Yummy food, Great Valet, Good Service, Great Date – I loved the Houstons on Windy Hill. I have been there a few times, and I must say they are consistent. The valets are great, better than the norm. The food is good, and fast. The dessert is to die for. The staff always seems chipper, without trying too hard. Love-it. Food not so badly priced.
Great spot to share a bottle of wine and appetizers with friends – Last night was my first visit to Houston's and I would definitely return. My girlfriends and I made an post-work pitstop here, shared a bottle of wine with the spinach and salmon appetizers. The wine list is fairly extensive, the food was tasty and the ambience was relaxed and welcoming. Of special note, I highly recommend the Apple Cobbler dessert!!! I am typically a chocolate dessert kind of gal, but this is sweet & savory, warm & cold (ice cream) and entirely divine.
Roomy banquettes and hefty portions typify this polished American grill that's popular for business deals and special occasions. – In Short
Burnished brass and stained wood complement roughly mortared brick and the occasional plant. Amid ubiquitous earth tones, corporate types and small parties (celebrating or simply living large) occupy deep booths done up in fine upholstery and lit from above by pin spotlights. Burgers, prime rib and steaks are the specialties of the house, but the menu also includes salmon, salads, pork chops and roasted chicken.
traptrap – This store has more student server feels than other location.
"Giving the distinct impression that they thought they were working in a much higher-end establishment (although they clearly lacked the skills or experience to do so). ",,,someone said ,,,,
and noticed something smelled,,,might be carpet or wood table,,,, not sure.
Wooden & churlish service at a high price point – I have been to this particular Houston's twice, spending $50 a head for myself and others. In both cases the staff were wooden and condescending in tone, giving the distinct impression that they thought they were working in a much higher-end establishment (although they clearly lacked the skills or experience to do so).
The ultimate insult was when, at my last $50-a-head jaunt, I asked the server to have my plate boxed; she returned with the boxes and left them for me to scrape my plate into them. Amazing! Should I request a horsefeed bag of oats as well?
It is clear that the service is scripted to a severe point and talking with a staffer is much like conversing with a customer service rep over the phone: "have I provided you with excellent service today?" after receiving dutifully poor care. I suspect the staff thinks that their poor service is acceptable because it is arguably better, for example, than the local $6 a plate Waffle House. Sigh.
If you can afford to spend this kind of money on an evening out, trust me, you can find much, much better. The food is decidedly good; but the service will leave you needing a drink or two.
Also-- this is a bad spot for romantic or even platonic quiet dining. Between kids, the service level, and the hotel crowd, it is loud and screams "high end chain restaurant" (aren't "high end" and "chain restaurant" mutually exclusive?) the moment you walk through the door.
Avoid Houstons on Power's Ferry/Windy Hill. – Okay, once I was there and they charged my credit card for the table next to me; then there was the time when my boyfriend and I waited for over an hour for a table -because they forgot about us...... oh yeah, they did try to make up for it by offering us some mediocre salmon dip... my point is, I love Houston's - however this particular one is below par. Avoid the Houston's on Power's Ferry/Windy Hill.
Always Solid – From the service to the food and drink, Houston's is always pretty good. They actually have the best tasting veggie burger made. The ribs are great too. The atmosphere is chill and the servers are always attentive. In my opinion, one of the best national chains.
RELIABLE national chain steakhouse!! – Okay, I've been in Houston's in NY, Boston, DC and now Atlanta. DEPENDABLE, rock solid DELICIOUS FOOD! Any steak, perfect. (My fave: Hawaiian ribeye, hands down.) Reasonably priced wines -all servers can make excellent pairings for you. Spinach dip-yum! Parmesan toast-finger licking good! The coleslaw is innovative and fresh. Any fish is surprisingly great (for a steakhouse). The chicken is also good. Wasn't a fan of the ribs (I think it's the sauce) but it's fine - just not the type of bbq sauce I like (I like it more brown sugary). Still have room-try any dessert. The nut brownie HEAVENLY, the key lime pie is good (though I don't like limes), the banana cream pie (when in season) is HEAVENLY. It's a fun, friendly place. Nice to take your parents but also impressive for a first date!
A New Favorite Restaurant – My husband and I just "happened upon" this restaurant. I am so glad we did! The spinach dip was really good. My husband's cole slaw and fries were great, also, although he was less impressed with his chicken. My grilled ahi tuna salad was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth! The service was top notch. It was well worth the 30 minute wait on a Saturday night!
