Not so bad – Decent food, ok atmosphere they should add more funky Mexican art - I've always had good, attentive service. It's perfect for a large group.

LOUSY! – Stay away from this place. There are much better Mexican restaurants nearby. The food was atrocious, the atmosphere is terrible, and our server was decidedly non-attentive when it was clear we wouldn't be ordering drinks. I've given this place 2 chances now, and they won't get a third. I don't know how restaurants like that can stay in business. I love hole in the wall Mexican places that are charming with good food, but Mexico City Gourmet fails miserably on all levels. We were at our table for more than 35 minutes before our order was even taken, and the place was not even half full. The experience makes me question whether the positive reviews are legitimate or the owners decided to give themselves an undeserved pat on the back.

Badly overrated and always disappointing. – I've given this restaurant 3 tries and struck out every time. The food is just....bad. The menu is pretentious but can't deliver. To add insult to injury, the last time I was there I asked for an extra cup of salsa to liven up a very bland dish and they charged me $1.25. For salsa (not chips)!! There are 2 rooms in this restaurant, the first with a mariachi band and the other with a TV going. They stuck me in there the last time - I guess because I was a solo diner - and between the TV blasting and a woman at the next table having a loud cell phone conversation I asked to be moved to the mariachi room. The staff seemed pretty uncomfortable with this but did move me. (Although I was alone, I was nicely dressed, honest!) Much of the wait staff were American - which always makes me a little leery in a Mexican restaurant in a city where there are lots of Mexican waiters available. And finally, their ad in Savvy Shopper says they were "Best of City Search 2005 - 2007." Well, I just looked at the 2007 list and they're not on it. For good reason! So they not only have bad food, they lie. Don't bother with this place. Try El Azteca, or even better try Nuevo Laredo.

Decent Mexican food - great staff – I can't say that I've found really great Mexican food in Atlanta, but I lived in Southern CA for many years so my standards are pretty high I guess. That said, I do like Mexico City Gourmet. They make a good escabeche (shrimp & scallops - lots of jalapena; very spicy) and their margaritas, especially the Perfect Margarita, are good and large. Mostly I like the people that work there - they seem to care and the service is always attentive. So even if a lot of the menu of basic, there's a comfort level in going there, or at least there is for me, so I keep Mexico City Gourmet on my rotation when I'm in the mood for that type of food and atmosphere.

Nacho Cheese Nightmare – I've tried mexico city several times, but I am continually unimpressed by the food quality. I ordered cheese dip, and what I received was a bowl of gross, yellow nacho cheese. It was disgusting. I ordered a taco and enchilada combo, and much to my dismay, the enchilada and refried beans were covered in the same generic nacho cheese. The rice they serve has a sweet taste to it that is BAD! It's unfortunate that the food is perpetually disappointing because the restaurant itself is nicely decorated, and the service is fast and attentive.

User review by larod0112 – Lots of love, care, and effort put into every bite. Friendly staff, very clean. My personal favorite is a toss up, enchiladas or fajitas, you can't go wrong! Great dining, music, or just the best margaritas in town! Two BIG thumbs up!

Mexican restaurant heats up on weekends with entertainment and affordable fare. – The Scene
Arts and crafts twinkle on light yellow walls at this Emory-area institution where friendly servers efficiently accommodate patrons dining beneath exposed brick arches. Traditional guitar and keyboard-accompanied ballads entertain larger crowds on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Food
Poblano chiles relleno (when in season) and hearty chicken mole are a couple of the best dishes on this Mexican menu. Salsa is typically mild; the guacamole could use a dash more of seasoning. Jalapeno pinto bean soup has a smoky fullness from bacon, but little bite. Vegetarian Georgia burrito and enchilada lunch specials bulge with vegetables, while Veracruz red snapper gets lost under a heap of jalapenos, olives, capers and onions. For dessert, the caramel-drizzled flan is a sleekly molded indulgence.
