Reviews for Desert Flower Assisted Living

I came to Desert Flower cautious do to some prior unfortunate experiences with Assisted Living providers who did not take seriously enough the medical aspects of an Assisted Living license and business. In addition I found other places too preoccupied with the unessential things and not focused on customer service.

Since arriving at Desert Flower I have been pleasantly surprised at how very long the staff and residents have been here in what to me seems to be very supportive and genuine relationships of Care provider and patient. This is fundamental to those of us who need Assisted Living.

In contrast to other facilities I have seen the Caregivers here adequately staffed enough that the response time when I need one to come to my apartment is fairly quick and very cordial. Of course they do not drop everything for me when it's simply important but not urgent. Yet they readily come through on the essentials and the desires consistently.

I was happy to see that the Chef and Food Services Manager is picky about his meats, meaning the quality and wholesomeness is there. The food is home cooked style, which I prefer over the "spa" or "resort" style so many are promising yet seldom delivering on. Also, they have no problem giving you larger or smaller portions and will not charge you more simply because you are still hungry.

One of the undersold and very nice aspects of Desert Flower to me is the courtyard with large shady trees and a mellow relaxed feel. With an abundance of various styled comfortable seats surrounding the large melodious water fountain at the center, I have already had an occasion before or after meals to sit and just relax and calm myself down from the stress of the move and orientation to a new home.

While the residents have been genuinely friendly and courteous, as I am too, no one has pressed upon me any sort of demand, which is a problem in some facilities who "hold on to" troublesome residents that annoy and even harass other residents. Those facilities simply don't want to do the right thing and ask people to find a better home for themselves when they cause problems with people constantly.

So far I have not ran into that sort of problem here and with the longevity and experience of the staff I feel I can rest assured they are looking out for me and my needs. To be frank Desert Flower has helped me more in one week than my last place did in months, simply because Desert Flower actually delivers on the care it promises. I hope to make it my hope until I transition to what is better for me down the road. I recommend Desert Flower to anyone looking in the Scottsdale or East Valley area.

PS As a bonus my favorite hospital in the area, Scottsdale Healthcare is only a block away for either an Emergency or routine tests that my other Doctors order and Scottsdale Healthcare accepts my insurance making Desert Flower all the more attractive and comfortable.

Lastly, don't be fooled by other facilities that give a big song and dance about being "upscale", trendy or chic. The question I asked myself is do I want trendy or do I want care. It seems to me that Desert Flower has it's priorities straight and has emphasized service and care for it's residents over elusive profits that other companies try to squeeze out of operations budgets to the detriment of their clients paying the bills.

In other words, Desert Flower is full nearly all the time while others struggle to maintain an adequate occupancy, telling me that people are happy about getting the comforts that matter, like quality of care and genuine empathy which other places fail to have as a vision.

I give it five stars and I am a real critic and conservative with a wide range of experience in business and the housing industries, as well as medical providers. Yet as an extremely experienced patient I am comfortable enough to trust Desert Flower with my needs. I hope you consider doing the same.

My mother who has dementia lived at Desert Flower for 3 years and left in July 2012. The first year and half was fine then the nightmares began to happen. While my mother was in assisted living the facility had a hard time understanding that assisted living meant you were to assist the person living onsite. My mother fell and was on the floor for several hours and then ended up in the hospital. After she returned from 3 days in the hospital and 30 days in skilled nursing the appropriate personnel at Desert Flower forgot to inform the caregivers she was back and she fell the very next day trying to find her way to the dining room.

After I complained for months to the executive director of the facility that my mother was not being cared for the executive director locked me out of the facility. She did so by calling the Scottsdale police and had me served with a no trespassing order. Since I am my mother’s power of attorney and filled her pill boxes weekly my mother’s welfare was immediately compromised when I no longer was allowed in the facility. Therefore, I obtained legal counsel and had my mother removed from this nightmare facility. In addition, I have filed with all appropriate Arizona state agencies against Desert Flower. Hopefully no one else will ever receive such treatment from this facility that takes your money each month and then locks you out after you complain about their poor care giving services.

Best Assisted Living home for Mom and Dad!! – Right when I walked into Desert Flower Assisted Living I knew this was the place for mom and dad. I loved how warm and friendly the staff treated me and my parents, and knew they would have the best care money could buy. Since they've moved in it has been wonderful to see both of them gain so much independence. The wonderful staff has exceeded our expectations. If your thinking of placing your loved one in assisted living, Desert Flower is the only one to look at.
