best sushi in sac! – this is my favorite restaurant in sac! i live in NYC now and everytime i am home, this is one place that is a must!! the sushi is wonderful and so affordable as is their menu. i have yet to find a place like this in NYC, where all the sushi is not authentic and way overpriced! i have loved every dish at zen toro and crave it when i'm not in sac!!
Best Sushi in Town!!! Yum Yum...... – Yummy~~~Zen Toro has the best sushi in town, and I have been their customer since last year when I was referred by my friends. "Lemmon papper albcore" is the must have dish!!!! But if you want sushi dishes to arrive before meal, you definitely need to request it beforehand.
Zen Flop – Twice visited, twice burned. Told this was the best sushi in town, I'm now questioning the sanity of many I once admired for their good taste. We waited and waited on a very slow Monday night --one member of the group finished his non-sushi dish 60 minutes before the first sushi "appetizer" arrived. We finally gave up and left without eating after 100 minutes. Try the piano bar and restaurant two doors down, they've fed more than one dissatisfied and hungry Zen Toro customer.
Traditional Japanese food and fusion sushi lures the late-night crowds to midtown. – The Scene
Simple decor like an entryway bamboo plant encircled by scattered rocks and a curved fish tank in the back befits the casually dressed pre-party crowd. Bright lighting fills the sushi bar and cramped seating quarters, which afford little privacy in a room where people mostly try and keep to themselves. Servers respond quickly, but sometimes don't communicate with chefs regarding fresh fish recommendations.
The menu is dauntingly extensive and features everything from standard Japanese fare to house specialty rolls. The baked oyster appetizer is a creative mix of buffalo mozzarella garlic and pesto, but the fresh salmon sashimi stands out as the melt-in-your-mouth winner. The tuna lovers dream roll conjoins spicy tuna, avocado and cucumber topped with three different varieties of fresh catch. Chicken teriyaki is served sliced in a light sweet sauce that complements rather than overpowers.
Lobster roll...yummy – Sushi was very good. IF you like Mikuni's but with not as much of the sauces they put on it, then this is a great place.
Lobster roll is killer!
One block from Elements and the Wells Fago Pavillion
Rude Service – I was appalled. I went in a group to dine for lunch, and my food (a sushi roll) was accidentally served to one of the group members on his plate along with several groupings that he had ordered. After several minutes, I asked the server for my food, and she realized she had served my meal on my companion's plate, and asked for me to share what was on his plate after he had already eaten most of it. Upon seeing my disappointed reaction, she agreed to provide me with a new roll.
At that, the owner came over, removed what was left of my companion's meal, and reserved the remaining portion of what was originally intended for him. To make matters worse, I never received my meal.
I will never return to this place, nor could I ever recommend it to my friends.
Bad sushi – We went to Zen Toro after the Hyatt concierge told us to check it out. What a disappointment! The place is small, noisy. The service was not carefull - they forgot one of our orders. But mostly, the sushi just wasn't good. We tried basic things, like Salmon, Yellowtail, Sweet shrimp, and even Toro. They all tasted the same! The Toro was chewy. On a wall, we saw a newspaper clip showing the Hyatt and Zen Toro were some kind of business partners. No wonder the concierge recommended it, despite its poor quality sushi...
Zen Toro Sushi is Excellent! – Zen Toro is real sushi. Two sushi chefs prepare their masterpieces in a rich atmosphere of elegance. Delicious & unique rolls allow you to have enhanced flavor with every bite. Beautiful cut slices of fish for Nigiri. The restaurant has a personal relaxed feel about it. Best time to go is in the evening.
