Southern-style cooking and friendly service keep regulars coming back at this affordably priced breakfast and lunch spot. – In Short
Known for bountiful breakfasts and a menu full of country favorites, this popular chain uses a waffle recipe from Pennsylvania that has been handed down for generations. Variations include the "peanut butter 'n' banana" and caramel pecan toppings. The kitschy décor inspired by grandma's kitchen provides a warm and cozy atmosphere fr families chowing down on fruit-topped waffles, chicken fried steak and fresh-baked biscuits. Breakfast is served all day and lunch includes hearty sandwiches, big salads and a variety of soups.
No Country for Good Food – When I think of good "Country Cooking" certain things come to mind; fresh, wholesome, hearty, friendly, and most importantly GOOD! Unfortunately Country Waffles failed to delivered any of these.
The prices averaged about $8 so we were expecting something better than Denny's.
We were really anticipating a great breakfast.
My oldest boy's breakfast arrived about five minutes befor the rest of ours. A nice sized portion of fried steak smothered in gravy, golden crisp hashbrowns, fresh looking eggs and a side plate of biscuits with gravy. The meat was dry and the gravy tasteless. I'm pretty sure it is not made fresh.
My wifes crispy hashbrowns were mushy and under done. Both the bacon and sausage were luke warm and tased old, like they had been sitting around for a while.
I expect (especially from a WAFFLE house) for my waffle to be crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. I was dissapointed in what i received. Mushy, oily, pasty, flavorless are the only words to describe it. My eggs were OK but my bacon also tasted as though it had been sitting around for a while. It was cold and tough. The apples that came with the waffle tasted like canned apples ( though, honestly, I've had better from a can.)
My other son's pork chop breakfask was a joke of a meal. The "Pork chops" were two tiny (about one and a half inch diamiter by maybe a sixteenth of an in thich-SERIOUSLY!) little dried out pieces of over seasoned jerky. His country potatoes were a bland mass of starch devoid of spice, onion or pepper; You know? the stuff that make country potatoes wonderful. The scrambled eggs tasted like they were poured from a carton, again totaly flavorless.
I really wanted to enjoy this place but it was a huge let down.
Our bill totaled over $35 for the four meals, a milk and two coffees.
I'm sorry to say we won't be going back. There was just NO dining value here.
Over all a bad experience.
