Do not take anyone you care about to HOF hospital. We took my elderly dad in with fever and chills, they kept him 5 days, refused to give a diagnosis beyond, "He has a virus" never would answer our questions or tell us anything about his treatment. Refused to sign him out when we couldn't take it any longer, so we took him anyways and they called DCF, and the sheriff on us and tried to force my dad into a nursing home by saying he and my mother were both incompetent for leaving the hospital.
They refused him a wheelchair to get to the car and threatened to refuse treatment should he collapse on the way out.
He made it home, went to his own Dr. in Orlando and has none of the problems he was being treated for. Most of the nurses tried to help as well as give us information from his chart, but the Dr.'s forget them they are rude, and condescending acting like they have absolute power over you and don't you dare ask questions.
A baby got finger cut off with scissors by a nurse that was taking off a bandage. Another kid was overdosed with meds and will never run a play again. Someone went in for a seizure and was never monitored but given a pill that made her sick and tired. If you want to survive don't go to The Heart Of Florida Hospital. Just Google this hospital and you will find so much more bad news from this hospital then any other one.
STAY AWAY from this place...These are my experiences: Emergency room personnel (check in) are condescending and rude...smart asses...My son was MISDIAGNOSED by the doctor...doctor said colonitis...apparently he did not noticed the two big cycst he had...they were obviuos.... It took me (an untrained eye), to diagnose my son....My wife was admitted...Bathroom flooded everytime she took a shower....we were there for 6 days and noone ever came to check it...Told the staff 3 times about it....Desk personnel in the hallway don't want to hear anything from you...you are interrupting their TV show....Bed nurses are mediocre at best...ONE EXCEPTION: Male nurse from Texas...he was great...I could tell he came here from another state...
On the moth of April 2012 I was taken to the Heart of Florida Hospital because of a extreme pain. Immediately I arrive I was being treated, given medicine for my pain and made studies. Less than 1 hour I had been admitted because of my complicated illness. I was amazed with all the staff of the Hospital, I really started taken every good Nurse, Technician and Doctor who were treating me but finally I stopped making a list because I found that every one in The Heart of Florida Hospital were so excellent and worried on my health I just need to let anybody who visit this Hospital how professional, excellent and 5 Star Rate they have. After feeling better the next day I really did'nt felt I was at a Hospital this was more like a Hotel stay. Everythin I mean everythin g was superb , even the food, I have been on the Boston General Mass Hospital which I believed was one or the best Hospital on United States but since then Heart of Florida is Top of the Line. You feel yourself in family. Each and every member knew what a patient care priority mean. Best wishes to all the staff . I will always remember you
This hospital almost killed my son – I took my son to this hospital in Jan 2011. He was 6 and he was having his first asmtha attach. I didnt know what it was...all I knew is that my child couldnt breathe. It is teriifying!!!!!
The ER doctor immediately released us saying that he had a chest cold. I couldnt believe it. We went home and sat and in the shower hoping the steam would clear his chest. My husband checked the WebMD and realized he was having a asthma attach.
I called the our pediatrian and he recommended going to Lakeland Regional for treatment because he too didnt recommend the Heartless of Florida. I litterally live 1 mile away so I went back to the same hospital only because it was closer. The ER doctor this time gave him a steriod shot and immediatley my son could breathe. He suffered for 10 hours because the first ER doctor could not have cared less.
There are more detailes but the fact is..... DO NOT TAKE ANY LOVED ONES THIS HOSPITAL!!!!
I thank God my son is OK now and I hope this story will help someone else.
This is the worst hospital ever. The nurses do not care about their patients. My mother's condition has gotten worse since being admitted into this hospital. They do not give her her breathing treatments. The fluid on her lungs has start to find its way to her heart. I am afraid that if she stays in this hospital that she is going to die. Do not ever take a loved one to this hospital for treatment.
Only come if you must! – I wrote a review on Google about this place but after seeing the reviews here I felt compelled to share as well. I have only been in two hospitals for overnight stays -- one being in Brandon and the other here. I'd much rather have ended up in Brandon for this!
- My doctor (Dr. San Martin) is AWESOME. I know a lot of good doctors are associated with this hospital. He is patient and very knowledgeable.
- About half of the staff you come into contact with is polite and caring. Out of my entire 4 day stay, I had 3 very sweet nurses; one in the ER, one in my room and one that came to take some blood. And that leads me to the rest of the people here...
- Staff (nurses, room service)The majority of the staff I dealt with was pretty rude and condescending. A few like the aforementioned were good but the rest of them were callous and smart asses. I was having a major inpatient operation...of course I am going to ask questions you've probably heard a million times before. This does not mean you have to be a jerk to me! They really acted like they did not want to be there. Maybe HoF needs new scheduling policies to relieve these people of their stress! It can't be good for them or the patients.
- The food is HORRIBLE. I know it's kind of expected but the food in Brandon was excellent. I'd eat there if I was driving by and hungry! But if you're here for 3-4 days, you'll want something with a little bit more taste I'm sure.
So mostly my review is right on par with everyone else's. Avoid this place if you can!
Great Hospital – I've been to this hospital on many occasions and I absolutely love the place.
I had a baby there in September 2008 by C-Section. Not only were they extremely nice to me, they went above and beyond and treated me like a queen and my newborn like a king.
In December 2008, I took my 9 year old daughter there because the doctor feared she had spinal meningitis (which she did not, thank God). They treated her like gold, and made her very comfortable. She went in scared, but they eased her fears.
Just a few weeks ago, I took my 14 year old son there, walked into the Emergency Room. He was in extreme pain. Turned out he had a kidney stone. Not only did they immediately take him back before I even filled out any papers, but they made him comfortable and eased the pain until they found out the problem, which didn't take long at all. We were in and out of there in just a couple of hours, even with all the x-rays, meds, IV's, etc.
Love the place, and I'll continue to go there and take my children there. They are awesome with kids.
Where To Start? – Well, I'm not sure if I should mention the time my wife's pearl earing mysteriouly disappeared when having a CT scan, or the time we brought our nephew in with a dislocated shoulder and the ER doc said "Sure I can fix that, let me go google it, I'll be right back"
Lock up your valuables and Run for your life.
NO BS this really happened.
FORGET HEART OF FLORIDA HOSPITAL – Last evening I phoned this hospital in a emergency, to find out if a cardiologist was on duty or on call. I was left on hold 27 minutes when someone picked up the phone, giggled and hung up. All this time, my condition was getting worse and worse. When a neighbor, a nurse came to my home, she said that was not uncommon for this hospital and recommended that I go immediately to one in a nearby city. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!
