Reviews for Central Park Deli Market

I have gone to this Deli for nigh two years. I have ever since had stomach problems and diarrhea. One day I decided to be sharp. Started watching each of the four random guys who work different days.

The nicest and cleanest is the white/thin latino.

The fat guy is very lazy in everything he does. I have seen him several times leave those wrapped hams sitting idle on the slicer machine while he talks and makes jokes instead of returning it to the refrigerator.

If you ever go there, observe where the mayonnaise and butter are kept. They leave them outside on room temperature instead of returning it to the refrigerator.

Look at the cutting board. They leave a dirty towel on it. That dirty towel is what they use to clean the cutting board. Next time they cut cheese, see where they put it. They put the cheese on that dirty cutting board with the dirty towel sitting next to YOUR cheese -- instead of placing the cheese on the paper/aluminum foil where they wrap your sandwish.

I wish a food inspector could go undercover to this place. If you ever felt stomach sick after buying sandwishes here, now you know why.

Update: Went another day to observe. I observed one of the random four cooks prepare a sandwish for another customer. After cutting the ham slices, he grabbed the big Boar's Head Ham product with both hands (used gloves) and put it on a plate and put it in the refrigerator. No wrappings. Food Safety requires you to wrap meat in plastic wrap before placing it back in the refrigerator.

Secondly, he did not change the gloves when he finished with the other customer's food. He proceed to take my meat with the same gloves. Food Safety requires a cook to take off the gloves, Throw them to the garbage, wash his hands thoroughly and to put on new gloves before preparing the next food. He touched a lot of things while he cooked my meal, including the spatula. There was no bread so he went downstairs to the basement. The entrance to the basement is outside the store. If you are used to going down those kind of stairs you know you have to put your hand on the sides to prevent falling down.

He returned with a bag of bread. Opened the bag, and ... touched the bread with the same unchanged gloves.

There's a lot of cross-contamination in this place. Those of you who read this who work or have worked for McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King or any other restaurant -- you know the Food Safety protocols. Would you eat at this place with what little I have shared here?

Update: Next time you go to this place to buy coffee, observe where the milk is. Do they open the refrigerator to serve you milk? Nope. There is a opened milk gallon on the sink, next to an UNOPENED milk gallon. Both in the sink. No ice. Now, I pity the person who drinks milk from the Unopened Milk gallon sometime in the afternoon/evening because by now that gallon has been outside the refrigerator for over 6-8 hours. Happy travel to the bathroom, hospital or ... graveyard.
