Fly at my window, wrong amount on check, hesitant to give receipt – Pad thai was better than on Ventura blvd Thai restaurants and the place was full of Thai people eating. So we thought "must be authentic"
Thai salad is much better at Toi on Sunset, this one didn't have tofu, egg or shrimp chips on it, but you can order it with real shrimp.
a fly was buzzing at the window - the place is a bit on the dirty side.
The clincher was they gave me the bill with a higher price than on menu saying price went up, when I asked for a receipt, since i paid cash, they said it wasn't added up right ( they were right) and it was $9 more. I barely had enough cash to pay it, but still insisted on receipt - got one after 15 mins, but w/o the name of restaurant on it.
Makes me wonder if they are hiding something from the IRS or something, like not declare all their cash income.
Awesome Thai food, but parking... well... – I've been to a few thai restaurants and there are quite a few things that stand out about Sunshine. I love the Shrimp Tom Yum soup here. They use real lime, lemongrass, and lime leaves to soup while other restaurants use bottled lemon juice comprable to those you'd find at Costco. Also, I really like the spice catfish dish, but be mindful of the small chili's or ask the waiter/waitress to tone down the spiciness if the heat is too intense for you. The papaya salad is also quite good, containing shreded papaya and dried shrimp, so you get a unique sweet and somewhat salty blend of flavors.
You seat yourself at this restaurant although the waiters are nice and prompt. There is parking although Sunshine Thai seems to share the parking space with an automechanic's garage that takes in huge volumes of cars on certain days. There will be times when the parking area is so crowded that only a handful of cars have spaces. Street parking isn't too great either. Come for the food, but good luck with the parking.
Romantic Thai decor and unique house specials add charm and character to NoHo's Thai strip. – In Short
A spin-off of the original Hollywood location draws loyal area families and foodies. The sunny room washed with white and yellow walls, bright Thai silks and stuffed peacocks rocks gently to the beat of Thai pop tunes. Crowds clamor in for the famous golden fied fish on mango salad; other favorites are duck curry; seafood, lemongrass and chili "hurricane soup;" and Sunshine noodles with pork, shrimp, squid and mushrooms. Dessert specials like fried banana, coconut tapioca and jackfruit change daily.
Unbelievable! – This place, by far, serves the most authentic Thai dishes in L.A. When dining out, the food is the most important thing at any restaurant. Sunshine does not disappoint. Of courst there's pad thai and it's good, but there so many dishes and desserts here that you will not find at most Thai restaurants.
