Dinner at Koko's Middle Eastern Restaurant-Van Nuys – We had dinner at Koko's yesterday evening. ALL middle eastern restaurants in Orange County and LA County pale in comparison! We had Hummus, Tehina and Babaganoush first, so very flavorful! Then we had the Chicofta, like a steak tartar, very good with pita bread. We had the House Salad, our taste buds were going crazy by now! Then came lamb cooked on skewers, it was like eating a filet, it just melted in your mouth. After that, we ordered a whole fish, a Bass - it was grilled, so very fresh, basted with lemon and spices. It was so tasty! Had some Armenian coffee and homemade Baklava for dessert - baklava was light, not overly sweet, could have had seconds and thirds, had to resist.. We were surpised how reasonable to bill was, they should charge more, it sure is worth it! You definitely get the best value for your money. I am going back to try more soon! The service was attentive and efficient. They made me feel at home. Nice family restaurant. Thank you Koko's, we are coming back very soon!
Chookoofta is the best! – i realy enjoy the service ,,the new owners are great ,,they are a picture of the most lovley family, which reflects how they act with the customers.
about the food i liked
i am confused which one i should start with ,,the chookoofta is the most amazing appetizer,,you can after u had a big fight eith your wife, and it is best place to invite your wife for some dessert to make up to her after that fight,,so every one should go to that place ..because if u were mad u got happy,,if u were happy u would be happier ,,,
the white chicken kebab with the garlic sauce is something u have to let every thing in ur hand and go and have it .
oooo my godddd and the frog legs ,,damn the most jexy and saucey plate u wish to have ..
trhe crunchy cheese borag..the taboole..tha fatoosh with the golden fried bread on the top of it..the shiny vegetarian grape leaves..grilled birds (quails)with lemon on the side my fav one hehehe...ay jan siroomem yar kez ,
Under New Ownership, Everyone must try it!! – My family and I have been going to Koko's Middle Eastern eversince they opened..eversince there first restaurant in i think it was North Hollywood with the cramped parking lot. Well there food is fabulous, its just very tasteful, and for the price good luck finding somewhere cheaper with the quality of food which you get. Anyway, there under new ownership and the family that took over is extremely hospitable. The previous owners wife was the main lady taking care of mostly everything. You could tell as soon as you walked into the restaurant if she was having a good day or a really f****d up day.. Sometimes she would have this look on her face as if she was going to slaughter you if you asked for a regular coke instead of a diet. Anyway, the food was always good. If your in the Valley or if your a middle eastern, Armenian, American or just someone who just wants to try something different Koko's Middle Eastern is the place you want to go. The new owners make you feel as if you were home. The service is very good, all of the appetizers are also really delicious. There chicken and garlic sauce is just to die for. I dont think they have Shawerma, but Zankou Chicken watch out! If you are a Zankou Chicken lover, then YOU MUST TRY KOKO'S. A++ FOOD.
Koko's Middle Eastern Restaurant – My uncle calls on Wednesday and says, "I want to take you and your wife out for dinner. I want to take you to an Armenian restaurant I know here that has terrific food." I tell him we're free tomorrow and he says that he'll call and take care of reservations.
I look this place up and see the reviews saying how the food is good but the service is terrible. I'm intrigued. Being Armenian myself, I'm familiar with the sometimes rough exterior of my people.
The next day, after driving an hour during rush hour to get to this place from Santa Monica, we pull into into the parking lot and see a sign saying "Closed: Private Party". I am bewildered. There are only three of us, usually not enough to shut down an entire restaurant.
I get out of the car and see my uncle. He is fuming. I ask him what is going on and he says that our reservation is null. He has already talked to the owner of the place, an Armenian-Armenian woman who is as stubborn and vile as her food is good. She shrugs off his questions with a "I didn't have your number so I couldn't call and tell you that we are having a private party."
"Of course you don't have my number," my uncle says. "Why would you? What I want to know is how you didn't know yesterday that you were having a private party of 50 people today!?" He tells her how his nephew and his wife are driving all this way because he vouched for this place and how she has wasted their entire night.
Her response is not an apology or an offer to come back another day for a free appetizer or some similar concessoin that an educated, cultured businesswoman might offer. It is, "Go somewhere else then." Then she turns her back on him and walks away, a stereotypical Armenian fob lowlife.
So you see, I can't really review the food, because I didn't have any. And I guess I never will cause I won't give business to a place run by such cariacatures. I guess I only have one thing to say to the owners and it's this: Perannit kaknem, eshegner!
One of the best middleastern food anywhere, customer service needs an overhaul! – I am from the middle-east so I know good middleastern food when I taste it!
I agree with the former reviewer completely. The quality and taste of the food is EXCELLENT but the service is surprisingly very rough and rather unfriendly. Customer service DOES COUNT!!
Former Waiter from Kokos Middle Eastern – We apologize for any inconvenience we caused. We love all of our customers at KOKOs Middle Eastern.
Great food, waiters not so friendly – There is no question the food is A1 in this place and a great value as well. For around $10 you will be so full. However, time and again, the people there are just too damn serious and they don't have a good customer service touch.
