Not Real Cajun Food – Classic cajun/creole food is not so much hot but full bodied, with celery, bell pepper and onions. Roux is the base of most dishes and is cooked slowly. Big Easy was a disappointment. Battistella's New Orleans Kitchen in the Crabtree Inn is small and very very casual with only beer and wine available but the food is cooked by a chef who grew up in the ninth ward - DEEP in the heart of New Orleans and trained at several New Orleans restaurants. Try it - you'll discover just how cajun/creole food is supposed to taste!
Good Drinks - Food Not So Good – I work right next door and have tried three times to eat there (more than I would usually give) and both times have come up short. They are not cheap, that is for sure. The food is really not good. Most dishes are extremely salty!! The portions are small, with exception of their specialty sandwich. That is quite large but again, very salty. The service is ok - not the best.
Poor Customer Service, Food not so hot! – The Big Easy in Raleigh NC. A horrible choice for a meal or good times! Food is average, definitely not authentic Cajun! The worst part is the Poor Customer Service! From the time you get seated the process of continual let down begins. When I complained to the owner/manager as I left she said ?Sorry BUDDIE? I would Put The Big Easy on The Worst Restaurants and Bar list for Raleigh NC.
Fun as a bar, avoid the food – The Big Easy is a fun place to go on a Friday or Saturday night, but I would never make the mistake of wasting my money there for dinner again. Honestly, there is nothing else to say except that it sucked.
The prices aren't cheap and they were way too high for the quality of food they served.
The presentation was awful, portions were small, and seemed to made without any care or concern. Kind of like they just threw the food on the plate. Everything was just a little off.
Stick with the bar, but avoid the food.
That's my advice.
New Orleans atmosphere but lackluster food. – I?d been wanting to check out the Big Easy for a long time and apparently, so did a bunch of my compadres, so we went last Saturday night as a group. They did a great job with the atmosphere for this restaurant?I was disappointed in only the lack of Mardi Gras beads. They should give some out when you walk inside! My friends who had been to New Orleans before said that even the bathroom was appropriate as it screamed, ?mug me? with its location in a dark corridor between dining rooms. Really, though, the feel of the place was great but the food was rather underwhelming.
We started out with the Louisiana Pretzel, their biggest seller. It?s a fresh take on a crab dip appetizer by essentially putting the dip on top of the bread rather than in its own bowl. It was a tasty and well spiced. We also ordered a round of alligator bites for the table, as most of us hadn?t tried alligator before. The response ranged from ?good? to ?not as good as the ones at our wedding!? I found it a bit too chewy.
I went for the Taste of Louisiana meal, which offers gumbo, jambalaya, red beans & rice, and fried oysters. The smell of the dish was salivating but opinions were mixed from the half of us who ordered it. The presentation was definitely lacking, just three small white bowls with the oysters on the side. Our consensus was that it was served a bit lukewarm and the dishes weren?t spicy enough. I did love the oysters, though.
From other guests, I learned that the shrimp was overcooked and if you?re going to serve fried spinach, it should really be labeled as such on the menu. My drinks were pretty good; I heard rave reviews of their bloody marys, but the food just failed to deliver.
Best Bargain For The Buck – Went on a first date here and it was perfect. Can't beat this place on what you get for the price. Food, service, bar was good. Will go here again.
loved the whole experience – I went after work on friday to enjoy a beer and met some really great people that worked there. They were all friendly and helpful. I loved the whole atmosphere of the place. Very relaxed. The bartender suggested the preztel appetizer and it was really good. I also took home the shrimp appetizer and my husband loved it. For sure worth returning to!
Best Cajun since we left New Orleans – My husband and I are traveling this week and we are from New Orleans. My daughter suggested coming here over the weekend and it was surprisingly wonderful. The food was great. The soft pretzel & crab was great. the Creole sauce reminded me of back home. It was a very romantic dinner.
Great Food and Company – I travel very often but I will make sure when I end up in Raleigh I will be back at The Big Easy. Food was GREAT and the menu is huge. Service was good and I enjoyed the bartenders company. Live Jazz music was a Great touch!
Best Place In Raleigh for a Date – This is a great place to take someone out for dinner. The atmosphere is very condusive to a wonderful evening. Food was great and the service was fantastic!
