I would not feed a dog what they feed me,it was chicken breast sliced very dry and old and gross. I was up all night with food poison. Do not ever eat at this place.
Barbeque Does not get any better than Old South – If you really want barbeque then the place to go is Old South. From the minute you get out of your car the aroma just takes you over. When you open the door you are Welcomed as an old friend by Joy. The brunswick stew is the very best you will ever have. When we visit my sister in Florida we have to take her Brunswick stew. The portions are large so expect to take some home with you. All you need to do is try it once and you will be a regular!
Great Barbeque – This is my favorite barbeque joint on the west side of Atlanta. Why that's where I live. I been in Atlanta for 12 years, and have eaten at many places that serve barbeque, most with better decor. Its decor gives it that folksy feel, some it may make run out the door. Some of the side items are just so so, but if you like barbeque, Old South is the joint. Sometimes I just get the barbeque sandwich to go. Sure it costs more than a Big Mac, but it tastes a lot better and probably won't kill you as fast :-) Try them out...
Pros: Large variety of BBQ sauces, Friendly
Cons: Small parking lot
Excellent BBQ! – This little family owned and operated BBQ cabin has the best tasting BBQ I have ever eaten. Simple, quality BBQ with a taste that makes me want to drive the four hours just to visit. I have eaten alot of BBQ and Old Souths is just simple and good. No overpowering sauces or spices just pork that stands on its own flavor. The prices are a little high and portions could be a bit larger - but the taste is spot on. The place is not fancy and has stood the test of time but after all I am there for the food not the frills. I had the pulled BBQ pork sandwich that was excellent. Definitely worth the off the beaten path drive from the interstate - your mouth will thank you.
Top 10 BBQ Places in America – An Atlanta Institution. When you look up the word consistency in the dictionary they should have a picture of Old South. We have been eating here since the 70's and have never had a bad experience here. The pork and beef are outstanding, with just the right amount of hickory flavor. You can have them chopped, sliced or pulled. The sandwiches are great and you can even have them on their garlic toast. Sides include the Best Brunswick Stew anywhere, Coleslaw with a non-mayo dressing, delicious BBQ beans, fried okra, seasoned green beans and excellent Sweet Ice Tea. Family owned & operated with True Southern Hospitality. If you're from the south and you love BBQ it worth the drive to Smyrna.
Expensive awful food from a can! – This place is a joke with owners laughing all the way to the bank, I'm sure. Folksy BBQ joint feel is merely a stage-set for simply awful dining. The real shame is that the BBQ isn't bad, though I saw them trasfer the pulled from a plastic storage bag to an aluminum tray for service from the kitchen. And the sauces are all vinegar-based, really not many people's favorite, right? No disrespect to Memphis. But the SIDES OMGosh! Owner admitted green beans are straight from a can, and while claiming that they gussy-up the "BBQ baked beans" they taste like cheap straight-from-the-can beans. Owner stated they do not make the potato salad. Coleslaw without mayonnaise or dressing (!) is, basically, $2 for a tiny bowl of shreaded cabbage. Hush puppies only so-so. The onion rings are so-so, not bad.
I've been there twice, to give them a chance, and both times I was, as a paying diner, really completely insulted. This is food I wouldn't eat at home, leave alone pay pretty high restaurant prices for.
They're getting by on their a-hug-for-every-customer gimmick. I'm not buying. And there's a little sign posted on the cash register (appropriate location for it) about how you don't get a hug at Williamson Brothers. OMGosh! Dissing the finest BBQ joint in the state!
good by great. Friendly staff. Some too friendly. Don't go i – Good not great. Friendly staff in fact a little too friendly. Don't go if bieng hugged by a stranger bothers you. It is not the citys best but it is good.
Best stew anywhere!!! – Great bar b que. I remember waiting for an hour for a table years ago when there were not as many resteraunts around, Now you usually can walk in and sit down and get full of the best que around. Must have is the brunswick stew!!! Great tea, also!
Great southern BBQ!!! – The food is great!!! Well, what I really love about this place is the lovely Joy. She's an exquisite beauty... if only she didn't have a boyfriend! Darn! Well, try the the food anyway, it's some of the best!!!
(Gave her a rose...)
Best in the west (side) – Old South is a small out of the way place off Windy Hill Road. The food is absolutely terrific, the prices cheap and the waitressess charming. Finally the search for the perfect BBQ place is over. Forget the big name guys and come check out this place!!
