I wrote the April 19 review expressing my disappointment with Onyx; however, the company went out of their way to resolve my negative experience, proving that they are, in fact, committed to providing good customer service. I tried unsuccessfully to remove my previous review, but since I could not, I wanted to explicitly recant it here.
They know computers, but they don't know customer service – I was extremely disappointed when Onyx charged me $150 to recover the data from a hard drive going bad. When I picked up my laptop they had removed the hard drive. I asked them to re-install it. They said they didn't recommend installing a bad hard drive because it might damage my laptop -- but they had just told me that my laptop was also going bad and wasn't worth repairing. I asked them to reinstall it, anyway; after all, it was an INTERNAL hard drive when I dropped it off for repair. Onyx refused to re-install my hard drive unless I paid them an additional labor charge. As if $150 was a bargain for simply recovering my data (and nothing else)? Onyx is actually very good at repairing computers. But they suck at customer service. I will never darken their door again.

I took my MacBook here after grabbing the screen and leaving a thumb size bruise on it.
Onyx replaces it for a little over $300.
Less than 18 months later the screen goes out. I decide to take it to the professionals at Mac. But they won't replace an after market part.
So reluctantly I take it back to Onyx thinking they will probably replace it for free or cut me a break. I was wrong. They wanted to charge me full price again which was a lot mrs than Mac was going to do it for ($200). The guy actually said that it wasn't their fault that a lightning strike could have caused a power surge that fried my screen...Sure. Nothing has ever gone wrong with my Mac but a bolt of lighting strikes it and breaks the one part that onyx installed.
If you want substandard parts for a higher price than the expert at Mac charge than this is the place for you. If thats not enough, you can count on rude employees.
Awesome and speedy computer service store!!!! – If you have a MAc or a P.C. that is not new, many stores including Apple dn't carry hardware for those older model computers. Onyx has it all at fair prices. They are experts. I updated my Computer there today. The service took less than 10 minutes!!!1 The store is visually awesome inside and out. They are pros!!!! Run don't walk!!
Great resource for Mac and PC – Being new to the states and using both Mac's and PC's, we were apprehensive in finding a company to help us get sorted out. My first experience with Onyx was for a service call to our flat and it went so well that we now use their shop services as well. The gentleman that came to our home was extremely polite, professional and competent. He resolved issues on my Mac, the children's machines and my husband's PC with an aplomb I've not seen before in a service company. Onyx service is spot on. Bravo!
18 Years Pro IT Experience... – I can easily and confidently vouch for Onyx Consulting and their level of professionalism. I'm an IT professional who takes Onyx along with me from job to job. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Yesterday I sat waiting on the phone with "a major backup software company" for what must easily be hours in the past for help with (a Major Backup Program).
Today I spent less than 30 minutes on the phone with Onyx who, within that short amount of time, exceeded the degree of clarity and accuracy of instruction I’ve received, cumulatively, from (the major backup program company) over that period.
THIS is just another reason why I can never fully express the full value of my business/partner relationship with the good folks at Onyx, the things they do for us – (consistently), their level of expertise and professionalism.

Best Networking Company in America – Onyx Consulting has been my vendor for almost 10 years. During that time, they have provided outstanding service- both from a knowledge and a customer service standpoint. They are honest, reliable, extremely knowledgeable, and very fairly priced. They are very well versed in both mac and pc platforms. They are always available and have fixed many issues after hours and on holidays. I would recommend Onyx to any customer, business or consumer.
What a GREAT place! – Going to the mall is something I absolutely dread and I have had hit or miss experiences with the Apple Stores. They sent me to Onyx for a hard drive upgrade and I had a very good experience. As it turned out, they have a couple locations and one is very close to my house in Decatur. The inside is surprisingly cool and looks more like a salon than a repair shop. An interesting Russian-American man was refreshingly candid with me in explaining my options and helping me to understand a few things I wasn't so clear on. Service was fast and friendly. One of the owners introduced himself and informed me of a charitable foundation they created where I can buy discounted Macs and the money goes to the rape crisis center. I like this company!
BEWARE OF ONYX – I HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH ONYX THEY R VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL THEY DON'T TAKE ANY KIND OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR WORK. I TOOK MY MAC BOOK PRO FOR WARRANTEE REPAIR, GOT IT BACK AND A MONTH ARE TWO LATER PICK UP MY LAPTOP AND SOME OF THE SCREWS FELL OUT FROM THE BOTTOM. TOOK MY MAC PRO BACK TO ONYX, EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. THEY DID NOT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING I HAD TO SAY. GIVING ME ALL KIND OF REASON THY IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT. WHEN IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT WHOEVER PUT MY MAC BACK TOGETHER DIDN'T PUT IN THE SCREWS PROPERLY. I CALL APPLE AND FILE A REPORT.THE OWNER CALL ME A PUNK, CALL THE POLICE AND TOLD ME TO GET THE HELL OUT OF IS BUSINESS, HE SAID I WAS TRESPASSING. I TOLD HIM "I AM GOING TO REPORT YOU AND I'M GOING ONLINE TO MAKE COMMENTS ON ALL THE SITES" HE SAID " IF YOU DO THAT I WILL MESS UP YOUR NAME, I WILL MAKE IT SO WHEN ANY ONE GOOGLE YOUR NAME ,ALL KIND OF THINGS WILL COME UP". HE WAS VERY CONDESCENDING AND DISRESPECTFUL. BUT CUSTOMERS BEWARE OF THESE PPL BECAUSE THEY FEEL THEY CAN USE YOUR INFO. ON FILE AGAINST YOU. BUT I WOULD LOVE FOR HIM TO TRY AND SEE HOW MUCH LONGER HE WOULD BE IN BUSINESS. I COULD GO ON BUT.........ANOTHER TIME.
This man returned 6 months after a repair with a laptop that had since been dropped and damaged. He claimed we caused the damage. He was informed that we will not bear responsibility for damages we did not cause. He started yelling and frightening customers. He was told to leave. The Police were called. It is all on video recording. This individual attempted to harm us with a fraudulent claim. Now he continues to attempt harm. If it continues, we will take legal action.
Say WHAT?! – Anyone in "the know" in Atlanta regards this company as honest almost to a fault. They have pulled my butt out of the fire more than once. The Apple store recommended me to them in the FIRST place for an older Mac I needed repaired and I'm extremely glad to know them now. I was made privy to information they didn't need to let me in on and it saved me a pretty good chunk of change. Anyone claiming these folks are "shady" is likely "shady" themselves. I highly recomend them.
