rollers and not hot air dry it is for a reason...rollers is a healthier way of drying your hair..I think if you know so much about hair then you should be doing your own ma...I have never experienced discrimination at this salon..in fact the owners husband and darker than mine...STOP PLAYIN THE RACE CARD!!! YOUR HAIR CANNOT BE AIR DRIED!!! THAT IS NOT DISCRIMINATION!!

The Best Hairstylist I've gone to yet! – I have been in Florida going on 7 years now and moved into the Brandon area 2 years ago. I was going to a hairstylist in Lakeland because I couldn't trust anyone to do my type of hair the way I am use to having it. I am originally from Chicago and was use to the bone straight look and shine that my hairstylist would give me. After walking out of E&J I had a different opinion from the one I had walking in and waiting to get my hair done. The reason you have such a long wait is because we are letting obssessive compulsive hairstylist do our hair, which in this case is AWESOME! they don't rush, they make sure all your hair is even and straight, if this is what you want. They do not let you walk out unless they are satisfied with their masterpiece. Now, to comment on Vogue52k's post, I am PuertoRican and have the same type of hair you have, naturally curly and coarse hair and when I walked into the place that was all you saw. And, every woman there came out with a BIG smile on their face. I dont know which salon you went to but, E&J doesn't sound like the salon you described. To lener313, I guess you will be the talk of the salon because when I was there they were talking about some girl from NY coming in with an attitude almost commenting the same thing you desribed in this post. I think you misunderstood what they were saying, if this is the same person, they don't charge extra for the little things like washing and putting you under the dryer with hair rollers and blow drying your hair. If the attitude was put aside maybe you would have understood or even heard exactly what they were saying. I understand you though, because when I first called to find out the prices the woman that answered had confused me too. I would let you know, my hair was down the middle of my back, inches away from my butt. I wanted it washed, cut and styled. They washed my hair, put rollers and set me under the dryer and cut and styled and blow dryed my hair and wasn't let go until all the hairs were in its place, all this for $40.00. who could ask for anything more? they are the greatest yet! Sorry if you ladies had a bad experience with them but you have to understand you are trying to tell a Dominican who really doesn't understand English other than wash, cut, dry, style. I believe if we want our hair done by them and we are walking into THEIR domain, we need to learn how to ask them and put all attitudes aside. They are a bunch of good women working there. In fact, I am going there today to get Kreatine put on my hair so that I can have that wash and go hair I always wanted.

RACIST – I created an account just to tell black women not to go to this salon. The first dominican salon I went to was in New York. I Ioved it. It was fast and cheap. And my hair looked great. I started going here and they charged me extra to do my hair (and I have a perm). Plus they acted like they didn't want to do my hair when I came in. My friend girl had the same problem. I love Dominican Salon my hair is so long now. But i will never go here again.

Discrimination – I am an African American women with natural hair and I asked the owner if she would wash and hot air dry my hair. She immediately told me that we don't do that ... we don't do that type of hair. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but Dominicans descended from AFRICA. Most "black" dominican hair is naturally curly or the derogatory term, "nappy". The "white" dominicans can thank Spanish colonization for their straighter curls.

I was horrified by her comments and had to find a Dominican lady (on Waters Ave) who was willing to straighten my hair. In New York, Dominican shops have a high African American Clientele. Dominicans are pros at straightening curly hair ... perhaps to eliminate the stigma that anything "black" is bad or bad hair is bad. E&J has lost a lot of business and many of the women that used to get relaxers from them are GOING NATURAL.

If you are going to operate a business in the USA (in order to make money), you need to service all clients and not just those that want relaxers!

The economy is bad now so perhaps they are willing to realize that all money is the same color: GREEN!
