I went to pep boys fallbrook woodland hills for an oil change. the next day i found an oil leak in my car, so i brought the car to them for a back job after a few hours they told me it needs to replace the whole housing (????), wtf .. no problem with the car for 5 years even after its oil change, no leak, or whatsoever, i should not take my car on this place...plsssss for those who needs service for their car plssssssssssss dont bring your car here or any pep boys.. check first ..go online for complaints & reviews b-4 you bring your car here ...i should take my friends advise not to bring my car here....
Pep Boys has been good to me. They do charge top dollar though. I recently had a leaking gas tank that started leaking on the 19th of Sept. 2012. I took it to Pep Boys and told them that the gas tank was leaking. After $160 and three weeks of waiting, they told me that they could not find a gas tank for my 1987 Dodge Dakota. I will donate it to Casa Esperanza and see what it fetches at auction. They did apologize and were very courteous. BTW, my wife had a flat tire in her 2001 Buick Regal LS and since they had sold me four tires a few years ago, they fixed the flat for free two weeks before the leaking fuel tank.
If they didn't charge for labor they wouldn't stay in business. It is seemingly harsh but the alternative is to fix it yourself and maybe have the car fall on you.
RUINED MY CAR – I went to pep boys for an oil change. I asked for them to top off all fluids including my break fluid. The person who worked on my car put regular oil in my my brake fluid. Now my car is wrecked.
Has anyone tried to sue them?
starter chaneged at pep boys fire and smoke at start up – today i took my 2003 ford explorer 4.6 v8 to pep boys fallbrock woodland hills to change my oil and filter and starter after 4 hours waiting and paying $200 labor and $159 part starter total $359 i came to pick up my car the mechanic mariano minero start my car all sudden the car lights went crazy smoke coming from engine my odometer lights and interior lights went crazy i asked him what happened he was shocked telling me the engine has shortage let me fix it again , another 30 min work removing starter again this time when he start my car he said wire is bad , then many try to start the car smoke coming and lights going crazy, he told me engine blown out, i call the manager mike he told me it will cost me 1800 just to look in to my car , and its cam just got locked , he said park you car come back next day, i went to lock my car but the lights did not turn off , finally the mechanic removed battery positive head to turn the car lights, i wish i never take my car to pep boys, my car was running good day before and it did not start today sometimes starter made click click noise but it would start , today they killed it and i could see the harness going to battery all burned and smoked. the manager mike told me once elcterical and then without checking the car told me engine got stock with starter then last word was engine blown out, the mechanic told me its the battery, and starter, are bad,
B.S after B.S they try to get raid of me telling me tow you car engine is dead,
my question was if my engine was dead why did you changed oil and filter, and if the engine was bad why did they change my starter , its all comes to money and dishonesty.

iam going to take cold shower after walling home with no car and whole in my wallet it is my first and last visit to moe and many, and joe three stooges
Will Go Over Estimate w/o Permission – This is the second time I have used this Pep Boys and the second time they have gone over a phone estimate without my permission.
This time I took my car for an oil change and two tires. I was told a price -- I said it was too high. Pep Boys called me back and said tires were on sale and they would give me 40% off. I was given a final price and I said ok, but that they could not go over that amount.
When I went to pick up my care the bill was $100 over the amount I approved of. Turns out the tires were not on sale at the register but that I had to do a mail in rebate. I had specifically told the manager I was on a budget and he said not to worry, I would only need $432. That was a lie -- I needed much more -- a mail in rebate is not the same thing as a final bill to be paid at the register.
The other time they did unauthorized work and the bill was more than $250 above what I approved of. To get my car back I had to pay.
Bottom line ASK QUESTIONS and get everything in writing. What they tell you on the phone never holds true.
Note: I never ever had this type of trouble with Pep Boys in Upland, CA -- 7 years there an no complaints -- but the Fallbrook location really stinks and I will never go back.
