JACKED at WAX n FACTS! – Over the month of November I was in contact with WAX N FACTS in Atlanta, Georgia via e-mail regarding the sale of some of my old vinyl records. I made a list and e-mailed it to them and asked if they would be interested. They eventually sent the list back checking off 53 albums on the list that they wanted to see. I understood that any offer would be contingent on the condition of the albums. I cleaned and alphabetized them before taking them in. They were in a box. The two gentlemen took them out and they each sat on what appeared to be crates behind the counter and went through them.
My friend and I stood on the other side of the counter and tried to see as best that we could while this went on. After about 20 minutes or so they place two stacks on the counter. One stack of the ones they did not want and a stack of about 16 they made ridiculous offer of $2.50 each. At that point I decided to just take them all back. Once outside I stopped and counted them and found 2 missing. To make sure I was not jumping to conclusions I went through the box again and checked them off using my list.
At this time I immediately went back inside and called this to their attention and of course they denied having them or ever seeing them. My friend also went back and confronted them, but to no avail. So I cannot prove any of this except that I know what I had and that they STOLE 2 of my albums. I know I took 53 in and came out with 51. I checked them by the list when I assembled them to carry them over there. I checked my list when I cleaned each one and I checked my list and placed them in alphabetical order before I went over there. So be clear, I know what was in that box.
So my advice to anyone that goes there is; DONOT let your property out of your site. DO work from the counter. DO have a list and check off each one as you hand them over. DO check your lift before you leave the premises. DO take a friend as back up.
So my advice is to be careful when trying to selling your prized possessions……
Even the SO CALLED professionals cannot be trusted at times.
It's All In The Name – Located in Little Five Points, Wax N Facts is a record store done the right way. Since records’ resurgence into the realm of cool, hundreds of cheesy and artificial record stores across the nation have popped up. Refreshingly, Wax N Facts focuses on what’s most important – the wax. Note that the small store is cluttered and slightly difficult to navigate. If you are looking for a specific record, you may have difficulty finding it there but the prices are a very reasonable and there are abandoned gems saturated through out the entire store. Saturday morning spent digging through the crates at Wax N Facts are one of the best ways to spend your time in the city.
Thousands and Thousands of Used Records in L5P – This Little Five legend has been selling new and vintage vinyl for decades to audiophiles young and old. The joint is set up like a classic used record store, with rickety crates housing wax in alphabetical order separated by genre. The staff is happy to help hunt down what you're looking for - and the prices for used records are remarkably fair. New records are found in the front of the store near the register, and those prices can be a bit steep. Popular records in most people's collections (Dylan, The Beatles, The Stones, etc.) are usually very scarce - though the chance of finding an obscure punk record from the 80s is higher here than most other stores.
Great selection but stone-age business... – Been in Atl. forever, great selection of used music but still firmly rooted in the 80's with NO website and NO phone or mail sales! I asked as nicely as I could if they could take major plastic and ship an LP but no dice, their market is walk-ins only. Hard to believe in this day and age...
Super place if you live nearby, basically worthless if you don't!
THE TRUE L5P LANDMARK – ONCE UPON A TIME ...WAY BACK IN THE DAYS ...
LATE 80'S...THIS ALANTA ICON WAS OF A LEGENDARY STATUS FOR US YOUNG PUPS...
AND WE WERE HAILING FROM METRO ATLANTA OUTSKIRTS LIKE DULUTH,NORCROSS,CHAMBLEE,DUNWOODY, DULUTH,LAWRENCEVILLE...BASICALLY HICKSVILLE B.F.E. MAN...BUT THE REPUTATION OF WAX SPREAD FOR MILES AND MILES...AND IF YOU WERE SERIOUSLY GETTIN' INTO PUNK OR "ALTERNATIVE" TUNAGE VIA 1987-1990...ISH ...YOU FOUND THE WIDEST VARIETY FOR THE BUCK! I'M HONESTLY SHOCKED THAT THIS BEACON OF MAINSTREAM RESISTANCE HAS'NT BEEN GOBBLED UP BY THE YUPPIE OPPURTUNISTS THAT DESTROYED THE ORIGINAL COMMUNITY WAY BACK WHEN JUNKMAN'S DAUGHTER WAS GOBBLED UP BY PRINCESS PAMELA'S...IF YOU WANT QUALITY EVEN MINT VINYL...YOU'LL MORE THAN LIKELY FIND IT HERE!
Rummage through heaps of used discs and vinyl at this Atlanta treasure. – The Scene
Better than your grandparents' attic, this Little Five Points landmark is musty, disordered and crammed with musical gems. The organization makes finding specific albums a challenge, but the staff can usually point you in the right direction and knows what is and isn't in the store. The staff also knows music as well as anyone in town, so make time to get your burning questions answered.
There are thousands of new and used LPs, compact discs and cassette tapes, but it's the rows of vinyl that dominate the store. Wax N Facts carries all genres, but specializes in rhythm and blues, progressive and gothic. The selection of new CDs is modest, the assortment of used discs far more impressive.
Not as charming as when I was younger – Over a decade ago, I was in this shop weekly, prowling through vinyl and finding great things. Wax N Facts hasn't changed much since then, except perhaps they're selling fewer weird imports than they once did. Maybe the store is hampered by its size: until they can clear out some of this vinyl, they won't have room to expand their CDs, and some of this vinyl will never sell. The L5P neighborhood has lost much of its charm and I actively dislike going, but that's probably just me being old.
Wise Guys – Generally the term "wise guy" would come off as rather facetious, but in this case, it is meant as nothing but a genuine compliment. The guys who've been there since 1975 (?) are amazing ... they've been able to tell me immediately whether an album i had been searching for was in their collection of several thousand records and whether it's still even in print. If they don't have it, and know where you can get it, they're always more than happy to point you in the right direction. It's true they don't even own a computer, they won't be able to look up what you're searching for on "their system", but they are a goldmine of obscure and worthwhile information. Perhaps they've not got the "friendliest" of staffs (but compared to the majority of L5P, these guys are angelic). Their vinyl selection is awe inspiring. They come highly recommended.
Lots of vinyl – Looking for vinyl? Can't find an oldie but goodie? This is the place to look. Staff is familiar with the inventory, so, ask for help. Also a good place to trade or sell vinyl. They have cd's as well, both new and used. However, the vinyl is dominate here.
Hot Wax – Okay, so there's nothing particularly 'hot' about this store, but it is a pretty solid little music shop. I field the employees here to be generally friendlier than at some other indie record stores in the area and the selection is pretty good. Love browsing the used vinyl section -- always find something I've been looking for for a while.
