If you are not a Celebrity do not order a Cake. If you are not a Celebrity do not order a cake.

I ordered my cake in advance and paid for it in full. I scheduled a pick up for 1:00 Saturday, July 27,2008, when I got to the location at Fulton Street, I was told that my cake wasn't there. I asked where was the cake and why the cake wasn't there, I was told by the clerk. I don't know where the cake is and the driver isn't answering his phone. I traveled from New Jersey to pick-up my cake for a 3:00 event and didn't get the cake until 4:45. I requested a refund and was told I had to wait until Monday 7/28/08. (very poor customer service). I asked for a manager and was told the managers don't wish to speak to the 10 customers whom were upset over not getting their cakes on time. I will never order a cake again from Cakman Raven and have advised all my friends and business clients whom I have sent there as well. The workers kept calling the managers for help in the situation but the managers didn't care at all. Remember before you got to celebrity status the people who got you there.

maybe the best cake I've ever eaten. It's no secret that the red velvet cake at Cake Man is delicious. Give the pineapple-cream cheese cake a try too. Dangerously addictive. On the downside, I've never seen people take so long to perform a simple transaction, like buying 2 slices of cake for $12. Maybe it's a southern thing, but the people both in the line and at the register seem to do everything really slow. It's maddening.

A Good product soured by a consistently unpleasant buying experience. The Good news is that the cake is tasty, most times. The bad news is that nothing else about the Cake Man experience is good. The store may or may not have cake when you visit. It may or may not taste the same as the last time you purchased it. The store most certainly will NOT have anything other than Red Velvet cake despite having an ample menu of other cakes, pies and cupcakes. If you are hoping to improve your chances by calling and ordering a cake, don't waste your time, as the concept of customer service has not reached the Cake Man yet. Don't expect a prompt return phone call if you attempt to place an order by phone. Don't order a cake for delivery on a Monday as they do not deliver cakes on Monday, but don' t expect to find that information anywhere on their website or brochures. Despite having store hours from 9:00am -10:00 pm, don't expect cake until 12:00 noon. The only way you will be happy with the experience at Cake Man is if you have no expectations whatsoever.

The total experience is so inconsistent that when I need a sweet fix, I'd rather go to Junior's. Junior's is always stocked and they treat their customers with the respect a paying patron deserves. He must be doing so well that he can afford to turn customers away. I will now treat Cake Man and his business as an afterthought, the same way he treats his customers.

Best cake if you can get it.....or when it's fresh!. This place CAN make the best red velvet cake but......they never have any to sell. Your only allowed to buy two pieces if they have it.......they ask you to wait 45 minutes for the next delivery.....I just can't imagine being in buisness all these years and constantly running out of cake.....That's all they sell too!! .....and the last two times I bought the cake ($6) each....it was stale......

Great Cake, horrible service in every way!!. This bakery does make very good red velvet cake. And by my own admission, I frequent this place, but the service is HORRIBLE. I have tried to order a custom cake. I received a quote quickly, then every single email and call was ignored thereafter. I was told that Cakeman would be out of town, the kitchen would be slow, etc. This was an order I was trying to place 6 WEEKS in advance, so there shouldn't have been a problem. I was told by someone else that they had the same experience with a custom order cake. Also, they are not very good at meeting the demand for their cakes and baked goods. Aside from that, if you just so happen to be passing by, and they have cake ready, try it!!!

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. It is so hard for me to describe my level of frustration with this place. I've gone there several times to get cupcakes and it's pretty much a gamble. I live in New Jersey, so driving through Manhattan to get here can be irritating, but so is arriving somewhere, after calling numerous time to find out if there were even cake slices available, and there aren't any left. And then more foolishness happens.

My boyfriend and I are having a holiday party on the 12/8. Cakeman Raven's website says athat they need 48 hours advance notice for cakes. I began calling on 12/1, 7 days ahead of time. I called 10 times and NO ANSWER. I finally left a message with what I wanted to order and my contact info. I called again the next day, starting at 10am. After another 5 calls and NO ANSWER, I repeated my previous message. The next day, I send an email with my request in addition to several more failed attempts of phone calls and left ANOTHER message. I finally got someone on the phone today, after 4 days of calling and emails. Guess what she told me?! THEY'RE BOOKED! They can not accept any orders for Saturday. I'm done with them!!!

Delicious Red Velvet Cake, Horrible Service. I live in Westchester, but come into Brooklyn often. I love the red velvet cake at the Cakeman bakery, but I must say the service is horrible. I love the red velvet because there is never anything else available. I was so disappointed last weekend when I went and there was nothing left. How can you run a business, with no inventory. I cannot see how much longer can they stay in business if they continue this process. I drive into Brooklyn so that means I have to find a parking space, which is not an easy task. The Cakeman is not worth my time. No one answers the phone, so you cannot call in advance to see if there is any cake available. I know that they are there because the doors are open and they clearly ignore the phone. My recommendation is not to go out of your way for this cake. It is not worth the trip. I am very disappointed.

Wanted to FINALLY see for myself.. I recently went to the bakery after hearing for so long of his desserts either on TV and/or through friends that live in the city. They all conveyed that this was "the place" to get a "good" piece of cake. Let me start by saying tastewise the cake was "average", the icing was "great" b/c I love butter icing, the moisture of the cake was "good". The portions were "Very Good", as I had gotten 2 pieces which I was able to share with 2 other people. But I expected more zing as far as taste for coming all the way from New Jersey, this would be somewhere I would stop in if I were visiting friends in Brooklyn, I will not make a "special" trip as I had done for my birthday.

The prices have changed, a slice is now $6 instead of the $5 as I was quoted. Also I got there in the afternoon around 2 or 3 pm thinking I would avoid a crowd and get a good choice of cakes, the selection was VERY limited by the time I had arrived all they had was Red Velvet. I may give it one more shot but I will CALL first to find out what types of cakes their offering for the day, as I wanted to try another type as well. Also I recently saw him prepare a cake on a cooking show and learned a few tricks as to make a cake better. I expected WAY MORE, it reminded me of a local bakery that everyone that lives in Brooklyn frequents after a hard days work or weekend treat. Don't believe ALL THE HYPE, JUST SOME OF THE HYPE....Enjoy!

Not Good!!!???. I really don't see what everyone is raving about. I tried the cake because i kept hearing how good it was but it was not good! it was alright. I mean I guess If you like butter creme frosting then you would like this cake. It did not have the original creme cheese frosting it's supposed to have. Yuck! a waist of my 5 dollars.. I've had better.