Seriously TERRIBLE service! – Worst experience I've had at a mechanic... and I've got an old truck... I've been to A LOT of mechanics! Please if you care anything about your car DON'T GO HERE!!!!!! I took my truck there because it died in Topanga Canyon and Pep boys was the closest shop. When I didn't hear from them in a day about my truck I called to find out what was going on. I was told it was simply a bad battery and I could pick up the truck at any time. That evening after work my buddy drove me out there (2hrs in rush hr.) only to find out the car was actually not running yet and that they'd forgotten to call me. Three days later I called to see what was happening with my car and they still hadn't diagnosed it yet. The next day they called to tell me they'd lost the key. Since that was the ONLY key they had to get another key made. After 5 days they finally had the key made but it took them another 3 days to diagnose the car. I was told because of the trouble they'd only charge me $70 for labor. When I went to pick up the truck they'd charged me $240 for labor and I was told I'd have to wait 3 days till the manager was in. When I called him he first blamed me for how long everything took because I only had one set of keys (seriously what kind of mechanic loses your keys!?!?!) then told me it he said he'd only charge me $70 for the diagnosis (which is totally inaccurate). On top of all of this the car stop running two days after I got it back from them. I took it to another shop and it was the same problem I supposedly got fixed at Pep Boys! I'll say it again - Please if you care anything about your car DON'T GO HERE
Bottom Line Service – My car needed new bolts for my steering column and the left front spring raised for tire clearance. I was quoted at $447 for the job. Then they said they couldn't do the job without replacing the boots on the power steering bringing the total to $967. Then the manager called me up and said it needed some other random part bringing the total to $1700. I just took the car and had a friend fix it for $200 as well as put in a new radiator for $200 bringing my total to $400, which would have cost $3000 at Pep Boys.
Go to an independent mechanic that will do the job for 25% the cost of Pep Boys. I also lost two wireless mice($25 value). The loss doesn't matter, but the fact the repair guys stole something so cheap frustrates me. I'm lucky I didn't leave my iPod in the glove compartment like the last guy.
Worst Pep boys store ever – I got my car repair at this shop but afte a month of service the car had the same problem again. I went servie to a nearby location to my home who told me that I have to go to the same store. I went back to the services of the store where I had done the repair to get it fixed again but they said they don't have time that weekend and I should come on a weekday. I told them I work and can't come during weekdays so they agreed to take a look and I left my car on Saturday morning.
I was expecting the call from the store but no body called. Finally I called on Sunday noon time and they said somebdody will call me to update me about the cars condition and what is wrong with the repair they had done earlier.
I did not get any call back until 5PM on sunday, so I decided to call them again as the store would close at 6PM. They kept me on hold for some time. I decided to go to their store with the help of a friend who was kind enough to drop me at short notice. I reached the store at 5:30 PM and directly went to Mr. Angel who was covering for Martin who was the original person who asked me to leave the car. Mr. Angel said to me that they had no time to look at the car and I would have to come next time. I was shocked with this attitude and carleless answer. They could have called me earlier that I better come next time. They waited until the shop would close. Had I not gone personally my car would have been locked and I would have not been able to go to work on Monday.
This is the worst experience with the automobile repair I ever had. They are unprofessional and irresponsible.
Think thrice before you go for repair at this pep boys.
Store Manager Martin saves the day due to lack of employees – Last month we had our 2004 Toyota serviced at Pep Boys. We had new rear brakes , oil change and check fluids done. We took our car there this morning at 8:30 and told the lady(Maria) at the desk that something was wrong with the brakes and also the engine lite had come on at the same time. The car was there all day. To make the story short we were really upset that they kept our car all day we picked it up at 6:00pm. The store manager Martin was polite enough to have the car finished by six. There was air in the lines which caused the car to have problems. Martin had the problem fixed and we picked up our car. Today they were very short on mechanics so we really can't blame anyone for that. We t hank Martin for solving our problem.
