I, along with apparently everyone else writing a review, bought one of the discount packages from a guy off the street. I have purchased many groupons and discount packages, and have NEVER received this poor of service.
First of all, don't send out a package if you can't afford to lose a bit of money through marketing.
Second, I bought my package in May and hoped to have an appointment made in early June. I called the salon and was informed that I couldn't make an appointment until mid-August. I made the appointment since I had already purchased the package and couldn't return it.
The day of my appointment, I thankfully called Liz Russell salon. They had moved their location temporarily the week before! I had not received any notification call and would have gone to their old location if I hadn't called that morning. I was also informed that I could only get half of my package (haircut) during that appointment, and I would have to return for the other "spa" services.
So I get to the new location 5 minutes late since I had planned my travel time for the old location. I walk in, and there are three hairdressers working on three people already. I assume that one of them is close to being finished, which in fact two of the were. however, the two hairdressers that finished first, pack up because they have a "show".
I ended up waiting an hour and fifteen minutes to get a haircut, which I would have rescheduled but they make you pay in advance and I also couldn't wait another 3 months to get a haircut. The receptionist was nice and apologizing stating that she would talk to Liz, who was there the entire ordeal. I received no apology or notification from Liz before she abruptly left.
My hairdresser was nice and friendly, but I can barely tell that the ends of my hair were cut. No fixing my layers or anything.
Overall, terrible. Even if marketers mess up your package sales, that is no reason to be rude to customers who had no clue when buying the packages. Needless to say, I will not be returning to complete my package and pay another services fee + tips for below average service.
I purchased a $75 package at Liz Russell for a wash and cut. After my hair was washed and the stylist was brushing it, I noticed there were reddish/pinkish streaks throughout a portion of my hair. At first, the stylist tried to tell me the streaks were natural. I have very blonde hair and my hair has never been dyed red or pink. I was very upset and kept asking the stylist what could have caused this problem. She never gave me any explanation, but instead kept denying she had anything to do with these dyed pink streaks that were not there when i arrived. She did tell me, however, that if I kept washing my hair, the dye would likely come out. A second stylist explained to me that other customers had the same problem, which she believed happens when dye residue is left on a shampoo bottle, and the stylist touches the dye and accidentally washes it back into the hair. She too assured me that the dye would wash out, but told me to come back in if I could not remove the dye.
Unhappy, but unsure of what else to do, I returned home and washed my hair a few times. After seeing no improvement, I called the salon and made an appointment to come back in. I met with the owner, Liz, who failed to accept any responsibility for what happened. Instead of apologizing or offering solutions to help, Liz told me I was lying and that I had entered her salon with hair with dyed pink streaks. Liz refused to listen to anything I had to say, and eventually stormed out of the room after saying "I know what to do." Her solution was not to help fix my hair, but to call the police because I came into her store to attempt to fix a problem caused by her employee's carelessness. While I understand accidents like this can happen, I could not believe the rude and disrespectful way I was treated. However, after reading other reviews on the internet, such callous and non-responsive customer service appears to be the norm at Liz Russell. Very disappointed. Also, highly doubt anyone at the Plaza recommended this place as the reviewer below posted.
Was recommended here from concierge at the Plaza. Maribel was my colorist. She listened intently to what I wanted and had to do a color correction from previous improper color at another salon. I could not be happier Maribel is wonderful at color. I give her 5 stars.. so happy to find someone who really knows how to color hair. Try Maribel you will not be sorry. I will be going back on a regular basis.
Shame on you Liz Russell!
For about nine months now, I’ve been trying to refrain from exposing the truth about the Liz Russell Salon in NYC. Sorry Liz, I can’t hold back any longer and I believe it is my duty to let the world know how unethical and unprofessional you are.
To cut a long story short, my daughter and I paid $800 to get the Aveda Smooth Infusion Treatment at the Liz Russell Salon in NYC last December. What we got instead was an ordinary keratin treatment which costs a fraction of what the Aveda treatment costs. After making several unsuccessful attempts to contact the salon and trying to work this out, I filed a case against the salon in the Small Claims Court. Needless to say, I won the case and the salon was ordered by the court to refund me the entire amount I had spent. The salon had 30 days to comply with the Notice of Judgment. It’s been over six weeks and they have not complied yet. I called the salon several times, but Liz refused to return my calls. I even emailed her but got no response back. It’s obvious that she has no regard for the law and has no intention of sending me the payment. I also contacted Aveda but they weren’t too helpful either.
It’s appalling that people like this are allowed to stay in business!
wonderful service – I was warmly greeting by the front desk. I didn't know who was cutting my hair, but when the front desk said "Hannah is phenomenal" I immediately felt comfortable with the stylist who would be cutting my hair. I've always had trouble explaining what i wanted. Hannah listened patiently and did a wonderful job.
Another thing that stuck out big time for me was the professional atmosphere. I have often been in salons where the neighboring conversation was superficial or gossipy. However, at Liz Russell I experienced a mature and professional atmosphere. It was easy to get to from my work in midtown, and easy to get home on across town.
-worth the trip
Cheap Work, Stay away from Liz Russell Salon – I had such a bad experience there, the color done by Liz was awful, hard to believe it was done by a professional! I had to get it fix in another salon!!!!!!
they are also rude and arrogant, and certainly not the best way to deal with clients!
They will WASTE your time and money! – I don't even want to give a star. It was awful!!!!! They scheduled me a 9:00 clock appointment on Saturday. I was there at 8:45 with other guests waiting outside the salon in a freezing morning. No one show up till 9:28. And the only person showed up was a receptionist. They were very slow getting us ready. No one took my coat and asked me to change. Around 9:35 stylist started to show up and still looked sleepy and not ready to work. I had my make up appointment at 10 and engagement session at 12. They ruin all my morning and had wasted lots of money to cab around everywhere to get more time, because of their unporfessional service. I will not will not recommend anyone make early appointment with them. And my hair doesn't worth 135........ Awful!!! Painful!!! I hope the owner liz see this and do something.
When my job relocated to this area, I was looking for a new salon close by and decided to try Liz Russell. I love Aveda products and gave it a try. The first time I went in I just had a blowout and was happy with the results. I then decided to try Liz Russell for a haircut. When I called to schedule the appointment, I explained that I was new and asked who the receptionist would recommend. I ended up making an appointment with Chanel, who proceeded to give me one of the worst haircuts of my life. I was very disappointed. I did some research online and read about Madion. I decided to give the salon another try out of convenience and I am so glad I did. Madion is an amazing stylist, he listened to me and I walked out with an incredible haircut. Madion is very welcoming and I so enjoy going in to spend an hour with him to get my haircut. Madion is fantastic!!! So glad I went back!
Natalie Esfandiari is no longer working at liz russell!! – Unfortunately Natalie Esfandiari is no longer working at liz russell, she can be found on facebook/
Beware the witch at the front desk!! – I actually really liked this place, all the stylists were very friendly and my hair came out great but the girl at the front desk with the red hair is SO HORRIBLE that she just ruined my whole experience! As soon as I arrived she treated me with complete disrespect and was giving me dirty looks the whole time I was in the salon, she was also just VERY rude!!! Horrible horrible horrible woman!
