“Why doesn't he get a better location with more professional staff?”
“The cake was good.”
“It's no secret that the red velvet cake at Cake Man is delicious.”
“After reading their menu and expecting to order chocolate cake, only one type of cake was delivered--Red Velvet.”
“At $6 per slice, the wait, the horrible service, the lack of choice, and the similarity to a cake from the grocery aisle makes this a place that is not worth it.”
“The portions were "Very Good", as I had gotten 2 pieces which I was able to share with 2 other people.”
“Maybe it's a southern thing, but the people both in the line and at the register seem to do everything really slow.”
The Best Cake. All really good the coconut, pinapple, german chocolate, carrot cake, and lets not forget the red velvet cake which is always great. Lets think for a sec my people at $6.00 a slice he must be making a fourtune? and he does! I work there watching cake come and watch them go all throught the day. I begin to look forward to my check which I've been waiting for for over 30 days now which is absurd. Cake Man Raven told me I would be getting paid $10.00 an hour and I'll recieve my check every two weeks but sadly I've been waiting for over 30 days now, so next time you step into the shop remember your surpporting a lier, thieft, and just a jerk. What am I suppose to tell my kids sorry son its cereal for dinner?
Delicious cake. At $6 a slice, it is pretty expensive. But it is very rich and creamy. I tried the red velvet (without nuts) and the coconut (oddly green color cake). Both were equally good. There was limited seating upstairs but as they don't serve coffee or tea, you're pretty much limited to the water provided by the water cooler upstairs. The staff wasn't rude, they just didn't seem enthusiastic or cheery.
Great Food...so expect Long Lines.
I have to say by far that Cake Man Raven has the best cakes in NYC. I have tried red velvet and other specialties at other well known bakeries like, Make My Cake, Crumbs, and Lord's Bakery among others but by far his cakes are spectacular.
There is always a line at Cake Man Raven's store. This is because they do have a product that is in high demand, popular and delicious.
The neighborhood is fine. The area is right near Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn; by the Brooklyn Academy of Music as well as Atlantic Center Mall.
As far as the customer service that everyone is complaining about: Well I have to say, that I have never had a problem with the customer service. Before going to the store, its best you make up your mind about what you want. Slow orderers make for slow transactions. His menu can be viewed on his website. For special orders: Also, why would anyone want to chance it to pick a cake up at 1:00 for a party the same day at 2:00 or 3:00. (That's like going to pick up your wedding dress an hour before the actual wedding). Anything can go wrong and at that point you will have no alternative. The smart thing to do since there are numerous orders on any given day and the truck may need to make several trips back and forth to bring in the orders, is to have your cake delivered a day before you actually need it and pick it up. This will prevent you from spending the whole day in the store stressing over when your cake is coming as well as assure you that you will have everything in order for yor event. Is it that difficult to put a cake in your refridgerator for one night?? I think not!
great baked good, HORRIBLE SERVICE. I went in to order 4 slices of cake and I received the worst service ever! I guess cakeman raven is also serving attitude, eye rolls and people sucking their teeth o n the menu!! Im not sure what happened to the friendly young men who used to twork the counter, but the new females need to go!! they are giving him a bad name!!
good cake terrible service....too hollywood.
I have gone to cake man to get cake and the overall attitude of the staff is that they are doing you a favor by selling cake to you. I try to patronize african american establishments but this attitude makes you want to turn away. I will take my business to Lord's Bakery or Little Red Hens before I come back to this fiasco of a business!
P.S. Dont dare try to call to order a cake. The order dept closes at 7 but they hardly ever answer calls after 4 and their message box is full.
Cake man raven. As for us in london(across the pond) His red velvet cakes are the best in the world. I mean the stars can't be wrong. Let's celebrate black business across the globe.
Worst Customer Service Ever - Don't Accept Mediocrity!.
My saga began on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at which time I went to the bakery's website to get information on ordering a cake. As per the instructions I called the phone number given within the 7 day advance notice they needed. After numerous calls throughout the day without anyone picking up the phone I left a message. By Sunday mid-day I still had not recieved a call back. I decided to go to the store for some help, at which point I was told I only can order by calling the number (which no one was picking up). I gave an employee my information and was told she would give my information to the order department and someone would call me back. On Monday, still no call back. I called again and left messages. On Tuesday same story. I went to the store again and another employee gave me his information and told me to call back on Wednesday. Wednesday same story. I called spoke with employee and gave my information. Never heard from him or anybody from the order department. Finally on Thursday, after I repeatedly called and left messages I get a call back and was told no more orders being accepted. The other employee never gave my information and the they have 5 pages of people to call back.
In a tough economy why am I chasing a business to give them my hard earned money when they obviously don't want it. I suggest we show the Cake Man Raven what happens when you neglect your customers. Take your money somewhere else! I will!
Hair in My Cake. It's funny...because I had no idea that Cake Man Raven was not only known for red velvet cake, but for his poor customer service, lack of professionalism, and bad business practices until speaking with some colleagues today and reading the reviews of other patrons. This is probably because I've never really bought the cake on my own. I've just sampled cake from friends. But two weeks ago, I learned firsthand that Cake Man Raven is disgusting. As I ate the red velvet cake that my friend had at her birthday party...I felt some tension between the fork and the cake. When I stuck the fork back in the cake and attempted to reach towards my mouth, the fork got stuck once again. It was then that I realized that the fork was being hindered by several strands of hair that were baked into the cake and now wrapped around my fork. YUCK! I was disgusted to say the last. I immediately threw my slice of cake in the garbage. I didn't contact the Cake Man because I didn't buy the cake. But, I did let my friend know. From what I here, she probably won't get through to complain because they never answer the phone.
DON'T BUY HIS CAKES!!!!!. He doesnt pay his workers. Please take this into consideration before you give him service. Cakeman is indeed fakeman. This isnt just, I do pray for change in him.
