The Old South still lives on with country ham and red eye gravy! Leave the calorie counting at home.

Based on my visit on Sept 5, 2012 I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN & HATE TO THINK THIS PLACE IS REPRESENTATIVE OF ATLANTA'S HOSPITALITY OR SOUTHERN COOKING to anyone visiting our city!!!!!

Over priced, terrible food & even worse service! We had an awful rude little woman for a waitress who added insult to injury by giving you a guest check to write your own. Since 11:30 ordered lunch of Fried Steak, Rice-n-Gravy, Mac-cheese. Steak was tiny piece of meat over-fried to the point of flying off the plate when you cut it with knife, what tasted like jar gravy over institutional rice & Mac-cheese that was inedible all a ridiculous price! So I sent it back. Once again I was made to write my own order. So I tried a bacon biscuit & some cheese grits, which still came out to be almost as much other order. The bacon was extra, extra, extra crispy like fried twice (yuck!) which I pulled off & didn't eat and also received gritty undercooked grits that the cheese was not even melted in (yuck!). I can say the actual biscut was good as was the coffee. The lady who took my money was not friendly & never asked me how everything was. Then I had to go outside & around the other end of the building to go to the restroom. Good thing it wasn't raining!

great memories..naneyman – We use to go when I was in Atlanta visiting airline friends, that was in the 60's, Saw it on Diners and Dives the other day..what great memories. Live out in Lake Tahoe now but get back there once in a while. Can't wait to get those pork chops and grits.

indulgence – I visited this place a couple of times and one of the reasons why I keep coming back is the quality of their food.. Everything tasted really good.

Awesome breakfast place – Great hidden Atlanta breakfast spot. Right in the heart of midtown, it's as Southern as you can get. Their biscuits and gravy are unbelievable. Service is friendly, but does get really packed during the weekend. Must eat at if visiting Atlanta.

Great food. Horrible service with a stoned waitress. – I was in on Saturday, Jan 23, 2010 and sat at the counter. I thought I would have a lovely greasy spoon breakfast experience with my boyfriend at one of my fav breakfast places. I was in for a surprise.

It wasn't very busy in the restaurant and my waitress--well to say the least--she appeared to be high as a kite. I have never seen her there before. She looked hungover or doped up on drugs because the reactions she had towards me and my boyfriend as we ordered breakfast were unusual to say the least. She was jittery and hyperactive, as well as pretty loud. Her eyes said it all. She was all over the place and seemed very overwhelmed. The place was not as busy as it usually is on a Saturday morning when I've gone in the past, so I'm not sure why she was so dazed and confused. She was very unattentive and another waitress actually kept our coffee cups filled.

Other than the doped up waitress that served us, everything else was okay. The food was good. I got the super skillet omelet which is always delicious and my boyfriend got a waffle and link sausage.

Whoever this new chick is that appears to be strung out needs to go. Needless to say, when we come back for another breakfast, if we sit in her section (if she's actually still working there), we will be getting up and moving to another table.

Breakfast – I ordered the egg platter which came with bacon & grits & I added hotcakes.

The bacon was quite greasy. I tried my husband's sausage which we both agreed was not well seasoned and our eggs were dry.

The grits & coffee were good.

Our final assessment was that our waitress, which was an elderly woman, was a bit pushy and not as attentive to our table. We sat for quite a while waiting for her to ask if we needed out drinks refilled. When I asked to have my syrup heated, she quickly told me, WE DON'T DO THAT" and just walked off.

If a microwave was not accessible, I would have settled for a glass of hot water where I could have placed my syrup packet in the glass just to heat it up a bit. But she didn't try to help with a simple solution to a request.

When she sat our plates down, she came so close to my face, she almost hit me with the plate. She didn't apologize. Maybe she was just zoned out and had no clue. But I sure did.

We will not return but thanks for the experience. We are still searching for great breakfast restaurants in Atlanta. Our quest will continue on.

The home of Southern Breakfasts! – Great Southern food - breakfast and brunch, in a great 50s style decor restaurant. Egg breakfasts, grits, red eye gravy, biscuits and signature pork chops! Its a really fun place to meet up - and its really close to everything - Georgia Tech, Atlantic Station, Midtown.. - so its really really popular!!

OH YEA!!!! – Being known as 'king of breakfast' among my friends, they expect me to point them in the right direction.

Let me start by saying The Silver Skillet is ground zero!

This has got to be the most real food I've had in some time. Nothing faddy, nothing put on--no salsa, bean sprouts or tofu here. This is where one goes to get back in touch with their inner self. The good old days when men were men and women were women--The food is outstanding, service fast and friendly and the 50s atmosphere is unique to this 50s diner.

You couldn't reproduce this anywhere else than at The Silver Skillet.

Yet again, I've found the perfect breakfast spot. Hail to the King!!

A great place!! – recently saw this place on my favorite tv show-"Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" on the food network--it showed off this place so much that I had to come see for myself. This is a one of kind find--a 50s diner that actually began in the 50s. Since 1956!! in Atlanta!! rare indeed in these days of chain restaurants. The owners were both working when I stopped in Saturday to a line out the door. This is a popular spot!! Now I can see why. The food is just like the show said--Fantastic--the service, atmosphere-just the best. I'm glad no one has made this a chain- it just wouldn't be the same. The owner, Teresa was ready with a smile and a Good Morning!! Not easy to find these days. I just can't say enough other than I WILL BE BACK!!!

a true experience – saw it on Diners, drive-ins and dives last week--looked like someplace I needed to go.

What a trip! a true 50s diner with all the right stuff-good atmosphere, friendly service and of course, good food. After hearing that this place has been here since 1956 I can see why.

Fantastic place--I HIGHLY recommend you try it!
