This dark and lively Buckhead jewel will have you coming back again and again for their juicy steak and crispy mac and cheese
Hal's is the quintessential neighborhood spot. A second floor was added to accommodate those wanting to dine. Must go if in Buckhead.
Absolutely Perfect! – I have been in Atlanta for 5 years, and somehow have never heard of Hal's. My boyfriend took me there for Valentine's Day, and it could not have been more perfect. Besides being a little crowded, the atmosphere, from the lighting to the music, was great. Our server was amazing, and the filet was the best steak I have ever put in my mouth (with great mashed potatoes as well!). We will definitely be back at Hal's more often!
User review by wlsnkitty – The BEST steak in ATLANTA!!! Fabulous service!! We go at least once a week!!
My Favorite Restaurant – Hal's hands down has the best filet in the city! I have eaten at all of the famous steak restaurants in Atlanta, and Hal's filet is the best! The service at Hal's is also uncomparable, everyone from the hostess, the General Manager, the bartenders, Hal himself and the waiters are extremely attentive, but not overbearing! The ambience is neiborhood restaurant meets 5 star stak house, with live music, a lively crowd at the bar, and a plethera of choices on the menu as well as nightly specials to wet your appetite for New Orleans style cuisine. If you like great food, a great restaurant, great service, and don't mind paying for it, HAl's is for you! Hal's is one of the Jewel's of Atlanta!
Shouldn't be writing this review - But – Best kept secret in Atlanta - don't bother with Bones and Chops- best Filet and Rib Eye...period., I bring my clients there all the time who come to Atlanta and they can't believe they haven't been there before.Always call ahead for reservations for a good seat or do what we do is have cocktails ( bottles) and wait to be seated ( can take awile ) . It can be crowded so get there early. Used to have a great band there so you could "Bop while you chomp"
Best steak in Atlanta – Great bar with lots of action. esp. Wed happy hour. Very fun restaurant. Everyone raves about the filet. Personally Hal's NY Strip is better than I've eaten anywhere. Does Hal inject his steaks with butter?
Worth the Trip – If ever there were a prototypical steak house, this is the place. The restaurant's interior feels very much like a gentleman's club (not the strip club type) and the menu should appeal to the hearty pallate.
Steak is the reason to go to Hal's. Hal's prides itself on it's Filet Mignon, and rightly so. What is billed as a 12 oz. Filet arrives at your table properly cooked and looking larger than its billing. It is absolutely scrumptious.
Valet parking is available. Public transportation is a bit more difficult - catch the Buckhead Shuttle Bus (free!) from the Buckhead MARTA station. A short walk from the shuttle's loop to Hal's.
Best Steak in Town – Like another recent review stated, we eat out almost every night and haven't found a better filet.
Don't go there expecting a 'modern' looking restaurant but more of a neighborhood bar that treats you well and serves delicious food.
Not what I expected – I was disappointed in Hal's. I made reservations in advance for my fiancee's birthday...They put us in the middle of the smoking section. I asked the maitre d', he said, "If you don't make a special request for non-smoking, that's where we put you." They moved us to the smallest table in the place, next to the waiter's stand. We had 5 waiters on top of us the entire time. The oyster appetizer was delicious, but it came out so quickly I don't think it was ours. We ordered, and bang! it was on the table. The veal piccata was tough and salty. My fiancee's filet mignon was sub-par. We didn't even stay for dessert, we couldn't wait to leave.
We heard there was a live piano bar...more like a guy with a keyboard sitting near the bar. The place had zero ambiance. A big, expensive disappointment.
Old School Buckhead lets the good times roll at this classic Creole steak and seafood house. – The Scene
With its bright stucco facade and startling '80s signage, Hal's could easily be mistaken for a deluxe tanning salon. But don't let that deter you from visiting this insider favorite for big martinis, bigger steaks and exceptional service. Inside, the bourbon-cured, menthol-smoking, good times old guard crams the long, narrow bar. Mardi Gras posters, imitation gaslights and two strategically placed televisions highlight the comfortable, clubby dining room.
Everything goes better with butter at this excellent Creole-themed steak and seafood house. So down a couple of cholesterol pills and get ready for the delicious, simple butter sauce that graces a special of fried oysters and fresh chunks of lump crab. A similar sauce also appears under a perfectly cooked 12-ounce filet and again with a crispy, golden egg-battered snapper Franchese. Retro sides like creamed spinach and cheddar whipped potatoes are treated with utmost seriousness, and even something as plain-Jane as bread pudding shines in this temple to throwback fine dining.
STEAKMAN – Best steaks in the World. I eat out 7 nights a week. I just recently found out about Hal's now I eat there 3 nights a week. Hal is the coolest host in the city. Pano's restaurants are great, but Hal owns the best steaks in Atlanta.
