I think pizza is the thing to get here, as they have an unusual flakey, buttery crust. Cheese is plentiful, and this is a tasty pie.
Little Toni's....a Valley Icon – My family have been patrons of Little Toni's since I was a child, and I have been back several times over the years. The wait staff have always been kind, although it may be not be the best place to eat if you're in a hurry. This is place to enjoy good Italian food and linger with friends and family without anyone rushing you out of the restaurant.
Lately, I've been watching my carb intake, so when I went there with some out of town visitors, I ordered the grilled salmon....which was delicious. They also have steaks and other fare...but the pizza is excellent, as are the other traditional Italian selections.
The ambiance is perfect for date night too, with the soft lighting and charming deep cushiony seating and red checker table cloths. One waitress has been there since the beginning I think, and you'll know her right away....a sweet and sassy lady of about 65-70 I guess!
I LOVE Little Toni's and I've never encountered a bug in my salad as one customer complained, nor was I ever treated with anything other than warmth and respect.
The parking is challenged but there is plenty of place to park within a block's radius. I live in the neighborhood, so I just walk across the street!
I might just pay them a visit this weekend with my daughter and grandson. ;-)
Straight out of 1960s America – This place is like it was built in 1959 and the modern era never got in. The decor is red-and-white checker-print table cloths, deep red vinyl seats, and old paintings on the wall.
The food is classic Italian-American. Giant portions of spaghetti with red sauce, piping hot lasagna, and good, old-fashioned Italian sausage or meatballs.
Great stuff, and they're open insanely late.
Parking can be a little tricky sometimes, though.
Bug In My Salad. They Didn't Care – I would never do this unless i feel everyone needs to know.
I have been a customer for five years and used to call it my favorite
This past evening, I brought my friend here for her birthday.
I found a centipede sized bug with pinchers in my salad. I didn't want to cause a scene, so I brought the plate to my server (while other servers watched) and went back to my seat without saying a word.
The Server brought me a new salad, and said they threw the old salad in the garbage.
Cut to the end of our meal. She offered me free ice cream. I declined.
She dropped the bill, and there was everything charged as if there was not a bug in my salad.
I am a strong believer in 'kiss the customers butt' so they shut their mouth. I didn't want a free meal. I wanted something other than nothing.
As if they just did not care.
I demanded to see a manager, and 'he' was not there, i asked why they did nothing for me...as I am a customer and all i wanted was to feel like they cared. (ice cream was free with my course, anyways)
One of the Jr. Waitresses laughed at me when I immediately cursed her to go away. She asked me not to curse, to which i replied with more cursing and demanded her to walk away if she didn't like it. The OLD server telephoned the owner.... I walked away.
The OLD server came to my table and said "I told the owner how belligerent you were so he only gave you half off" (that would have been fine if she hadn't just called me belligerent, and ended it with....) "he also said if you don't pay it for us to call the police."
Of course this got me even more angry and explained to them that I would tell everyone I know what my experience was....
I paid my bill with one more comment "I find a bug in my food...you guys don't care .... and you treat me like I'M the @$$___???"
to which the old woman replied...(and this is an EXACT QUOTE) "THAT'S NOT EVEN AN INSIDE BUG. THAT'S AN OUTSIDE BUG. YOU BROUGHT IT IN WITH YOU"
I got mad because they didn't care about a bug in my salad.
and not only did they not care, but treated me like I was the bad guy.
I know a lot of people in the NOHO ARTS DISTRICT and I WILL NOT allow one person to not hear this story.
I am copying and pasting this....and sending it to everyone.
I'm also going to be calling the health department....all because i was not treated like a valued customer. This owner needs to immediately fire this woman who defended the restaurant, when she should have respected me and my party.
I'll go to a cooperate restaurant next time....at least they treat customers the way they're forced to....respectfully.
it's good – toni's is good pizza. not the best, but it gets points for being open so late. service is below average, but hey it's late, I guess they are tired.
Want Cheese Pizza like a pro, here it is! – I have a great experience eating there. The cheese pizza is the best in town! Also, they open late! The Waitress was friendly. I rather have a waitress who leaves you with you food and friend. Unlike other places--they might bother you every 10 minutes and expect a 30% tip!
Hands Down Best Pizza – Yes, I agree that the service isn't Patina or Wolfgang Puck, but seriously we would never go there expecting otherwise. The PIZZA IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST we've ever had (my husband is from Boston). I don't mind the waitresses and actually have a great rapport with them--they can be to the point, but I've never felt they were blatantly rude. We do prefer picking up to dining in, as the service can be a bit slow, but again, we expect that when we go in. Back to the pizza--the crust is thin, flaky, tastes fabulous; their sauce is a bit dark and tastes wonderful, and the pepperoni is thick-cut authentic pepperoni. None of it is out of a can. In fact, they sell their pizza sauce and salad dressing separately, and sometimes we get their's to use on a homemade pizza at home with Trader Joe's pizza dough. Their pizza is what we will miss most if/when we ever leave town...
Yummy pizza but service is not so yummy... – Little Toni's is a hole in the wall Italian spot in North Hollywood. The decor is a little outdated, however may give customers a nostalgic feel for old Italy (checkered red table cloths). It is very dim inside --probably good for a romantic setting --but can be a little too dark when you can't even see your food. It's very old school--just like the staff. Service isn't their best asset. The only waitresses I've seen are all old ladies. There have been times when we wanted to eat there for lunch but they are only open for dinner. The pizza is the only reason my boyfriend and I go here! It is absolutely delicious and HUGH portions. Their thin-crust pizza is one of the best I've ever tasted! Yummy Yummy pizza but not so yummy service!!!
Horrible service. medicore italian food. Great Pizza~ odd combo!!! – The only reason in the world to go here is the pizza, but order it with extra sauce because they are skimpy. Waitrresses are mostly rude, slow, Busboys are gangesters that do nothing.
If you place a phone order be prepared to be brow-beaten by a rude waitress. ( maybe not always but we've sure gotten the rudest phone service ever known) Spaghetti sauce is not so great, I cook better pasta at home. Meatballs are very BAD!!! Chicken marsela is descent.
Ice tea is really good.
come for the food (pizza) & don't expect to have anykind of customer service.
Editorial Review – NoHo institution since 1962, this neighborhood Italian eatery is known for its thin crust NY-style pizzas; menu also features classic spaghetti and the like.
