You can feel good taking your pets here – I highly recommend Clairmont Animal Hospital and specifically, Dr. Hiro Iwamoto. Dr. Hiro (that's what we call him) is extremely caring, recommends reasonable tests, keeping finances in mind, and gives your pet amazing care. The Technicians at Clairmont are also very well trained and knowledgeable, as well as personable and compassionate. Finally, Clairmont is open 7 days a week, and the Drs. and Staff do not leave at night until they have done all they need to do for your pet.
I have been there many times with my big dog, Beau, my cats and a few foster pets. Dr. Hiro always tells me my options and makes confident recommendations for care. I NEVER leave wondering about anything; all of my questions and concerns are answered immediately.
Most recently, Beau got an intestinal obstruction that required surgery. Dr. Hiro jumped through hoops to get the ultrasound done and the surgery scheduled right away - basically saved my dog's life. He also made sure that EVERYONE at the clinic knew about Beau's situation, so if we called or they saw Beau, they would know exactly what was going on. When I would call the front desk, the staff member would say, "Oh, Beau? Yes, let me get Dr. Hiro right way." or "Dr. Hiro's out today, but Dr. Desai knows about Beau's situation and can help you right away."
Unfortunately Beau had a few complications, so Dr. Hiro recommended us onto a specialist, which was absolutely the right call. However, by no means did this mean Dr. Hiro had handed off our case. He called me and the specialist throughout the weekend (he was not even on duty) to check up on Beau and make sure he was getting the care he needed. I am happy to report that Beau is healing nicely thanks to the great care and attention of Dr. Hiro and Clairmont Animal Hospital.
Dr. Kelly Crawford is amazing – We have a nine-year-old boxer who was a rescue named Val. The day after our honeymoon we found a lump on her that turned out to be a mast cell tumor. A friend told me to go to Emory and I'm so glad we did. Dr. Crawford immediately took Val into surgery and removed the tumor on her leg. The surgery went beautifully and Dr. Crawford had such a great manner not only with Val but with my husband and I as well. She was knowledgeable and explains things well. We then took our dog to an oncologist just to get a specialist's opinion on further treatment, and the oncologist complimented how well Dr. Crawford did on the tumor removal with words like "It really looks like they know what they're doing", which totally put my mind at ease. Dr. Crawford was also eager to work with whatever findings the oncologist suggested. She just wanted to provide the best care for Val.
Val's leg healed perfectly and we have since moved to California. I have called Dr. Crawford a couple of times with concerns since we don't have a vet out here yet that I'm completely comfortable with, and she always calls back right away and spends as much time on the phone as needed. My husband and I wish we could bring her out here with us, and needless to say I highly recommend her care for any pet!
Variable quality of care – nice practice... but I found some doctors to be better than others. Katz seemed kind and caring with my cat, but there was another vet who contradicted herself and left me confused
Best Vet in Atlanta – Dr. Smith is absolutely wonderful! He and his staff are the best and always remember my little Boston Terrier when I bring her in. Not only do they remember her - they come out in the lobby just to say "hi" no matter what we are in for. We Love Dr. Smith - but I would also say that there are several other doctors in the practice who are also great if you can't get in to see Dr. Smith (who has a very limited schedule). He has done throat surgery on our dog, and gave complete estimate before the surgery - called me just after the surgery to let me know how it went, and then called again when the puppy woke up. Frankly, I wish I could find a people doctor who was half as good as Dr. Smith. My sister has 3 dogs and they all go to Dr. Smith - and have had the same experience.
Exceptional Care – I've owned kitties for over 25 years so I've kind of seen it all in terms of health problems and how vets deal with them. The group at Clairmont is without a doubt the most knowledgeable and kindest group of people I've ever encountered. The three vets I've talked to, Prather, Katz and George have all been razor sharp. These people know their stuff. They are aggressive in their treatment but at the same time very sensitive to the age of the cat, the wishes of the owner and the cost. I really can't say enough nice things. The front desk staff is also exceptionally kind and concerned. As recent arrivals to Atlanta, getting a good vet for our two old kitties was high on the list. We feel very fortunate to have found this group.
An excellent animal hospital – The care here is really great - I've been taking my cats here for 6 years. They have a very caring group of 5-6 vets and numerous wonderful technicians. They are very knowledgeable about the latest developments in their field, take a real interest in each pet, and their fees are reasonable - I don't feel taken advantage of. I recommend them without reservation.
Uncaring Staff – I took my dog to for an emergency bladder surgery. I was not told the cost of the surgery when I dropped her off, but was told by Dr. Smith that he would call and give me an estimate before he started the surgery; however, I wasnt told what the total cost was until after the surgery was completed. It came out to $1,200 plus dollars. The actual surgery was only $500, but I was charged over $700 in other expenses. I paid half the bill($600), but they refused to release my dog, and refused to provide explanation on the additional expenses of the bill. I was told by the receptionist that they were going to keep my dog until I paid, and that she wasn't going to loss her job over this, so there was nothing she was willing to do to help me.
